Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will be adding to its playable character roster via downloadable content. We've known that's going to be the case for a while, but Square Enix has now given us very vague clues as to who the six additional fighters will be.
And by very vague, we mean the publisher has given us their sex and a hint at what Final Fantasy games they're originally from from.
Here's what we've got to go on, as translated by Gematsu:
- Male, New (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
- Male, New (from older half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
- Female, New (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
- Male, New (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
- Female, Previously Appeared in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
- Male, New (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
Okay, so we know there are currently 15 mainline Final Fantasy games, and that being an odd number means that we're not quite sure where the halfway mark lies. We assume "newer half" refers to anything from Final Fantasy VIII and beyond. It's also worth pointing out that only one teased character isn't completely new to the Dissidia series, so that means we're not going to see the return of Gabranth or, based on this information, Tifa. The female who previously appeared in Dissidia has to be Yuna, right?
Anyway, NT is out in just a few weeks on PlayStation 4, so it shouldn't be too long until we get confirmation. All of these additional characters will be part of the title's season pass, but you'll also be able to buy them separately, if you prefer.
Who would you like to see in Dissidia NT? Let's get speculating in the comments section below.

I'm wondering if one of the females would be Aranea Highwind.
Unless they count the newer half as the 3D games, so 7 and up?
@SuperSilverback Could be, but then their maths is sh*te.
@Onion That's a good call, I think we'll definitely see another character from XV.
@Onion Could be Beatrix (FF IX).
Here are my guess:
Caius Ballad
Vincent Valentine (depends where is the middle )
Auron
Beatrix or Aranea Highwind
Yuna or Tifa (again, depends where is the middle)
Vivi
Tifa or riot.
Laguna again! Please! He was fun to play and had a lot of personality!("The Greatest Attack Ever!!!")
No Tifa no buy
again as others have said it depends on what game Square chose as their half way point BUT assuming your right and FFVIII is the game then i'm hoping for
Wakka from FFX: Using a Blitzball for attacking would be make him a unique character and the game needs more specialists
Sabin René Figaro from FFVI: it could use some more brawlers and he would make a good Vanguard
Fran from FFXII: Quick and nimble, would fit in well in the Assassin class
Ignis Scientia from FFXV: So he can come up with new recipehs!
Aerith Gainsborough from FFVII: with her magic she would fit in well in the Marksman class (as the returning character, she wasn't playable in 012 but she was there as an assist)
Adelbert Steiner from FFIX: another Vanguard but it would help balance out the classes
Tonberry, Moogle and Cactuar kings!
Unfortunately it's definitely going to be Tifa instead of Yuna.
Kain is probably a shoe-in, given how popular he is.
@Cassetticons he is already in the game
@WanderingBullet Would buy instantly if it was haha
Barratt from ff7? More likely to be Vincent i guess. Wouldnt be surprised to see balthier, gabranth or fran from 12. Wouldnt be surprised to see tifa turn up at some point. Wakka would be cool, and maybe prompto as range characters
If snow turns up i will be very disappointed
I want tifa, yuna and lulu.
@FullbringIchigo WHOOPS nevermind then
It should be people like Beatrix, Seifer, Tifa, and Edgar, but it'll probably be people like all those ones from XIII I can't remember the names of because they were rubbish.
So no Tifa again one of the most classic FF characters are you kidding me FFS Square-Enix.
@Flaming_Kaiser well lets be honest she isn't the main character so she doesn't need to be in the game at all
1 hero the main character and 1 villain from each game is the basis so for 7 that would be Cloud and Sephiroth anyone extra from a game is a pure bonus
@Flaming_Kaiser i guarantee square counts 7 as latter half of series and the returning character IS Tifa.
Maybe Yuna from x-2,if square counts her as new character.
Personally I think it would make more sense if we see 'older' vs 'newer' as a gap of every 5 years...
so anything before X = older
anything from X - XV = newer
my guess is that one of the male characters could be another character from FF XV. I see a lot of people think Ardyn could fill this slot though honestly I could do without him in the game, i'd rather see Prompto or Nyx for a 2nd male spot in game.
Zack Fair - speculated by a lot of people, I think he could be the possible unnamed warrior DLC for the generic day 1 edition.
Araneia Highwind - Do I need to say much here? Let's be honest, she is one of the best and most developed characters of FF XV. She can hold her own, was great in Episode Prompto, and if given the choice I'd rather see her in Dissidia than Ardyn of all people. I doubt any other female character from XV would be more likely than her at this point.
I enjoyed Lunafreya as a character but she isn't the type to be placed in Dissidia.
Vayne or Snow from FF XIII - both seem likely choices to join lightning in Dissidia.
Yuna from FF X - Previous Dissidia character, most likely to join to give a female character from X.
As for the last male spot? Its probably someone from type 0 or XV.
Now, on a random note, if any female character were to be used from FF VII...I think it would most likely be
Aerith Gainsborough - IMO, she is the most likely candidate to be put in game as the first/only female from VII. Why? Because her role was crucial to the actions of both Cloud and Sephiroth. Aeris was tied to the Cetra race and one of the best support characters in any FF game. I think given the fact fans were pretty upset over her death makes a possible appearance in Dissidia more plausible. This would allow both old and new fans to enjoy her character in a scenario where her tragic story doesnt have to be the main thing defining her role.
Regardless of who we wind up getting I hope they're fleshed out nicely and keep things both balanced and interesting for players.
