'We All Want Skate to Be Great': Skate Dev Pledges Improvements After Early Access Launch Issues 1

After years of campaigning for Skate 4, fans of EA's skateboarding series got their wish with the simply named Skate — a free-to-play entry that launched in early access in September.

It's attracted millions of players, and it seems that the influx of players has caused some headaches for developer Full Circle.

In a blog post addressing the whole community, the dev team shares its gratitude for the "support, feedback and passion", but that it's "also here for the tough love".

"Things have not gone as smoothly for some of you as we would have liked. A lot more (we’re talking millions) players joined us in these first few weeks than we expected - and with that came bugs, glitches, progression locks, and performance issues."

Acknowledging some of the early access issues seen so far, Full Circle promises it'll be smoothing out the experience over time, while stressing that this isn't the final game yet.

"Making skate. is a balancing act between delivering the fresh content from our roadmap, improving the overall player experience, and addressing your live feedback," the blog post reads. "We’re tweaking and fixing the game - some of it on the fly, and some of it as part of longer-term improvements. But, things will continue to change and improve."

Chief among the problems players have been facing are softlock and progression blocking bugs, and it seems these are a priority for the team — though some fixes will come sooner than others.

In addition to fixing technical troubles, the team says it's "still tuning progression and rewards until they feel just right", and is making changes when Season 2 drops to make the season pass less grindy and provide better, more generous rewards.

By way of apology for the bumpy launch period, Full Circle is giving all players "2000 Tix and 500 SVBs" — though you'll need to log in before Season 2 starts on 2nd December to claim them.

It all sounds like a step in the right direction; hopefully the team can act quickly enough and implement the right feedback to keep players engaged.
