Re: Soapbox: Sometimes, the Best Games Are the Simplest

JJ-firl

For me, the appeal in a lot of these games is straightforward objectives and satisfying progress. I think it's very difficult to make a game that is easy to get into but keeps providing just the right challenge that makes you want to master it without becoming too frustrating.

@Quintumply It's great that you mentioned Hitman in the article beacause it's so unique. Usually I have one 'main' game going on (a big action/adventure/RPG) with a couple of side games ready to dive in anytime. When I first started playing Hitman I approached it as a 'main' game but the way it's designed I find it more enjoyable to have it on the side and fire it up whenever I feel like. Basically I play it more like I play a racing game or a fighting game - Clear some tracks in Trackmania Turbo - Work through a Multiverse ladder in Injustice 2 - Take on a few escalation contracts in Hitman -. Short and satisfying sessions!

Re: Sony to Cease Production of Physical PS Vita Games

@MadAussieBloke Enjoy! Seems like a very solid deal. You won’t regret it.

I think now is the perfect time to purchase a Vita if you’re interested in getting one. Here in Belgium, game stores have no interest in buying your Vita so a lot of people offering a ‘Used PS Vita, barely touched’ for 90-150 euros (depending on the extras you’re getting) bit I can imagine the prices going up in time.

I’m actually considering buying a second one as a back-up but maybe that’s a bit crazy 😉. Maybe if I find a good deal with some physical games included in my neighbourhood...

Re: Soapbox: PS Vita's Longevity Has Been Quite Remarkable

@Rob_230 @JoeBlogs I prefer Armspin style because you only find gun modules in the side rooms so you can stack up on HP and charges. Shops are rare so you save the gems you get from killing enemies to buy HP in the shops when they do appear. And, indeed, the sooner you can get knife and fork the better.

The final boss is really something else, though! Once you figure out his attack pattern you can anticipate but it took me countless efforts to beat him. And then, when you think you mastered the game, there is hard mode to kick you and your gunboots back to the ground.

Such an addictive, unforgiving little game...

Really enjoying Rayman Origins on the Vita so very happy with Legends. I’m sure it will deliver as well.

Two Souls seems to divide opinion so I’ll take the opportunity and try it myself some time.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think About Remasters?

JJ-firl

All my gaming happens on the PS4 and I love having a mix of new releases and enhanced classics.

Some invoke pure nostalgia (Oddworld new ‘n’ tasty takes me back to my childhood), others give me the chance to (re)play masterpieces (SOTC / R&C) and others fill a void in the library (Burnout Paradise providing that arcade euphoria rush and Borderlands: THC providing 4 player split screen madness).

Whether you like them or not, I think it’s great that they are on offer!

Definitely picking this up at some point.

Just got the plat for Aven Colony so I’m taking a break from colonizing planets for a while. I’m sure my appetite will come back soon, though.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn Comes Top in Two Categories at DICE Awards 2018

Guerilla can be very proud of their achievement. They left their comfort zone and created nothing less than a masterpiece.
The fact that their new IP won Technical and Story proves the excellence in both aspects of the game.

Injustice 2's focus on presentation and the huge amount of content payed off. Every fighting game is different and personally I prefer the fighting of some other titles but you'll never hear me say that Injustice 2 didn't deserve this award because it's the best overall package on the market.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 207

JJ-firl

@Bonbonetti You’re absolutely right, it looks as if the game was designed to play with a controller. I also love how straightforward and intuitive the gameplay is.

I haven’t played any of the games you mentioned but I bought Tropico 5 a while ago. Haven’t started it yet but the review here says the controls translate pretty well to the PS4. I played Tropico 4 on the PC and liked it a lot! More emphasis on politics, trade, diplomacy...

I love these kind of games, very happy to see them finding their way to home consoles.

Re: February PlayStation Plus Games Announced

@themcnoisy Cheers to that! Another reason for a drink today as of tomorrow dry februari (here in Belgium we call it Tournée Minerale) starts.

Next up? I’m with -hope I do it right - BLOOOOOOOOOOODBOOOOOOOOORNE!!!
