Re: PS Portal Still a Huge Success as Sony Reportedly Preps PS6 Handheld

OptimusPrime1

I ended up returning mine due to better overall experience on a 4K TV, the lack of back buttons being hard to go back to after getting used to DualSense Edge, and the high input latency (especially for games that benefit from quick reactions). That latency comes from Remote Play itself (which Portal relies on) and is due to video encoding latency on the PS5. So, the input latency is still high even if you remove all network latency by connecting the Remote Play client device directly to the PS5 via Ethernet cable without the router in between (not possible with Portal, as that's WiFi-only).

@MrPeanutbutterz To be fair, making any multiplayer trophy a requirement for platinum is essentially paywalling the platinum trophy, since players will need to pay extra for a PS+ subscription to get it for such a single-player game with an optional multiplayer content that needs to be downloaded (aka a DLC). They could have easily put multiplayer trophies into a separate trophy list (just like in Ghost of Tsushima, for example).

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate State of Play for June 2025?

To me, it was good, as I'm certainly interested in 007 First Light, Pragmata, Sword of the Sea, Ghost of Yotei, and Thief PSVR2, but not at all in the other announcements. Also, I wished they finished with something bigger, like a Saros or Intergalactic gameplay trailer, or maybe a Horizon 3 teaser or Horizon Online announcement.

For me to pay for such multiplayer games (i.e. games that rely on popularity to be playable at all), it would have to be one of the top 5 best games in existence. As for this generic-looking, trend-chasing game, it would have to be either free-to-play or super cheap to gain a sustainable player base, given the saturated market of all the currently popular (and higher-quality) multiplayer games, live-service or not, since they appeal to the same type of players.

@Zeke68 Thanks for the response. To see if I could find anything, I checked the EU PS blog site archives in Wayback Machine (linked below), where blog posts end on 2020/05/28 (when that site merge probably happened as there are only redirect pages archived soon after), and couldn't find any blog posts archived in 2020 (or 2019) with Returnal or Housemarque in the URL. FWIW, the game was apparently announced on 2020/06/11, so that might not be surprising.

@Zeke68 I haven't heard of such a player-specific world seed that would consistently make it more difficult for some. Do you remember which Returnal blog post you read that in? https://blog.playstation.com/tag/returnal/
FYI, weapon level number is determined based on your current weapon proficiency number when you find the weapon. So, you can't find a high-level weapon at the beginning (i.e. when you have low proficiency). And each different type of weapon only spawns after you find that type of weapon for the first time at its corresponding discovery biome and room (assuming that room spawns in your current cycle).
