@themightyant I run a civil engineering company and have absorbed lots of costs the last few years, never passed increases on to my customers, and they appreciate that and will remain loyal.. As long as I make enough money to keep the lights on, I am good.
While its a completely different scale to MS/Sony I admit, the same principle could apply. It is easily possible, its just a different business model to price gouging.
@themightyant They could easily have absorbed these costs, they are not losing money. But they chose to pass it onto the consumer. Would it really be the end of the world if just once, a company absorbed these costs and didn't screw over their customers?
They recently announced a cheaper JPN model, are we subsidizing that now? It sure looks like it
@themightyant They are making record levels of profit, while gouging their customers even more. Its a terrible look no matter the mental gymnastics used to defend it
@get2sammyb yay! Cant wait for Sony and MS to shake me down even more than they already have the last few years, with obscene price rises in almost every facet of the hobby.
Using Bungie as an example, after yesterdays news. I have seen some people dispute Marathon cost 250m (400m+ with marketing) but I really don't see how they think that.
Bungie has almost 1000 employees in the very expensive area of Seattle, Washington and have been working on the game for over 6years. Just in wages alone that is an absolutely insane number.
I don't really think people appreciate how expensive these prestigious studios are, just to keep the lights on.
@CielloArc Doesn't sound like they were listening during GDC then, or you didn't speak to dev's.
Development is being powered by the unified xbox GDK across console and windows, means the code will work without any porting.
"One of the standout announcements for that idea was a new Unified Game Development Kit (GDK). This "devkit" basically bridges the gap between platforms, allowing developers to build a game for PC and automatically have a version ready for next-gen Xbox hardware. Also, the GDK is designed to maintain full compatibility with the current Xbox Series X|S, ensuring no player is left behind during this transition."
@Questionable_Duck Even Tom Warren has been calling him out. Madness that sites are reporting this an "news" but I have come to expect it to be honest. Nobody verifies anything anymore or even reads fully the articles they are quoting. Its fake news 24/7.
Just the most casual look for 30seconds at the thread linked in this story and you will find him saying things like "The 'native' Xbox SKU, that had an updated build target that developers were building games for, thats going away, or rather - theres no Xbox Helix build target, its just a UWP build"
UWP hasn't been a thing for games for 6-7years, and people think this guy knows anything. He is just a chancer who gets 99% of his "predictions" wrong, like the 2 examples already mentioned.
I wouldn't pay attention to SneakersSO. Over the weekend hes made a few totally false claims like all games on Helix will be UWP versions, despite UWP not being used for games for several years, they use GDK since like 2019. It's XVC packages for Xbox Series X|S games and MSIXVC packages for Microsoft Store PC games.
He also said there would be huge layoffs at xbox in January (there wasnt) and also said a few months ago that Helix was no longer happening.
Stop taking these chancers words as gospel. Could no exclusives happen? More than likely. But even a broken clock is correct twice a day
@themightyant the difference is xbox and Nintendo sell keys directly to the key websites, the PlayStation games on key sites are resold from console bundles etc, Sony do not sell keys directly. That is why there is so few Sony games available to buy that way
If it can play xbox one/series x games natively, emulate Xbox and 360 and play PC games from Steam etc like the leaks suggested, I would be interested at $1200 as it seems a fairly reasonable price when compared to comparable PC.
I have a PC but it's very old for games now and all i really.play on it is Ultima Online, so the proposition is certainly enticing on initial reveal. Can upgrade my PC and my Xbox for 1 price instead of 2
But I am waiting on a proper reveal and breakdown before I make any decisions on next gen purchasing. Happy with my switch 2 at the moment with the ps5 and series x collecting dust atm
250m budget for the game, studio purchase for 3.6billion for less peak concurrent than Highguard isn't a great start. The launch weekend numbers are very troubling for a studio with hundreds of employees
Hopefully they turn it round, have some great memories of Bungie games, but the early signs are abysmal.
@ElectricWizard Some people just cant help themselves, unfortunately. Who cares about the facts of the video the entire news article is about, lets be disingenuous to our readers!
Based on the specs he discusses in the video, the next Xbox PC thing sounds more than slightly more powerful than ps6. it seems quite a lot more powerful, but obviously at an extra cost.
-Much bigger SoC
-Much bigger GPU
-Better CPU
-Faster and more memory
Its good to see the manufacturers are finally seeing sense and releasing the consoles and not delaying - delaying would have been so dumb (for reasons I have previously discussed)
The player count seems to keep dropping since the start of the server slam, and not going up for the weekend, which is not a good sign of the games long term prospects. Seen a few articles about it now which must be concerning for Bungie and Sony
@nomither6 I mean Nintendo are not a great deal better than Sony or Microsoft (atleast they are not closing a bunch of studios, i guess, hardly a high bar) but as far the the console goes, I think it's brilliant. Performs really well and improves on the OG Switch in every way. Highly recommend
I cancelled my PS Plus about a year and a half ago, and since the switch 2 came out its been my main console, even for 3rd parties.
Words are cheap, start voting with your wallet people if you really want to see change.
This generation has been abysmal from Sony and Microsoft. Somehow Sony fans have shielded Sony from a lot of the flak Microsoft has copped this gen, when in reality, they have been just as bad the whole time.
Until people decide enough is enough, its only going to get worse and worse
Been saying this for the last few months on Push, delaying the PS6 will not mean a more advanced console, and all it will more than likely not mean a cheaper console, but a more expensive console than if they released it in 2027/2028. Prices are not coming down.
Who wants to buy 2027 tech in 2029-2030 for more than it would have cost to buy in 2027. Its stupid beyond belief
After 5 hours I would rate it a 5, Average. Obviously I have not finished the game (and have no intention to after what I have played so far) so the score could possibly go up, but by the same gesture, it could also go lower than 5 I suppose.
@Vaako007 Delaying the console wont make the specs any better. The APU in the PS6 has already been designed by Sony/AMD and production is due to start towards the end of the year/start of next year, this has been verified by various places like Moore's law etc. Delaying it will mean the consoles just sit in a warehouse until they are released. You will effectively be buying a 2027 console, in 2029/2030. Redesigning the console/APU would cost hundreds of millions of dollars and years of R&D
I have put in about 5 hours now over the weekend and its hard to argue with anything he says. I don't think I will bother to finish it, which is not like me at all, as its just so mediocre its hard to build up the encouragement to turn it back on when there is much better things I could be playing. I appreciate the swing, but sadly its just a big miss imo
Considering the APU will be the same if it releases in 2027, 2028, 2029 or 2030, and there is absolutely no guarantee RAM prices come down even a little bit, this seems like an incredibly stupid idea.
They are not going to spend hundreds of millions redesigning an APU that will already be set in stone, it would be profit suicide. And how often do prices come back down? Almost never!
Usually I don't agree with Jaffe, but this time he is spot on. I played this last night and its just so cheap and dull in almost every regard. The art style is so amateur looking I can't figure out what they were even aiming for. Reminds me of a straight to dvd movie
I don't blame the dev's, I blame Hulst and the rest of Sony management forcing them to make a game nobody wants or even asked for. That's before you even get into things like the abhorrent art style.
They make good games, why make them do this trash?
Hulst and the rest of them need to go before its too late, they are so out of touch with gaming trends and opinions its mind blowing to be honest.
@darylb24 cost could go either way, just as likely the prices stay high as they are to go down (prices very rarely go back down in any infustry) And while all console tech is somewhat out of date I agree, this would be even more out of date then usual. Never a good thing got a generation expected to last 7 or 8 years.
Delay it a year or 2, and its a year or 2 out of date before it's even launched, they are not going to redesign the APU. It makes zero sense, please don't do it
@SMJ you speak alot of sense from a consumer point of view, but alot of users on here are married to a Sony plastic box under their telly and won't even contemplate that there could be a better scenario for themselfs or the industry. Can't see the wood for the trees
