The only thing I have ever won from a contest happened years ago as a kid. I got my parents to buy me a multipack of Jaffa cakes from Costco and I won a PS1 with Croc 2, so this brings back some awesome childhood memories!
If its $1000, the only way I am interested is if it plays PC games as well, then I can save some money and not upgrade my PC and kill two birds with one stone.
If it just a bog standard console, I am not interested at that price
So what happens when prices dont come back down, as most people predict?
Are Sony going to release a 2027 console, in 2030, at an even higher price than it would have cost in 2027 (see ps5 /series x price increases as evidence)
What happens to the ps6 when prices continue to rise? It needs to be released ASAP or it will cost even more and be even more out of date
It doesn't look like *****, but its definitely not the direction I want the franchise to go in. After 2018 the franchise just seems to be on a bit of a downward trajectory
"Given the stage of our console cycle, our hardware sales strategy can be adjusted flexibly, and we intend to minimize the impact of the increased memory costs on this segment going forward by prioritizing monetization of the installed base to date"
Considering the cost involved, Marathon is a colossul failure and doubling down on that is probably the most insane thing I have heard this year. Marathon will never be profitable, and throwing more money at it will more than likely lead to the death of the entire studio.
Bungie used to be one of my favourite devs, its very sad what has happened, but entirely predictable
Break In is clearly the technical term Sony have assigned for further monetizing the current install base and shaking us all down for every penny we have.
"I honestly don’t know where the industry goes from me, but I also could have told you Spellcasters Chronicles would end up in this situation the moment it was announced.

Kind of a bold statement coming from the website who told everyone to "ignore the haters" about Concord, and more recently, Marathon

"Nishino would go on to explain how generative AI is being pushed internally at Sony, being used to automate repetitive workflows, improving productivity, and accelerating quality assurance. He then pointed to one tool being used - Mockingbird - which generates facial animations from captured performance data in substantially less time than required without the tech. Nishino pointed to Naughty Dog (The Last of Us) and San Diego Studio (MLB The Show 2026) as developers using the tool, including on released games."
Playstation are in fact using generative AI, mockingbird is gen ai, theres more information on Eurogamers article and many others if you want to read them and adjust this story, as it doesn't seem to be correct at all, when you state they are not using generative ai.
In your article you state: "Indeed, during his PlayStation-specific presentation, Nishino didn’t touch on anything resembling generative AI in the slightest." This is just not true at all.
@KundaliniRising333 you, me and a few others predicted alot of Playstations problems ages ago and everytime we spoke on it we just got attacked, called negative and xbots.
People couldn't understand we were worried about the trajectory of Playstation.
It wasn't hate, it was concern.
They really need to turn this ship around, as their reputation is in the gutter atm, but its not looking very good. I really hope they can get back their best, but I doubt it currently
People always mention Horizons sales but rarely mention that those numbers include the ps5 bundles where they were giving the game away for nothing and it was the only way you could get a ps5 at the time. Its nowhere near as popular as people make out.
They inflated the numbers after poor initial sales of HFW
@get2sammyb Welcome to 2026, where nothing is fact checked, who cares if its accurate, lets just post it anyway for engagement.
Blows my mind how far standards have fell.
I do appreciate that you added the additional context and scrutiny, its much better than most, but in my humble opinion, if an article needs that much context and scrutiny, its probably not worth writing in the first place. This company is best ignored.
Your sister site pure posted the same info without any additional context which is crazy to me, since everyone knows how flakey the numbers are, after they explained their methodology.
Like I said previously when this topic was on push last month, you would have to be unbelievably naive to think this game didn't have a 250million budget, considering the sheer size and scope of Bungie. 6-7years this game was in development and Bungie is a huge studio, with huge overheads in one of the most expensive cities in America.
It actually shocked me how many people didn't understand this and kept gaslighting people with far lower figures.
With marketing (Marathon was everywhere at launch) the total will be at least another 100m on top of the 250m.
Then you have the costs to keep producing content and running the online infrastructure, and the player numbers are already down by like 70% since its pretty terrible launch numbers.
The future looks bleak indeed and its a real shame as Bungie are a great developer who have unfortunately destroyed their own reputation for years due to the decisions they have made, and are basically insolvent
Kinda funny reading all the praise for the map, after so many were bad mouthing it on Push earlier today on the other article.
Not sure I will get to play it at launch, as I am still knee deep in Pokopia, but it sounds like its shaping up to be another fantastic game by Playground Games, who are one of the best in the business
We were told the same thing would happen at the start of this generation with Kraken, that file sizes would get smaller. And while it has obviously helped somewhat, file sizes have continued to explode throughout the generation with big games often coming in at 100gb+
@themightyant I run a civil engineering company and have absorbed lots of costs the last few years, never passed increases on to my customers, and they appreciate that and will remain loyal.. As long as I make enough money to keep the lights on, I am good.
While its a completely different scale to MS/Sony I admit, the same principle could apply. It is easily possible, its just a different business model to price gouging.
@themightyant They could easily have absorbed these costs, they are not losing money. But they chose to pass it onto the consumer. Would it really be the end of the world if just once, a company absorbed these costs and didn't screw over their customers?
They recently announced a cheaper JPN model, are we subsidizing that now? It sure looks like it
@themightyant They are making record levels of profit, while gouging their customers even more. Its a terrible look no matter the mental gymnastics used to defend it
@get2sammyb yay! Cant wait for Sony and MS to shake me down even more than they already have the last few years, with obscene price rises in almost every facet of the hobby.
Using Bungie as an example, after yesterdays news. I have seen some people dispute Marathon cost 250m (400m+ with marketing) but I really don't see how they think that.
Bungie has almost 1000 employees in the very expensive area of Seattle, Washington and have been working on the game for over 6years. Just in wages alone that is an absolutely insane number.
I don't really think people appreciate how expensive these prestigious studios are, just to keep the lights on.
