Despite Concerns, Physical Copies of Gears of War PS5 Appear to Have the Campaign on the Disc

It is good that Microsoft doesn't use up all the disc space to save electricity during production due to the rising concern regarding climate changes.

If game companies want me to buy a game, the full version better be on the disc/cartridge.

Pity they didn’t segregate the single player and multiplayer portions of the game into separate trophy lists. I would have loved to run through the campaign again after all this time, but I won’t be playing this due to some of the absurd anti-trophy-hunter multiplayer criteria. Sadly, since they mash those trophies into the main list like with most games, it means I bypass it.

Just put the game on the disc microsoft, are microsoft really afraid that gamers can play their games offline without microsoft consent? The game that the gamers already bought with their money I might add.

I bet Microsoft talked at the table for a good few minutes when deciding this move.

@wiiware I think PvP not being on the disc might be about there being no bot matches for PvP so when the servers shut down the PvP will be unplayable irrelevant of whether it's on the disc or not.

@MrPeanutbutterz To be fair, making any multiplayer trophy a requirement for platinum is essentially paywalling the platinum trophy, since players will need to pay extra for a PS+ subscription to get it for such a single-player game with an optional multiplayer content that needs to be downloaded (aka a DLC). They could have easily put multiplayer trophies into a separate trophy list (just like in Ghost of Tsushima, for example).

I feel like this is just a touched-up version of the ultimate edition remaster that came out in 2016. I'm waiting for newer versions of 2 and 3.

I'm fine with the online-only components of a game needing download. But the article says "full single player campaign" instead of "full story campaign"

Is split-screen/local multiplayer also locked behind a download?

It's still so ridiculous that Playstation gamers getting this game at all. And the Xbox doesn't get the disc version. Very very weird.
At least, I don't get charged and got the upgrade for free.

Nice that the PS5 gets a physical copy of this game. Meanwhile, the company that made the game isn't going to release a physical copy for their own console. Sorry, but I'm on a Microsoft rant these days. I'm a Series X owner and PS5 owner, but I'm not happy with a lot of Microsoft's gaming decisions lately. So, I've been voting with my wallet. I haven't touched my Series X in a few months and will continue to purchase any games that I can for my PS5 Pro.

This is just part 1 right, not all 3 games in the trilogy that make up the whole story? Should definitely be able to fit that on a disc, I don't care how much they've remastered or remade it. I could see the trilogy maybe getting a little big to fit on a disc.

Good on them for doing it though. Not too flustered about the online multi-player needing online to download it.

I might pick this up. I haven't played a GOW game since the Xbox 360 days.

It's akin to not popping a credit into a Pac-Man or Space Invaders cabinet back in the day because they can't get their initials to the top of the high score table. Absolutely wild mentality.

@blockfight @MrPeanutbutterz I think it's like a sunken cost fallacy at this point. So much of their pride in their account stems from platinums % of their games played. Hard to break something you've built up. Personally I'd just make like a 2nd account on the same ps for games I won't platinum. If it matters that much that the other account stays pure

I don't quite get these download only discs and Nintendo's game key cards.
Wouldn't avoiding physical players having to download massive files spare them some burden on their servers? Expanding the infrastructure and maintaining it doesn't come cheap either. It's not a "one and done" expense.
