I have 40+ ps1 classics on ps3, So far Sony have allowed me to download 4 of them, they really need to properly invest in getting the majority ported to ps4/ps5 with a dedicated ps1 classic trophy patching team, it'll earn them tons of cash, oodles of kudos and reward their most dedicated and patient fans, I guess it's finally happening but so slowly it's painful

No doubt it'll be awesome, but it better be free to play if it's going to have any chance against the competition

I was really positive about cross-play from the start, but PC players really have a clear advantage and negatively impact the enjoyment console players have. My solution is a simple one; have two cross play options, console (xbox-ps-switch) and console + PC, even then I think PC players using a gamepad should not face mouse and keyboard players, these wasd-warriors are ruining the fun, this plus strict SBMM and the fear your opponent is cheating is causing players to quit

I miss the days when you actually purchased games yourself, instead of wait for a monthly drip feed of random old games you've already got. The only people who benefit from these services are people that don't actually buy games very much at all, leaving your most loyal hardcore fans wondering why they even bother subscribing in the first place

Sony know Microsoft are about to buy the most popular shooter on the planet and put them on gamepass, if this is coupled with a megaton such as ’online play now free for everyone on xbox' then Sony would loose billions, no wonder Jim Ryan is moaning to anybody who will listen. I want an agressive approach from the competition to wake Sony up from their classic 'market leader' complacency.

I'm starting to think they wouldn't work on native ps3 emulation because they thought streaming would sell premium, crazy! all people wanted was some decent ps1 ps2 + psp games with trophies and they can't do that. I don't sub at any level because I own 80% of the games on extra, Microsoft are rumored to be dropping sub requirements for online very soon, if true Sony must accept it needs re think PS+ altogether and make MP free again

The Ps5 really needs a better looking slim model ASAP, Sony generations only ever kick off properly with the slim pro versions

This is a joke, compared to MS reward points it looks like absolute tosh. I don't have an xbox but I still earn about 10 quid a month on their system (which I use for cloud gaming on PC) by simply using bing instead of google and clicking a few links each day, if you want you can even redeem MS points for amazon gift cards! Sorry sony keep your digital tat and measly 'stars' it's not even worth the effort

You can play warhawk online right now! dedicated nerds have restarted private servers, google 'psone emulated servers warhawk' dig out your ps3 and get playing tonight, it's still a blast all these years later

Battlefield is stuck in the past, the competition is better and free! They need to look at apex, warzone, pubg and fortnite. Firestorm had potential but was squandered on a WW2 setting and locked behind a purchase, 2042 was so bad it nearly killed the franchise. Time to make the next one F2P, win back some good will and give CoD some competition again

Sony need to realise that microsoft now have the more powerful console at a cheaper price (globally) and now owns the worlds most popular game series/developers. It's clear we are finally seeing MS use their vast wealth and unmatchable profits as a company to stich up the market. We always knew this would happen, it was always a matter of time. Sony should be really worried, they have incredible devs and games but MS is in the business of creating and maintaining monopolies. Sony can't afford to loose what little good will they have when going up against the largest company on earth

Sony have handed a massive advantage to microsoft, who now have the more powerful and cheaper console than the competition. I think this was a big mistake on par with xbox attempting to raise gold prices, I expect a back-lash as this spreads, really awful news that will go down like a lead balloon, Jim Ryan has got to go

It's too late for Sony to save the sanctity of trophies! They don't have to ban shovel ware games outright, just not allow them to have platinums, but clearly they stopped caring at some point and are happy to see their awards system trashed. They may make a few bucks here and there, but true trophy hunters are getting disillusioned and giving up altogether, losing money and fans in the long run, bad strat

Europe never got this game as a ps1 classic, I had to make a US account just to buy it! If I can re-download this gem and get a platinum on ps4/ps5 then I will forgive Sony for it's lacklustre approach to backwards compatibility for the last 9 years

Pretty sure outside influences have a bigger impact on well being and happiness. With global pandemics, economic free fall and war going on I for one am glad gaming exists as a distraction

They should follow the halo model, release Killzone 5 with a standalone F2P multiplayer

The success of this program hinges on the ability to earn enough points each month to keep subscriptions going a bit like a battlepass, MS already do this as diligent point hunters can perpetually keep game pass going by redeeming monthly rewards, a cool idea that seriously drives engagement. Sony also needs to understand that retro active rewards are important for their most loyal customers, how about a free week (or even better a month) of PS+ for each platinum you own at launch? People won't feel good about future challenges unless previous ones are recognized and the rewards are worth it

I'm really excited to see how many psp games end up on ps4/ps5, I bought a ton of amazing games on that beast, would love FF 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 and war of the lions on my big screen (vita tv won't play them) Vita games also need to happen

An incredible gem of an JRPG, Lenneth has multiple moving stories with heavy themes and deep characters, super satisfying combat and one of my all time favourite lead protagonists. It deserves a full re-master but I will take a port anyday, play it and unlock the good ending!

It's important that this re-launch doesn't require PS+ to play online. Overwatch players on console got stuck with subscriptions and full price tag. Overwatch 2 is free but will never catch up to Fortnite / Warzone popularity levels unless It's a brand new client that's fully F2P with cross play

Hope they made it fun this time! Doubt many people will buy it when it already failed as a free game.. Never played anything so utterly confusing and boring before. Also you'll probably need PS+ for online now so the community will be much much smaller, a little surprised they are even bothering tbh

I can't believe it's taken an entire generation to finally start giving us basic Ps1 back compat that should've been available at the ps4 launch. And still even after 9 years they are making schoolboy errors with aspect ratios and PAL versions.. Sheesh! Please don't abandon this project Sony! Invest in your legacy and people will believe you care about your history, not just earning a quick buck from lazy ports

If they can honour Ps1 classic purchases by checking your download list, the same should be possible for digital Ps3 games. Let people stream the games they bought digitaly without a subscription and we'll forgive the lack of native cell emulation!

I was really pessimistic about the service as it's clear hardcore fans would likely own most of the games the subscription offers, but it's not aimed at the core it's aimed at the casual mass market. Ps1 back compat with trophies is what's got the PS-pervs salivating! Pretty smart to please both types of fan

Would love to see those re-vamped Ps1 classics go on sale! I want Ape Escape & Wild Arms downloaded on my PSP, Vita, PS3, PS4 and someday soon - PS5 simultaneously. I'm a sucker for nostalgia (and trophies of course)

Whoa this is big news! If I really can download most of my old ps1 classic collection, play at better frame rates & resolution with save states AND earn trophies without needing to subscribe then all is forgiven Jim Ryan!!!

Wowzers! i've been pretty down on sony recently but allowing us to play our old games is better news than I was expecting! Glad they realised our old collections are the reason backwards compatibility should exist in the first place

Man Genshin was addictive stuff, was hooked for 3 months straight but kicked the habit before spending any real money, this looks like another intoxicating mix to fall into, just pray there's less gambling and fomo mechanics that sap the fun out of the whole experience

Well if they kill off legit ways to buy vita games it's open season for hackers. The day they close the store is the day I finally mod my vita-TV ! I have never felt the need until recently when Sony decided that my entire PS1 PS2 PS3 PSP/ Vita collection will be stranded on aging hardware and will never work on future PlayStations, not to mention the countless digital legacy games forever lost to history with the coming store closures.

I never emulate PlayStation games because I have spent literally thousands on ps1 ps2 ps3 psp/vita games and therefore own every single game I care about. But locking classics behind the most expensive paywall AND planning to close the ps3/vita store AND not even trying to implement an official ps3 emulator makes me think that PC is the way to go for retro gaming. Hell an xbox-s/x with dev mode/retroarch is doing PS back compat better than Sony! What a Joke...

Thanks to enterprising tech wizards i'm currently playing Killzone 2 and Resistance online despite Sony turning off the official servers! Rather than shutdown these games they should open them up to community support and let the fans keep them alive if they want to

All I wanted was to be able to play the 40+ classics I have already purchased. All I expect from Sony is the ability to rent a catalogue of games I already bought. Back compat is basic functionality not a 'premium' feature. Really disappointed that their solution is pay us again, but this time ad infintum!

Would much prefer Mania 2, I'm still wondering why Sega won't make a 2D Sonic Maker, i'd love to make / share / play community levels

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk looks like the Jet Set Radio 3 we never got. As a massive Dreamcast fan i'm kinda scared Sega will ruin their iconic IP with nft/mtx nonsense but we need new games in these franchises full stop! Hell i'd settle for a HD remaster of Jet Set Future for PlayStation consoles as that one was xbox exclusive. Don't really see how Crazy Taxi + Jet Set fit the live service model though, well see I guess

The future of multiplayer is live service, but more importantly free to play. If Battlefield 2042, Babylons Fall, and Anthem teach us anything it's that people don't want to pay full price for live service multiplayer focused titles. Fortnite / Warzone changed the game, we can't go back.. Personally i'd love a F2P Killzone or Resistance but only if they don't abandon their singleplayer focus generally

Lets be real, they should've been working on this since the launch of ps4, it's not happening, what shocks me is that they didn't utilize ps now to allow players the chance to stream their old ps3 games they bought digitally! I don't care if they are streamed or not I just want sony to register I have bought catherine digitally for ps3, therefore I should be able to stream it on ps4/5 through ps now without paying another damn sub. Surely that's easier than ground up cell emulation?

When you are the top dog why try harder right? Well maybe because your competition is offering proper backwards compatibility, a more powerfull machine, and a better value subscription! Dammit Sony you are making microsoft look consumer friendly and in-touch! That's how bad it is...

I really don't get how sony will release hardware that'll play vita games on a big screen (PSvita TV) but not even attempt to add that ability to it's more powerful machines. No doubt sony will turn off the ps3 - vita store servers in a few years in a deluded push to make punters stump up for 'premium'. Every year the big 3 make crazy decisions that make PC gaming more and more attractive, why?

Why on earth they think classic games are a premium feature is beyond me. This news just ensures ps3s across the globe will stay hooked up in perpetuity and playstation piracy will remain rampant on PC. I just wanted the microsoft approach not this nintendo style nonsense. Hugely dissapointed and worried about the future of PS game preservation

It appears they completely botched back compat, only people celebrating this news are xbox & maybe the emulation groups ie duckstation, pcsx2 etc. What an own goal... MS is laughing at us right now
