Update []:

Testing of the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection’s new PS5 patch confirms input lag has been reduced – but nowhere near enough.

In expert Nigel Woodall’s previous tests, he clocked the input lag in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 specifically at around ~108ms. With the new patch installed, that’s been reduced to ~91ms.

It’s not nothing, but with Xbox Series X at around ~51ms and even Switch 2 at ~73ms, there’s still ample room for improvement here.

Original Story: A new patch for the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is available on the PS5 and PS4 now, dramatically reducing input lag across all of the compilation’s games.

We’ll need to wait for professional testing to determine just how much of a difference it’s made to the ~100ms latency recorded at release, but our early impressions suggests the games definitely do feel snappier with the update installed.

The patch incudes all of the following fixes and improvements:

  • Input latency improvements across all games (PS4/PS5)
  • Improved audio buffer for online play
  • Fixed connection filter setting not working properly
  • Various fixes to the Fatality Timer option
  • Combos have been added to moves list for relevant titles
  • Fix for MK3 (Genesis) cheat menus not unlocking properly
  • Restored missing audio in 32X MKII
  • Additional improvements to MK4
  • Fixed issue that caused UMK3 to reboot after Scorpion fatality
  • General stability improvements for Genesis titles
  • Pause button hold time reduced by 50%
  • One-Button Fatalities added for all arcade titles
  • General stability updates to Music Player
  • Minor localization corrections
  • Some fixes to MK Trilogy Training Mode

This is obviously a quick response to the robust feedback developer Digital Eclipse has received, and should solve some of the more obvious issues players have been encountering.

However, as we reported earlier this week, many are dissatisfied with the AI in the included arcade titles, which remains true to the original experience but isn’t always all that entertaining due to the way it reads your inputs.

It’ll be interesting to see if the team responds to this and creates some alternative settings which tone down the overall difficulty in the games. Clearly not everyone is having a great time, as Sony has even been accepting refund requests.
