@Kevw2006 thanks for the additional information mate. But the streamers were saying they did not like last years MW2 as much as this years MW3? Why would that be if the last few COD have been designed specifically for streamers?
I still don't see how that can create such a chasm of disconnect to score it as low as gollum/redfall (2 games that were released unfinished and broken) but it at least helps explain it a little bit. Appreciate it
There seems to a very strange disconnect over this game. (And not the first game this year) I was watching stonemountain and a few other streamers play this the other night and he is really liking it, especially the zombies mode. And a few of the other streamers have commented this is the game last years MW2 should have been because of the movement and ttk is better. ( I don't play COD so I cannot confirm)
But then you read a review like this and you would think it was a gollum level of disaster
@Martsmall 100% mate. But none of it comes from me, the last COD I played was World At War. I just do not have the spare time to commit to them anymore
@TheCollector316 I'm not sure they will mind , as long as people subscribe to gamepass, they are making money. But i am sure Microsoft will be interested to see how it all pans out. I am sure they have smarter people than me monitoring it all and making their decisions.
Personally I don't care how they make their money, as I am a consumer and not a shareholder. That's how we should all be thinking
@UltimateOtaku91 that's not what the stats are saying, at all. You know the 25% down was physical sales only, as you commented on the article. And we know that physical sales % have been shrinking for years, every year.
Edit: You edited your comment but it still makes no sense as you are still trying to say it sold less physical, so that means people are leaving the game. When it does not mean that at all. You seem desperate to paint COD sales in a bad light, i wonder why?
Just last week Sony revealed they make hardly any revenue from physical sales as a % of total revenue.
@Titntin dont get me started on the old ball n chain (wife) i know how you feel! Just don't tell her I said that lol.
I know deep down you are platform agnostic mate as i have had some previous conversations with you, especially on pure, and read some of your brilliant insight into the industry. Your first message took me a little by suprise that's all.
But after your explanation I can perfectly see your reasoning was not one of malice
Going to be a difficult game away to Bournemouth as we have so many injuries. I wonder if Jim Ryan will be tuning in! Howay The Lads!
@Titntin it was Sony who identified their profits as a problem, and noted it will be difficult moving forwards, not me. It is one of the reasons for their recent restructuring and lowering the M&A budget by 20%. They did not do those things because they were happy with the profit margins, that is why they are cutting costs.
It's hard to see past the warrior when your first assumption was some 'whataboutery' towards MS , while simultaniously dismissing their current business strategy, when they were not even mentioned, and then defending Sonys.
I was discussing Sonys earnings call and what they have told investors, and included a quote from Sony themselfs.
Enjoy your day mate, I'm off out to watch the football, fingers crossed the toon win!
@ChrisDeku it's going to be interesting to see how it all pans out. I think the target is going to be difficult to reach, but you can't help but admire their ambition, and I wish them the best of luck.
@Titntin I didn't present it as a bad business move, I said profitability is Sonys current problem, which is effecting things like their M&A budget and their current restructuring. You can have a sucessful business strategy that still puts pressure on certain aspects of a business you know.
I was merely discussing the detail provided by Sony themselfs in their latest earning call. They are Sonys words not mine. Does everything have to boil down to Sony v MS for you?
@ChrisDeku @MrMagic yes but profits are down even compared to the first years of the ps5, as they are having to discount the console heavily to reach these numbers. That's what the earning call revealed.
Because of the lower profits, they actually cut their M&A budget by 20% for example, so you can see how profit has a big impact on a business, even in the short term
The problem Sony currently have is to reach these sales numbers they are having to put the Ps5 on sale. The aggressive promotions and pricing was the reason they gave for their poor profits in the last quarter and they predict profit margins will be difficult going forward. It's why they have been restructuring and increasing the prices of everything, as they are not really making much profit.
"Sony expects profitability for its latest console to deteriorate in the full year due to changes in promotions in certain geographic regions."
While Sony are currently hitting record revenues, the profit is actually down on previous years like 2019, 2020 and 2021. The devil is in the detail
@Logonogo pretty much anything would have been more accurate than the words they used, as 10 days is a lot, when comparing to 4 days, its more than double
All the publishers jumping headfirst and doubling down on Live service games are going to be recording huge financial losses soon, which in turn will lead to more lay off's within the industry.
Its like they wondered through the live service graveyard but forgot to open their eyes
It means the game took about ten days to pass the milestone, a little longer than God of War Ragnarok which achieved the same feat in just four days.
I am not sure a little longer accurately describes the difference between 4 days and 10 days. It is over double or 2.5 times. But congratulations Insomniac!
I hate live service and I fail to see Sony having any sucess anywhere near the level Fortnite, as the game will need to be everywhere like pc, mobile, xbox, switch to hit that level.
I really don't think this will end well, and now they are spending even more money on them, the fall is going to be even bigger.
I really hoped they had finally seen sense and were going to pivot away, but no, they decided to double down
I watched a trailer for the game and it just looks like a mass murder simulator and one of the levels looks like a school massacre. As a father of 2 I find it disgusting, what is wrong with people that it is entertainment for them. Troubled indeed
@Ben7982 i agree Sony would not want it, and i believe they have said that already. And looking to the future with Cloud gaming, why would they go to that cost and years of development time, when they could just stream it to your TV with a gamepass app like Samsung Tvs and Gefore Now do now, and let you use the dualsence or any other controller. Makes alot more business sense to me
@Balosi I agree. I am not sure people think things through before they say them.
Just getting gamepass onto PS or Nintendo would be a huge task as a proportion of the games are not even available on PS or Nintendo.
How much effort would it be to port every single xbox 1st party game to PS and or Nintendo for gamepass, never mind all the other games. It would take years and years
I wish everyone the best of luck moving forward. Losing your job just before the holiday season sucks. Hopefully most land a cushy new job asap
While Sony did recently announce record revenue (as the article points out) their total profit was actually down. The devil is always in the detail.
They even reported in their last financial statement that they predict the PlayStation business profit to deteriorate due to promotions etc (The recent sale price of the PS5 and not raising the price in the USA are 2 recent examples that spring to mind) "Sony expects profitability for its latest console to deteriorate in the full year due to changes in promotions in certain geographic regions."
While I strongly disagree with them doing it, I imagine this is a knock on effect of that and the writing has been on the wall for some cost savings.
@get2sammyb is that not what happens when you need a Nintendo console to play Mario, and you need a Playstation to play Spiderman, but you don't not need an xbox console to play xbox games.
They moved beyond the console years ago, but people keep comparing them in console sales disingenuously
@SleepyNick you could be correct, and maybe it will have long sales legs, but I always expect Mario titles to have the longest legs. Some of their evergreen titles seem to stick around in the charts forever, and deservedly so
Only 1 week at the top for Spiderman 2 is suprising as its a long established hugely popular IP that has reach even beyond gaming. For that reason I did not expect the sales drop off to be as large as it was
I have enjoyed Ragnarok and Forbidden West, but I don't think they were as good as the previous games.
Sony has been knocking it out the park with production values, but the games have not evolved enough from last gen for me personally. I have not played Spiderman 2, I will eventually, but I get the same feedback from people who have completed it. Good but not as good as what came before.
I think their games need to evolve as they all getting samey and stale for me. Its ubisoft 2.0
I think Sony need to take a step back and stop making their games so 'cookie cutter'
Well done Insomniac! I don't think selling less physical copies at launch than spiderman 1 is a problem as the install base was much larger on the ps4. I would have expected that
@Serialsid and it was the highest selling game last month, despite being ons gamepass day 1, so the advertising worked. That's the job of marketing, to sell the game.
They spent $6 billion for gamepass content, as we found out during the abk trial
@PsBoxSwitchOwner because you need a Playstation to play FF16, and a Switch to play Mario, but you don't need an xbox to play Starfield, and Bethesdas main audience has always been on PC for decades. I hope people are finally understanding lol

@TanookiLeaf yes they are 2.5trillion dollar company because they are bad at doing business
Playstation sell consoles so they can sell software, as that is where they make the money. Its the only way they can sell software.
You don't need an xbox console to play xbox games. It is pretty obvious console sales are not their yard stick for sucess. It's a different business model.
Don't take my word for it. Just read industry analysts or Microsoft themselfs under oath during the abk trial

@TanookiLeaf yes that is correct. Have you not been paying attention the last few years to literally every analyst in the industry, or even all the details we found out during the ABK trial lol
@UltimateOtaku91 If Microsoft really cared about console sales, they wouldn't release all their games day 1 on PC and streaming. You literally don't need an xbox to play xbox games. How more obvious could it be that they have moved beyond the traditional console market lol
@Serialsid BGS main audience is on PC and always has been, so their games were never going to be console system sellers, as the majority of their fans already play on PC. Why would you buy a Series S for Starfield if you already own a PC for their games.
They were purchased for gamepass content, as confirmed during the ABK trial
@Powerplay94 you can also stream it to a device you already own like a phone or tablet. No need for an expensive pc or console. Their business has evolved beyond console sales

Re: UK Sales Charts: Everyone Hates Modern Warfare 3, But It's Still Number One
@Martsmall I meant that I don't care how a company makes their money, as in rental or sales, not that I don't care that the company is sucessful.
Any company whose products I use like Sony, MS and nintendo I hope are somewhat sucessful, for the reason you mentioned

Re: UK Sales Charts: Everyone Hates Modern Warfare 3, But It's Still Number One
@UltimateOtaku91 yes you can, because Vanguard bombed and was widely regarded a terrible product and that is what the 42% increase is comparing it to.
Physical sales were actually down 61% when compared to Modern Warfare 2019 and not Vanguard. Now do you finally see?
It explains most of this in the very article you quoted me mate. Did you read the whole thing and not just the title?
You even edited your original comment again and now it makes even less sense than originally
