After years of campaigning for Skate 4, fans of EA's skateboarding series got their wish with the simply named Skate — a free-to-play entry that launched in early access in September.
It's attracted millions of players, and it seems that the influx of players has caused some headaches for developer Full Circle.
In a blog post addressing the whole community, the dev team shares its gratitude for the "support, feedback and passion", but that it's "also here for the tough love".
"Things have not gone as smoothly for some of you as we would have liked. A lot more (we’re talking millions) players joined us in these first few weeks than we expected - and with that came bugs, glitches, progression locks, and performance issues."

Acknowledging some of the early access issues seen so far, Full Circle promises it'll be smoothing out the experience over time, while stressing that this isn't the final game yet.
"Making skate. is a balancing act between delivering the fresh content from our roadmap, improving the overall player experience, and addressing your live feedback," the blog post reads. "We’re tweaking and fixing the game - some of it on the fly, and some of it as part of longer-term improvements. But, things will continue to change and improve."
Chief among the problems players have been facing are softlock and progression blocking bugs, and it seems these are a priority for the team — though some fixes will come sooner than others.
In addition to fixing technical troubles, the team says it's "still tuning progression and rewards until they feel just right", and is making changes when Season 2 drops to make the season pass less grindy and provide better, more generous rewards.
By way of apology for the bumpy launch period, Full Circle is giving all players "2000 Tix and 500 SVBs" — though you'll need to log in before Season 2 starts on 2nd December to claim them.
It all sounds like a step in the right direction; hopefully the team can act quickly enough and implement the right feedback to keep players engaged.

I find it OK. The skating is good but the off board stuff is not. The multiplayer lobby structure is actually very good, it’s nice skating around with randoms. Soundtrack is great too. The missions aren’t very good however, the monetisation is a bit crap too and the dialogue is pretty turgid. The removal of the Hall of Meat and the bone breaks and stuff removes about 90% of the fun of Skate 3 too. I dunno, it’s alright but it just isn’t as good as the older games.

lol the way the devs talk they act like bugs, glitches, progression locks, and performance issues aren’t on single player games as well 😂🙄😂🙄😂
Summary: WE WAS NOT READY, BUT RELEASED REGARDLESS 🙄🤑🤑🤑🤑🙄👀
Top Priority: Gotta make sure the microtransactions work 😂😂😂😂

Definitely makes me think they're trying to cater to younger kids. Also would explain why they went with that ugly fortnite artstyle.
Played it when it first came out and wasn't a fan. This, along with THPS 3+4 has made it a disappointing year for skating games.
Still waiting for skate 4, EA.
They didn’t listen to everyone’s concerns during early access & many of the problems were issues raised back then.
It doesn’t feel like it was made for skaters or fans of the original games.
It’s made for the Fortnite generation that are used to being nickel & dimed with subpar cosmetics & level design.
While the mechanics are great, the flat maps, missing game modes & tricks from the last 3 games, single player campaign & refusal to embrace skate culture make it easy to get bored after a couple of hours.
I’ve gone back to playing Skate 3 on the steam deck because it’s just more fun.
@pukana It pretty accurately captures the culture of people who hang out at the skate park and take selfies for Instagram.
I wanted to like it. But it's not made by people that have any idea about the scene. Like at all.
No skater ever would listen to an AI bot. And the city looks like a bought 3D template without any vibe.
This is definitely one of those online open world games where the online feels very forced and unnecessary but they force it anyways just to make it a total live services game. By making it live services it also feels just so soulless and passionless. I would so much rather just have an offline experience with real pros and some actual progression like the first 3 titles.
In this it's like you never feel like you're making any actual progression because all the missions and goals just rotate and refresh all the time, so you just wind up doing the same things over and over again. Seems obvious how the whole game seems to revolve around grinding away for virtual funny money to spend on loot boxes and cosmetics. Thing is after getting some basic decent gear for my skater, it feels like I no longer have anything to play towards unless I still want to play skater dress-up.
Well how much is EA going to allow or restrict, that's always been the case from the start it's why the game leadership wise is the direction it is, that was clear why it took so long and what is in the structure it is compared to prior Skate games (as much as I understand and not played much of Skate 3 I got cheap randomly), and how much is it the target audience while the other skating game alternatives have their benefits and audiences as well.
@Can-You-Believe-Sith calm down with the emojis grandpa
@Nepp67 Ironically removing bones and hall of meat kinda makes it less kid friendly. Skateboarding is dangerous and people get hurt. Having your character get hurt in a skate game actually shows kids that you should be careful when on the board irl. To not go and jump off of buildings n stuff that you can't actually handle
@AinsleyE THPS 3&4 was fine the only thing that was disappointing was that they didn't do the story mode stuff but in my opinion that's not that big of a deal. I played the og growing up and some of the jokes said back then couldn't be said these days lol
The game is legitimately everything wrong with modern gaming all wrapped up into one package. Besides the flick it system which they didn't even really make, everything in this game is terrible. They should honestly feel like total failures. This game is pathetically bad and won't last long.
@Toxxikk you mean you can make the jokes but people will complain about getting their feelings hurt.
