Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 498

@Dusk_Actual , don't give up the battle to quit smoking. Try different methods and meds. Cigarettes are obscenely expensive, addictive, makes everything and places stink, can't smoke anywhere, and slowly but surely compromises breathing and health.

I guit after surgery almost twenty years ago. Patches didn't work for me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 498

NoCode23

After many hours of RE4, PRO, I decided on some RDRO, PRO, after about a year absence. Everything was just like I left it. Same camp, same outfit, and same horse. Also the same demented weather guy that only allows clear weather for about 10 minutes before the overcast, rain, and fog are dialed up.

Re: PS5 Slim Officially Unveiled, Attachable Disc Drive, Launches November

NoCode23

@boarderbro88, overall I find both ugly, especially with drive and horizontally which how all of my consoles are displayed.

This new model still looks whopperjawed, but now smaller. It still looks to me like parts of 3 designs glued together along with some deformity from exposure to high temperatures. Reminiscent of the old Johnny Cash song 'One Piece At A Time'

Re: PS5 Slim Officially Unveiled, Attachable Disc Drive, Launches November

NoCode23

Still ugly but now, drumroll, it's smaller 😴. Still have to pay extra for black side panels and now the vertical stand is optional at extra cost. There is now 175GB more storage, thats good. An easy to replace disc drive is also good, but is the ssd still integrated? How quiet is it? Is the horizontal stand improved? Still no web browser, folders, and themes the previous PS3 and PS4 have.

Still disappointed with the current gen Playstation console. Still using my PS3 and PRO.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan May Have Been Disliked, But Leaves Big Boots to Fill

NoCode23

The ugly deformed looking monstrosity PS5 was launched while JR was ceo. Also dropping the web browser, a ui downgrade from the PS4, no themes and folders, and not being able to store PS5 games externally. To be fair I don't know how much say JR may have had with all that but it was while he was ceo.

After 30 years and a good pension why not retire and leave the grind behind.

Re: Jim Ryan Retires as PlayStation Boss in March 2024

NoCode23

Age mid 50's, 30 years with the same company, good pension. Why not retire and leave the grind behind? Enjoy doing what, where, and when you want to do with the short time one has left.

However overall JR never really inspired me much and was the ceo when how the PS5 was decided to look. To be fair I don't know what say JR had in the final decision, maybe he was totally against the final ugly deformed looking plastic monster look. Then there was the dropping of a web browser with the PS5 and other shortcomings of the PS5. All that a switch to a series X could provide. All while JR was the ceo.

Last, but not least, are all of the photos that have JR looking like a doctor about to give his patient some very bad news. Put it all together and for me that is JR's legacy as the ceo.

Re: Nacon's Revolution 5 Pro Controller Promises to Eliminate Stick Drift on PS5, PS4

NoCode23

1) asymmetrical sticks? not even the option to switch to symmetrical? Duh! The controller is for Playstation, double duh.

2) the cost? ain't no way!

3) stick drift? one new DS4 I purchased started to get left stick drift after about 10 days of use. no hitting with a hammer or dropping it into the toilet. stick drift may be a combination of stick design and game design, and maybe too the console. GTA 5 on my PS4 will get left stick drift or no stick drift with my DS4 depending on the dead zone setting.

My current DS4 is now 2 years old with daily use and the sticks do not drift while playing a game. the only issue is when using the browser. the page will auto scroll up until I press the left stick hard to the left or right and then rotate the stick in a circle a few times. that would fix it for a week, but now only about an hour.

4) d-pad? I prefer the DS3 d-pad that is one piece instead of 4 buttons. that one piece, for me, is more accurate, especially in selecting the in-betweens like in-between up and right in Fallout games for selecting weapons.

5) could change my mind factors, How the controller is in use, how it feels in my hand, how the sticks feel, do I like the buttons, the battery life, durability, an option for a symmetrical stick layout along with a pop out pop in feature to replace the stick and trigger assemblies.

Re: PS3 Classics Oblivion and Fallout 3 are Reportedly Being Remastered

NoCode23

While playing Skyrim on my PS4 I hoped Fallout 3, and or, NV would be next, and soon if it looked and played as well as Skyrim on my PS4. The backwards compatibility of the XBox may have kept that from happening.

Right now I am not counting on anything new, remastered, or remade coming to Playstation from Bugthesda, at least not at release.

On one Oblivion save file I left the Adoring Fan at the bottom of a river, that was like 12 years ago. I hope he forgives me. On one Fallout 3 save file I left Sticky at Point Lookout to guard Panada. He still wants to go to big town.

Re: Stealth PS4 Firmware Update 11.00 Is Adding New Features

NoCode23

One update for me that is long overdue is to be able to disable auto downloading and auto installing of game updates. I have turned everything auto to off. Works for firmware updates, but not games.

Everytime I start a game, even with the disc already inserted, an update starts to download and will then auto install while I play the game. If I cancel the download at start I will need to cancel again after the loading screens and game play starts.

Three things: I only download after I research the contents, I may want to play unpatched so I can still use some glitches and exploits a patch removes, and I may not want a 15-20GB patch/update that is huge because it contains a dlc I will never want to pay to unlock.

Re: Is Sony Working on a New PS2 Emulator for PS5, PS4?

NoCode23

The PS1 and PS2 library on PS4 and 5 is very small. More PS2 games on Plus Premium is long, long, long, overdue. The worst is the only streaming of the beginning of the HD era PS3 games. Even if a streamed game plays half decent there is still no local saves, screen capture, and often no dlc. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are only half the game without their dlc.

A PS1 and 2 emulator on the PS4 and or PS5? I'll see it when I believe it.

Re: Iconic PS2 Platformer Beyond Good & Evil Appears to Be Coming to PS5

NoCode23

The controls will need fixed for me and many others. Thankfully I got a very cheap used copy because the controls made it unplayable. I need X and Y to move like my body does. That is tilt my head back to look up and turn my head/body right to look right. With BYG&E on PS2 I am forced to look left to look right when I choose the setting that offers head tilt back, cervical spine extension, to look up. It's been maybe 12 years but that's how I remember the controls are and the problems I had with it.

Re: PS5, PS4 Owners Are Understandably Irate with PS Plus Price Hike

NoCode23

Well I have expected this. What Sony needs now and, has needed, is a basic tier that provides just the online play at a price less than essential. That would work for many, those that do not benefit from the monthly games or sales. Cloud saving would be included in this cheaper tier because the PS5 does not allow saves to a USB drive like the PS3 and PS4 do. Price for basic basic tier? $40 would be reasonable.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

NoCode23

I just purchased my second year of Plus Premium for PS4. For me the first year was a great value as I only purchased one game and that was used and yet to be played. The second year looks promising if some good games are added and games I want to play are not removed.

A 3rd year and beyond will be decided by price and the game catalogue. By then it could be like Netfilx which I dropped because the price went up and the value went down as the stuff I wanted to watch became less and less.

I only started Plus in 2016 to play GTA online on my PS4 and that was only because of new content and updates not releasing to the PS3. The "free" games I looked forward to receiving turned into about 2 or 3 per year I actually played. Cloud saves were not needed as I used a usb drive on both PS3 and PS4.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus Essential Game for September 2023 Leaked Early

NoCode23

This games has looked like a game I would probably only play about an hour or to two even if free. What happens is my mind will wander to thoughts of favorite games I could instead be replaying. I then do play another game and seldomly return. Right now it's a solid maybe I'll ever download it.

Re: PlayStation Portal Is Sony's PS5 Remote Play Handheld, Priced at $200 / £200

NoCode23

Limited use one trick pony niche product. It will be interesting to see sales numbers and the reports from those that purchased one.

For me I have no use for this product. Maybe sitting on my porch or in bed, but in those locations I use my 10" tablet and web surf, watch youtube or an app like Netflix and take a break from playing video games. I can see a use in households with multiple people and only one tv or for those that would like patio, porch, or bed use.

Re: Hands On: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Port Seems Solid, But Should Be So Much More

NoCode23

I attempted a replay on my PS3 about 3 years ago but lost interest after about an hour or so because of the graphics. Even a non remastered upgrade in graphics and smooth 30fps has me considering purchasing this new version of RDR after a price drop.

The big deal here will be for the experience first time players will have. $50 for the game and Nightmare dlc for them will be good value. For me I purchased RDR when released in 2010 and can not loose the idea that I should be able to put my PS3 disc into my PS4 and download this port, same with my Nightmare disc. Or for $10 each to download.

Re: GTA 6 Release Window Seemingly Narrowed Down to Fiscal Year 2024

NoCode23

I am cautiously optimistic about GTA6. After all the years since 5 was in development and changes in staff will GTA still be GTA. There is certainly enough current politics and culture to parody, but will R☆ do it? Will it be Teen rated? Will it need played on a PS5 PRO or PS6 to have good frame rates. Will there be a toggle option to sprint so X can just be tapped once to run instead of holding X pressed to run?

Re: Reaction: What Happens to PlayStation if Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard?

NoCode23

Phil Spencer says more games on more systems and to more people. That is as long as you're not on a Sony console. I can see more MS attempted purchases and the price of game pass going up as those many places to play mandate a game pass subscription.

Sony can counter with their exclusives that are as good or better than games lost from MS purchases, or as what I would love to see happen. Sony purchases Ubisoft and Take-2 and thumb their noses at MS. Then Jimbo announces that games that will still be on Xbox will be a game by game decision, but that RDR3 and GTA6 are Definitely not coming to Xbox.😛😛😛😛.

Re: Red Dead Redemption Revival Looking More and More Likely as Evidence Mounts

NoCode23

What do those 2 releases in 2024 say about when GTA 6 will be released? I doubt R☆ would release 6 anytime near another of their releases. So is 2025 then the earliest for 6?

Both RDR1 and GTA4 would be welcomed in an updated version. By 2024 those games will be 14 and 16 year old respectively. A whole generation of younger players have never played them on a Sony console, and no generation have played good updated versions of those games on a Sony console.

Re: Alan Wake 2's Digital-Only Release Allows for a More Polished Game, Says Remedy

NoCode23

For me physical over digital is about game size and playing the original release. Smaller sizes up to about 20GB are ok digital, where AAA titles from 50GB to over 100GB I want the full game on a disk.

Playing original releases offer play before patches that can change stuff like glitches, exploits, nerfing weapons, and funny bugs. Some of those changes come with day one patches, other changes come later after discovered in game play.

Overall I can not go against a game company from attempting to maximize profits by selling digital only. The only big issues I have are games that require online connection and PSN connection to play games I loaded onto my hard drive, and games on a disk that are just a key to download a huge game file.

The difference in carbon footprint sizes between physical and digital I don't know. I do know that the used game market has already diminished from the gamers that at their preference have gone digital.

Re: Sony Eager to Ensure PS Plus Remains Relevant and Offers More Value

NoCode23

Sony does need to consider the future. Probably more so to keep the current subscribers than adding new subscribers. That will be done by games added. The option of downloading pre PS4 games, allowing screen shots/video capture of games streamed, and a longer pause while streaming before being kicked would all be welcomed upgrades.

I was going to add another year to Premium this past sale but declined. I will wait and see.

Re: Fans Think GTA 6's Imminent Reveal Is Being Teased in GTA Online

NoCode23

After such a long wait for a new GTA game I am hoping for a reveal of Six like Fallout 4 was revealed. That is revealed along with a definite release date in 5 months. No tiny short teaser followed by a year or year+ of hype and more waiting along with speculations of delays. Better yet just reveal and release two weeks later.

A full length single player story is absolutely important to have. Also important is having tap and hold and tap to toggle running options on release and not 9 years after release.

Re: PS Plus, Game Pass Subscription Growth Has Totally Stalled in USA

NoCode23

The leveling of numbers of subscribers is one thing, maintaining that number is another thing.

Improvements and good new games added to Plus Extra and Premium may not get higher subscriber numbers, but will probably be needed to maintain the current number.

For me the upgrade, last summer, to Premium has worked well as my plan was to hold off new game purchases for at least a year that has now turned into maybe another year. The reasons are; wait to play new games after I upgrade from my PRO, and that new games being released of interest are at a trickle pace. So while I wait for a slim PS5 or go XBOX and new games prices to drop I'll do just fine with my PRO with games I have and what Extra and Premium have.

With the current discount I will have another year of Premium starting this October based on the assumption that some "good" games will be added to games I have yet to play and that not too many I want to play are removed. After that year it may become endless scholling and finding little of interest and thus getting dumped. Then too if I slide over to XBOX that will end any interest in Plus.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 479

NoCode23

Bioshock remaster PS4, Plus download. My first replay since 2009 and feels all new. Smooth 60 fps on my PRO and looks great at only 1080p.

I picked "easy" after having a recent replay of Bioshock 2. That is because "easy" in Bioshock 2 felt like the hard setting on some games I have played that makes enemies be bullet sponges and their attacks do more damage. However "easy" in Bioshock does play easy.

I am enjoying playing those two old Bioshock games. It's all fun with a nonsensical story with creepy little sisters, and silly enemies to battle. Then there is the the welcomed simplicity of design and play. I recommend both Bioshock and Bioshock 2.

Re: GTA Online Adds Enormous San Andreas Mercenaries Update on PS5, PS4 from 13th June

NoCode23

I will definitely see if I find this content fun. However it is still the same map. A map I love, but a map that is all too familiar as I have played 5 since the week of release Sept. 2013.

The taxi business in online is wack, does anyone play that for longer than 2 or 3 customers. My taxi career ended when I entered a cab at the cab lot and my fair to pick up was at the observatory. I found taxi driver fun in single player GTA games and with the benefits of helping to learn new maps and adding cash to my empty pockets.

The running upgrade/fix is most welcomed. However a toggle to run option is what I most want. Hopefully that option is included with the press to run feature.

Re: PS5's Remote Play Portable Will Allegedly Launch in November

NoCode23

I just watched the short reveal video and a vision passed through my mind. It was Slim Pickens on horseback riding on stage past Jim Ryan and saying "what in the wide wide world of sports is a going on here"? My next thought was, is this an Onion News sketch?

Some questions: does it play everything like apps, the gallery, and web if the PS5 had a web browser?
Is there a stand for it along with being able to use a regular controller so It can be played non hand-held? Why not compatible with PS4? How is this better than using a 10 inch android tablet with a DualSense to play a PS5?

For me the disappoint is that this was revealed and not a slim PS5 model. For those that wanted a hand-held they too are disappointed as this is not what they wanted.

Re: Sony's Portable PS5 Streaming Handheld Launches Later This Year

NoCode23

I have no use for this and I question how large of a market is there for it? Why would one play on a tiny screen at home? Then there is the common teeny tiny skinny text size that may be even more difficult to read on an 8 inch screen.

News of a slim PS5 coming this fall/winter is what I was hoping for. Also with a web browser and new ui that allows custom themes like my PS3 and PS4 do.
