Every time we see Alan Wake 2 we’re blown away, and this 11 minute demo published by IGN is no exception. Unlike the Gamescom footage, this sequence focuses on second playable protagonist Saga Anderson, and showcases some of her FBI detective skills, as well as general exploration and combat. The atmosphere and overall sense of style is seriously impressive.
This has also got to be one of the best looking PS5 games to date – it’s absolutely breathtaking, especially the environmental artwork. Are you impressed by what you’ve seen of this game so far? Is it on your wishlist in an admittedly action-packed October? Connect the dots in the comments section below.

Release it physically and I'll buy it, until then it's a deep sale purchase a couple of years down the line.
@PixelDragon completely agree, i loved the first one and remedy games in general and was really excited when this was announced but i will not support digital only releases on AAA games
Agree with both you guys...
The only exception I made to buying an expensive Digital one was BG3. Other than that I wait until Digital only releases
go on sale or get added to PS+
With Spider-Man 2 in the same week and no physical release this is going to bomb big time for the first few months.
The delay made the release date even worse.
@NoToSheep
Binned off getting BG3 as well. My PC isn't good enough and I've stopped buying games for it regardless (huge back cat), and the news that the PS5 version isn't getting a physical release outside of Japan stayed my hand.
Even stopped buying digital games for the Series S several months ago.
It looks absolutely incredible, and I love the sound effects that are seemingly directly tied to Control. I can’t wait to play this game — and it aligns with the time I’m taking vacation from work. It should be a great Halloween.
Enemies take entirely too many hits and the combat looks like it’s going to let the game down. I do like the detective board and the graphics are pretty damn good
@PixelDragon Remedy will probably make a similar amount of money from your digital deep sale purchase than they would from a full price physical one, due to a higher margin and lack of disc production fees. My guess is once the percentage of physical sales drops to a certain percentage (in guessing 30%), the percentage of physical games profit will be low enough that a lot of publishers pull the plug. It'll only take one to do it and come out ok for the rest to follow.
I really want to play this but with Mirage and Spiderman 2 out in October itl have to be an xmas purchase.
Too many gameplay mechanics for my taste. Looks like a spooky Detective Pikachu X The Last of Us. I‘d prefer a spooky TLoU clone.
@Fyz306903
Whether they make a profit or not is of no concern to me. I'm just no longer buying digital games for anything more than £20 tops and haven't done in some time.
My video game buying in general has reduced exponentially in the last few years.
For a game called Alan Wake 2 they sure don't seem interested in well Alan Wake, should have named this something else.
It looks amazing but i cant safely say my wallet will be ok on this one. Cant play any game remotely tense or horror related.
Looks good and I want to buy it day one but Control launching in poor shape has made decide to wait and see reviews and DF. Anyway with SM2 and Mario Wonder I will probably be busy till at least mid-november.
@NoToSheep At least you have the sense to make an exception for something like BG3.
Otherwise, people are just cutting off their nose to spite their face when it comes to refusing to buy games such as Alan Wake and BG3, and that situation will only become more and more prevalent.
Hardly like they're sticking it to the man either, Sony and the rest won't even notice.
Hey @get2sammyb can we just confirm - this gameplay clip suggests it’s on PC or Xbox given the player is pressing “A” and “Y” to interact? If so, (a) is this article title possibly misleading implying it’s PS5 gameplay footage, and (y?!) is it possible to confirm whether we have actually seen any PS5 gameplay footage or screenshots at all yet?
Only heard the news today that it's digital only, which is a big let down. But i am so hyped for this one, i might buy it still on release date... let me think about it.
Baldurs gate or Spider-Man 2 hmmm
@Pranwell I do think physical media is important. We live in a time where streamers and online marketplaces can remove an entire piece of media from the public eye (for video games just look at the PT demo).
The problem for me is discs no longer have the entire game with the existence of patches, post launch content and DLC making discs nearly irrelevant unless it is a complete edition.
This is the only game I'm looking forward to this year, but there's not way I'm buying digital at full price. Release a physical copy or I'll just wait for a sale.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I'm kind of the same, and it would most def be a waste of money downloading this but not actually being able to play it but the first one was such a good (and horrifying) experience.
I hope they drop a demo or sum so you can try it out dawg.
You play Control? Not really scary but great frickin game, same universe as well, might tie you over.
@Powerplay94 for me a a couple of key factors for digital vs physical is also a game like Baldurs gate, which i really want to play but dont know if i will like it or not cant be traded in to recuperate some of the money paid to buy it in the first place. The other key factor is that physical always seems to be cheaper than digital which shouldnt be the case. I do buy digital sometimes and have regretted buying digital on a couple of occasions but i tend to buy games in the sale so i dont tend to lose out so much. Would hate to feel like id lost £60 on BG3 tho. Agree with your points tho.
@Cherip-the-Ripper i think i tried control out at one point whencit was in a pretty poor state. May pick it up on the PS5 tho. I really dont do anything remotely scary, i just cant. I wish i could tho as ive missed out on some bangers. Remember playing PT when it first came out and it went off as soon as the baby started crying 😂😂😂
The gameplay and the graphics looks amazing.alan wake 2 is going to be a really good game.word up son
@Kidfunkadelic83
Ah yh I didn't play it until it got the next gen upgrade, worked wonderfully at the time. Barely any hiccups.
You should've gotten Control through ps plus as well so it's just one install away.
awww man I wish I could've played PT, I started gaming after the whole PT debacle so I had to learn what it was all about after the fact 😭
I'm sure you had a 'fun' time of it though haha
If there were a physical version, I’d buy it day one; it looks great. But since it’s digital-only, I’ll be skipping it entirely.
With Spiderman and Mario coming a week before and this being digital only, I can't see myself getting this. Graphically it's not too bad but the gameplay doesn't do anything for me.
I'll likely end up grabbing this one after the big hitters settle down a bit. I'd guess early next year.
Can’t wait to drop everything else I’m playing to play this one. Seriously believe this one may be the sleeper critical hit for the year.
@Cherip-the-Ripper i did indeed get control ultimate edition through PS+. Ive just started downloading it. Not sute if its the upgraded ps5 version or regular ps4 version tho. I know with some ps+ games they dont offer the free upgrade.
I don’t get the “no digital game” stance. Those who are saying “pass”…,whatever. Do without. Your position won’t change anything in the market. But hey, you sure showed them.
I refuse to buy physical copies. I don’t need the clutter. And I don’t need more than a handful of games installed at any one time. It takes no time at all to remove something and download/install something in its place.
Love Remedy, they continue to make games their way, and develop their own engine and toolsets.
As expected , this looks great.
@Kidfunkadelic83 can confirm it's the PS5 version w/all dlc
@Titntin exactly.
Day 1 for me. Super hyped.
Its not a lake its an ocean.
@NeutronBomb thanks buddy. Will it auto upgrade? When i was downloading it said PS4.
Remedy always finds a way to scam people...no thanks.
Like all that nonsense about how they 'couldn't' do Control upgrades.
Now they 'can't' possibly do a physical release for AW2. Whatever.
Preordered ages ago deluxe edition fri Turkey psn
@DarthOreo With digital it just is ill wait untill it's cheap why hurry on something that will always be locked in a digital store.
I just beat the first one this year. if this one is short i'll give it a go at some point, enjoyed first but didn't love it. was more looking forward to alone in the dark which is delayed

@DarthOreo think your missing the point, anti digital only does not mean anti digital. You prefer digital products and thats fine. It is a FACT however that releasing a game to a digital only market limits consumers CHOICE and this is NEVER a good thing. Gaming is a hobby which is becoming increasingly more costly in a climate where people struggle to buy essentials so i want the option to sell on a game i purchase. In a digital only market i do not have this option and i will only ever be able to buy it at a price determined by the playstation store. Like i said less choice is never good.
I want a physical release, not doing full price games for a digital release.
@PixelDragon you want them to release it physically so you can sell it later on? They'd rather wait for you to buy it for half the price on the sale. Weird threat
Ahti from Control singing at the beginning. Love it.
@NeutronBomb well ive downloaded it from the PS+ games and its defenately the ps4 version. This is the free PS+ game given out a long time ago and not the version thats on Extra that has a ps5/ps4 symbol next to it.
This video looks like it could be the next Resident Evil game. The weak base pistol and bullet sponge enemies, looking for a tool to defeat a locked door, and stuff like "just follow this spooky path pretty lady" are all RE. That's cool.

If roughly another 65 people could come along to whinge about how they want but it because it’s digital - that would be amazing.
Honestly - I really love reading the same stuck record party line comment over and over and over again.

@Kidfunkadelic83 I get it. Where I live Physical is often more expensive after shipping than digital for the PS5 games but Somehow Switch games are sold an entire 10 gbp cheaper for physical. So my PS is mostly digital now because of sales and price of physical while my Switch is almost completely physical.
@DennisReynolds lol I know, if the game is called Alan Wake and and his character is the one of the main draws to those buying the sequel it would be common sense show some footage of him in the demo.
One of the best PS5 games.... since when has being playable on a PS5 meant it was a PS5 game? I get it - FF16 is a PS5 game (Sony paid for it, but they also paid for Forsaken). Other than SM2 (fingers crossed), and a DLC drop for HFW, what else did we get this year? And for the record, didn't buy FF16 and don't regret it at all.
@DennisReynolds @PJ5 There has been gameplay footage released of a playable Alan Wake. Devs already came out to say it will be about 50/50 between the two.
My assumption is that the first hour or two of the game will start with Saga. Makes sense too, to start a game of introducing the new character, instead of first playing as Alan Wake and then introducing the new character. Because devs don't want to spoil too much, they often only show footage from the first hours, hence why we're seeing more of Saga.
But aside from all that, I always like it when devs change up main characters for their games. I think it often works in a sequel's favor. Like Big Boss for MGS3, Chloe in Uncharted:LL, Miles Morales in Spider-Man.
1st Alan Wake I liked it when I played it on 360 at the time after the remaster I got it played it for a while then just never felt like getting back into it.
Man, the more I see of this the more I actually want this over Spider-Man; I just love the Lynchian worlds that Remedy create. Just sucks it's digital only; might have to purchase anyway.
@Oz_Momotaro I think they mean "looks" like one of the best; bear in mind there isn't exactly a wealth of current-gen only titles to choose from... at least ones that are this gorgeous to look at.
This does look incredible though. Their Northlight engine is just so lush.
@Kidfried MGS3 is a prequel set in the 60's, Solid wasn't even alive at that point. Uncharted TLL is a spin off and Miles is a spin off plus Miles is Spider-Man. Alan Wake 2 though is that Alan Wake 2 a game people have wanted for over a decade so i can't say i'm thrilled he's no longer the star and that Remedy don't care to even market the game around him, come on if you saw this gameplay without name and context would you know its Alan Wake 2? Of course not. Seems to me Remedy are just using the Alan Wake name to sell a new IP.
@Titntin I miss devs having their own engines. One of the joys of BG3 is seeing their engine evolve and create the Larian look. All the Unreal games have a rather similar look which is disappointing.
@DennisReynolds I agree with most of what you typed but I think this is Remedy being really tight lipped regarding showing too much. It is disappointing that we have not actually seen much Alan.
Also always disappointing when people try to seperate Miles from Spider-Man. The whole point of his character is to show anyone who is ready to handle the responsibility is Spider-Man.
@Powerplay94 I'm thrilled Spider-Man 2 has both Peter and Miles as leads, thing its called Spider-Man 2 meaning it stars Spider-Man, the game isn't called Peter Parker 2 because that would make zero sense if 50% of the time you weren't Peter. Alan Wake 2 should be all about Alan, i've been waiting 13 years to see him again in a proper sequel so yeah i'm kinda p*ssed Remedy has you playing as a new character for half the game and has marketed the game around her not Alan. Sage should have own game or DLC if Remedy feels she's leading worthy like Jesse had Control instead of hijacking Alan's game. I wouldn't be shocked if this game started as its own thing with Sage but midway Remedy got cold feet and so decided to throw in the Alan Wake name to get more buzz.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I'm using ps plus ver ps5 defo. Got the ray tracing on, for double confirmation.
@NeutronBomb i couldnt figure out how to download it at all. Didnt get the choice for a ps5 version 😣 i can download the ultimate edition but in the edition ive got it doesnt mention ps5 at all. In the ultimate edition that is priced at £32 theres a paragraph about the ps5 updates. 60fps, rsy tracing etc.
@Powerplay94 I absolutely agree, more diversity in the engines and toolsets being used would be welcome and allow many other games to establish their own look, like Remedy and Larian.
But I get it, it makes sense to use off the shelf engines like UE and Unity with all their tool sets at your disposal, especially if you are a smaller team. Tbh, it makes a lot of sense for larger teams too!
I remember when renderware first appeared. I used it to prototype a few game concepts easily, but I never imagined the majority of titles would end up being launched using such a tool. Its both a blessing and a curse 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 Say what u want about Xbox, but Smart delivery is where it's at.
@AsterZero The remastered version was terrible, I missed the Duracell and Mitsubishi? commercials. And it also had quite a few graphical glitches as well.
@NeutronBomb yeah imo sony have made it pretty complicated to do something that should be pretty easy imo.
@saffeqwe
"you want them to release it physically so you can sell it later on?"
No, where did I say I wanted to sell it on? That's just assumption on your part.
I want a physical copy as I like owning physical copies of my games, music and film.
I'll buy it when there's a physical release.
