I hope they make it F2P rather than just shut it down, bizarrely when they made base destiny 2 free to play it still required PS+ to team up with your buddies! total own goal there, and the main reason most people play D2 on PC or xbox these days, they must avoid that mistake for marathon if they want a decent playerbase

Enthusiasts and hobbyists making sony look ridiculous. Playstation should've hired these RPCS3 lads years ago. I seriously think they choose not to work on back compat to force people to buy new games only, people only playing their backlogs are not good for business I guess

So the only possible benefit to these ports (less hackers) is no longer a thing? At least your old ps3 discs don't require PS+ to play! What a joke, and what's worse is these ports all but confirm that we will never get proper official PS3 back compat. Just a lazy smattering of ports we all played before

You didn't list free online play as a PC benefit, that is probably the biggest draw for me (and many many others)

If they don't work out and announce a way to make our ps4 and ps5 discs convert to digital licences fast they are going to torpedo their brand so hard it'll make those early PS3 sales look like hot cakes

This aint the sony I fell in love with, I really miss Kaz Hirai / Andy House / Jack Tretton, Shuhei Yoshida, Adam Boyes... They actually seemed to care about making Playstation the best place to play. Greed is going to be Sony's downfall

This is as bad as the Xbone always online DRM debacle. It's the exact same tactic - no internet? we have an offline console - it's called the ps5!... the future is an all digital, dynamically priced monopoly? No thanks! I almost quit playstation for PC when they announced multiplayer was no longer free on ps4, but their stance on discs and DRM kept me loyal. But now, after 1000+ games, 332 platinums, 10+ makes and models of PS - That loyalty is in the toilet and I'm about to hit the flush

It's really over boys, no more lending games to your mates, no more trade ins, no more mom & pop 2nd hand game shops, no more fully offline play... They did this 2 generations too early

I think a lot of ps5 players are going to be underwhelmed when they blast through a campaign that was designed 25 years ago in about 5 or 6 hrs, really needed a solid multiplayer mode to guarantee decent sales...

There was practically zero hype for PS6 even before the 4 figure price rumours and horrendous murder of physical ownership, I think they have massively overstepped, they will do OK for a while due to GTA6 and early adopters with a lot of cash (I mean look at Apple, they sell at insane prices with tiny upgrades to a rabid audience), but they will almost certainly lose the casual to mid-tier markets, developing markets, markets where internet is bad.. I predict a major crash in the industry as we move into the 2030s. Might finally be time to work through our backlogs and pray our old machines hold out!

I'm not even sure that full ps3 backwards compatibility and free online play will save ps6 if they follow through with this, and let's be honest those two things are a pipe dream

I forgave Sony for overpricing the ps3, I forgave them for removing back compat on ps3, I forgave them for giving up on Vita, I forgave them for not implementing ps3 back compat on ps4, I even forgave them for charging a subscription for online play on ps4 (though that was almost the straw that broke the camels back), I even forgave them rising the price of ps5 as it aged... But this is too much, they've finally done it, they've pushed me into buying a gaming PC and giving up on Playstation completely, Sony keep your $1000 gimped PC, your exclusives suck now anyway

Successful live service games are almost always free to play and do not require PS+ to play online, if Sony keep trying to charge for these games AND require PS+ to even enjoy , they will continue to fail miserably

My launch day ps4 somehow still runs on the spare TV, but it sounds like a Harrier jump jet that's about to explode

I bought destiny 1... went free to play. I bought destiny 2... went free to play, I am not buying a 3rd Bungie game knowing full well it'll be free to play in less than a year

whole game shoulda been F2P, at least PC players don't get caught out with infinite online access charge and silly Sony mistakes like this

The fact PS+ is not required (when it was during the beta) shows bungie understands that online pay-to-play models on consoles is seriously hampering console sales, everyone is buying the PC version, much like helldivers 2, why buy an inferior version that requires and endless subscription to play when you can just buy the PC version and just pay once?

I know people love ps4, but for me ps3 was the GOAT, aside from graphics, ps4 and ps5 have been worse in so many ways

PS+ has to be separated from online multiplayer / cloud saves, I buy and play all my multiplayer games on PC now, it's ridiculous PC players are buying and playing the exact same games as console players, but don't have to pay a penny to play with others. cross-play is making a mockery of pay-walled online and more and more people everyday are getting fed up of subscription overload

Cmon xbox... Drop your online pay system and force sony to do the same. We are all tired of this subscription lifestyle

Multiplayer should go free, people have built enormous PS+ libraries that people will pay to keep access to, so not that many would even cancel their subs even if MP went free. Xbox is also likely dropping the pay-wall next gen, it will be fascinating to watch if stubborn sony tries to keep their pay-wall or drop it to deflate xbox's advantage

nobody really cares much about all these indie rental games you'd never buy yourself, it's a multiplayer tax for most people. All I can say is I hope and pray the steam machine and next xbox have free online and therefore forces sony into ditching this pay-to-play model that is the bane of console gaming that continually pushes more and more people to PC

Their sales have been too big lately (2000+ titles?!) with a ton of AI slop easy plat shove ware clogging up the store, I literally have give up searching through them. Just wishlist a handful of games you really want and check that each week, only way to stay sane

Sony needs to realise charging for online play isn't going to fly when machines like the Gabe Cube & Helix are ditching the whole pay-to-play model altogether

I'd much rather they just stopped allowing AI slop / asset flip easy platinum shovel ware from being published on their store. A UI redesign isn't going to help when they allow all that junk to choke up the store and spoil the trophy system. Personally I'd love a 'never show me this game again' button, but that'll never happen

I still think the original cross media bar was the ultimate simple clean UI, ps4 was a downgrade, ps5 even more so. It really seems like form beats function with todays UI designers, who cares if it's impractical if it looks good and displays your dashboard ads in 4K

In my opinion this is the online subscription effect, if you have a decent PC you'd be dumb to get the console version, PS+ or GamePass is mandatory to enjoy marathon on console, where PC players can pay once, get more graphical options and still have the same playerbase with cross play!

Got the platinum and instantly deleted it, still the same old excellent control system and nice seamless multiplayer, but everything else worse than than skate 3

I just hope that having both valve and microsoft push hybrid PCs as the main competition - Sony will re-think requiring a subscription for online. The multiplayer tax will look ridiculous when your competitors offer the same service for free

I don't buy multiplayer only games on console anymore, having to pay an upfront cost for a game and then pay a subscription to access it never sat right with me

It's really a terrible oversight, trophies can sell games as proven by the atrocious 5 minute platinum shovel ware clogging up the store. I was really looking forward to earning 4 classic Resi plats on both the ps4 / ps5 versions, it's a huge draw for the hardcore fans... These are truly seminal genre defining classics that deserve respect and have amazing trophy potential , yet no one at capcom can take the time to implement a simple trophy list that other much smaller games can manage? Poor show capcom, poor show indeed

Really promising demo with great art design, graphics and cyberpunk vibes, but the controls felt weird with strange cancels and delays. If they fixed how it feels to play on controller this will be awesome shooter I'm sure

since when has implementing peer to peer functionality or adding a bot mode been prohibitively expensive? Most of the time, revived games are brought back to life by a few hobbyist fans in their spare time, all we are asking is let the community do it's thing

What I found was particularly egregious was that it wasn't just always online, you also needed an active PS+ subscription to play anything! multiplayer sub needed just to play the campaign alone!

Must play? 80% are shovel ware for no-dignity platinum hunters, the other 20% are decent games that almost everyone owns (bloodborne / god of war etc) The lack of quality control on PSN is drowning the good games in a sea of dross

Nice that's 2 more platinums patched in, but sony really need to stop drip feeding us games and turn on the tap with their classic catalogue, currently I own 5 ps1 classics on ps4 / ps5, but over 40 on ps3, why is it taking so long?

I'm hoping they honour previous ps2 classic purchases like they did with previous ps1 classic purchases, I bought some bangers back in the day on ps3 - persona 3 and 4, GTA liberty / Vice city stories, the warriors, bully, katamari damacy. Give me my old collection with trophies and I'll buy many many more, and bring us disc support!

Anyone with a ps3 should buy G-Police on there, it's 6 quid cheaper and still gets you the ps4 / ps5 versions

We are still in the dark days of pay walled multiplayer and gaming as a service, these mega corporations need to understand we have too many subscriptions. I prefer owning my collection, not renting access to someone elses collection.

I'm annoyed with Rockstar for another lazy port, but i'm more annoyed with Sony for it's lack of effort on backwards compatibility. RPCS3 is proof the cell chip can be emulated well, but Sony love re-selling you your collection. We're lucky ps5 plays ps4 games to be honest.

Resistance 4 with a seperate F2P multiplayer for everyone would be epic, hell i'd settle for a Resistance trilogy remastered. Why Sony has forsaken Killzone & Resistance I will never know

It's great news we're getting our old purchased classics with added trophies, just a shame we needed US accounts to buy them and then wait a decade for sony to port them! Well better late than never I guess

Legend of dragoon is the highlight, probably with trophies! glad they are honoring ps1 classic purchases made so long ago, but this drip feed of 1 or 2 classics every few months is way too slow
