That is stunning! This game seems right up my street (though I’ve been mainlining Yakuza series recently so the western voices in this video seem somewhat incongruous!)
This is looking totally batcrap crazy fun - just what I’d expect from the Yakuza series. As long as the plot is suitably epic it’ll be a winner (Ichiban hasn’t really grabbed me as a protagonist yet though, he seems a bit ‘Kiryu-lite’ rather than a fresh new character - even his outfit is so similar!)
Just finishing up Y4 on PS3 so interesting to see the comparison. Great that we’re getting these in the West - remasters might not have the same punch as the Kiwami treatment but having updated versions of the whole series available on one console is bound to boost sales and increase the fandom and that can only be a good thing 👍🏻
I don't have any knowledge of feudal Japan but that wouldn't stop me buying a western release of Ishin in no time flat! I'm more than happy to do a bit of research to understand more if it was necessary - I'm fairly sure most folks look up extra info on our various favourite games anyway so c'mon SEGA!
Yeessss! Happy person right here! I was fairly certain the remasters would come West eventually but having loved 0, Kiwami, & K2 I couldn't wait when I saw 4, 5, and Dead Souls for PS3 in one of PSNs many sales for under £12 total (I'd grabbed an old disc of 3) so I could play through the story in order. At least by the time the last of the 'Collection' is released next year I'll be ready to start at 0 and play them all through again in glorious PS4ness 😁
Great interview 👍🏻 I’m a late comer to the Yakuza series but am totally a fan so Judgement will be a welcome addition to my gaming backlog. It’ll be interesting to play with an English dub as I’ve really enjoyed the Japanese audio of the main series. I suspect I’ll stick with that overall but will definitely give Greg and the other actors a listen too as it’s obvious they’ve made a real effort to capture the feel of the game.
I would buy the hell out of those! Persona 4 is one of my all time faves (I still have a PS2 with the disc for full on nostalgia playthroughs) and Golden has pride of place on my Vita 😁
Yakuza Kiwami 2 - I indulged in Zero and Kiwami pretty much back to back but thought I’d save this one for a while (in the vain hope of the 3,4,&5 remasters making their West sometime soon so I can work my way through to Song of Life) but decided it’s time for some more Kiryu -chan! 😁
Certainly sounds an ambitious project for future gaming. It'll be incredible if they can make it work and, most importantly, support it properly during the early years as I think this is going to be something that will take several years to develop into what they envisage. Sadly it’s not for me though, I’d much rather own (or more realistically long term rent in the case of digital downloads) a full complete game that I can play whenever I want and that will work even if no internet connection. I hope PlayStation will continue to put out high quality single player offline games for gaming dinosaurs like me! 🦖
It’ll be interesting to see what they have lined up but I already feel a bit of an outsider in the world of modern gaming - I think I’m gonna admit to being too old to keep up! I’ve been gaming since I was 9 and have now hit my 40s. PlayStation in all its incarnations has been my mainstay and there are more than enough games to last me until I’m a senile old buffer. I’m ok with digital games backed up to hard drive but am concerned that games are now too often incomplete or rely on online connectivity that as well as being affected by internet availability elements can be seemingly be removed at whim by publishers/platforms. Streaming raises even more concerns for me - reliability, security, etc and if this is where Google are headed (as seems likely) then I think I’ll just watch from the sidelines; whilst playing Tekken 3 on my PS1 😁
I should be starting up Assassins Creed Odyssey but it’s been a rough week so I’m feeling the need for the gaming equivalent of comfort food so it’s off to Thedas again for some Dragon Age Inquisition - I’ve already got the Platinum but there’s a couple of trials trophies left to pin down so that’s a good excuse as any for a replay!
This is looking more and more impressive! I do love the Japanese audio (with subtitles) in previous Yakuza titles as it just sounds so right, but the amount of effort and detail the team are putting into this new offering to get the dual languages right means fans of both audio can enjoy it even more.
Great to hear that this is Devil May Cry as it should be! I picked the original up pre-owned on a whim years back; I knew nothing about it and was blown away. Even though my combat skills leave a lot to be desired I’ve remained a fan (I’ve even played DMC2 more than once 😁). Was unimpressed by the reboot so a return to form is a joy - it’ll be hitting my console just as soon as my budget permits.
Congratulations folks! Since discovering PushSquare it’s been my go to for gaming news and the quality of reviews has helped me try new games I would otherwise have missed out on 👍🏻 Plus it’s somewhere where it’s safe to read the comment section! 😁 Keep it up! ⭐️
Ah GamesMaster! The excitement over each new issue, all those memories. But I have to confess I haven’t bought a games mag in years. Part of it is a natural, gradual change to online (just as with game purchases) but I also think that as I’ve aged I’ve moved away from things, or been pulled away, probably all that serious real world stuff gets in the way, which is a shame. I will be sad to see it go but pleased that the staff are to be redeployed in house.
I’ve been tempted by Layers of Fear so many times as it looks fantastic but I’ve just never got into horror as a genre for films or games (though I did read everything by James Herbert in my teens). Reckon it’s about time to give in and give it a try though, even if I do need to play it with the lights on 😁
Hmm... I suppose I could be tempted to change mine as I tried a bit too hard to be clever when I first set it up so it doesn’t feel as genuine as my user ID here, but I’ve had it for years now and I’ve just got accustomed to it. It’s a bit trying-to-be-cool-but-failing, but I guess that’s a reasonable description of me anyway! (it’s LadyChatsalot for those of you wanting a good chuckle 😁)
Great review. I’ve never really clicked with the Assassins Creed series, despite a few attempts to get into the earlier games, but this one sounds like it needs to go on my ‘to buy’ list.
Picked up Puppeteer via PS Plus with no knowledge or expectations of the game and was thoroughly charmed by it. 😀 Would love to see a PS4 sequel or similar, and even though it would suit VR I’d love a straightforward version for those of us unable to invest in the tech.
Nothing immediately jumps out at me but I’ll have a closer look as sometimes a random monthly game turns out to be a lot of fun. In any event I’ve still got a Plus backlog and have already enjoyed enough titles this year to make the membership worth it so I’m not gonna grumble.
Everything is better with Troy Baker 😄 I love the fact that several trailers in I still have no idea what this game is about or how it plays! I do get fed up with hearing too much detail about games way in advance of release - I love being surprised by games; yes sometimes you get disappointed but nothing beats the wow feeling of discovering something amazing as you play.
Hmm... wasn’t expecting this gameplay mechanic, and it’s immediately put me off as virtual chores aren’t exactly an enticing sales pitch. Will keep an open mind and see how it reviews but it’s no longer a day one purchase.
Given that I’ve still got a PS1 - primarily for Tekken 3, surely one of the most enjoyable games ever, and Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone, another old fave - means I don’t exactly need one of these, but of course that doesn’t mean I won’t get one anyway at some point!
Wow, that’s one lengthy lineup. I just can’t keep up with all the amazing games coming our way. I’m a longtime PlayStation gamer and feel constantly rewarded with so many quality titles and exclusives.
I liked the concept of the original but got too irritated with the puzzle sections so it ended up on the ‘will have another go at this later’ pile and is still there. This version is sounding like a really interesting take so I’ll be giving it a go.
Still utterly engrossed in Yakuza 0 so nothing else is getting much of a look in. Reckon I must’ve spent 10+ hours this week just playing the koi koi minigame!
On a very tight budget just now but I really needed a treat this week so luckily managed to grab Yakuza 0 for a tenner. It’s batcrap crazy, but totally awesome.
Just wanted to pop in and thank @ShogunRok for bringing the Yakuza series to my attention - just grabbed this entry in one of the (seemingly endless) PSN sales and it’s bonkers, but brilliant! If you’re wanting to try something totally unlike anything else you’ve ever played then this could be the game for you.
’Reroll’ definitely sounds like a good name for a remaster (though I wouldn’t say no to a compilation either!) Such a fun series - it’d be cool to revisit on PS4.
Haven’t played anything in the Dragon Quest series before but this sounds like it might be just the kind of game I need right now. Will have to see how far I can stretch my budget...
Wow, that’s a helluva selection. Already played GOW3 remastered but traded it in so this freebie will be a handy addition to my rainy day library. Never really been interested in Destiny 2 but this is too good an opportunity to miss, gives me a chance to see what the game feels like (suspect it’s not my thing but that’s the great thing about the monthly Plus games - they’re a great chance to try games outside your usual taste without risk). Will enjoy exploring some of the other offerings too.
Appreciate the explanation- it’s this kind of professionalism that keeps me visiting Push Square as my main source of gaming info. It’s obvious you all take pride in putting out quality content, and that is well worth any occasional review delay. 👍🏻
Should be good fun - the Batman and Harry Potter instalments were excellent couch co-op (haven’t really bothered much with other entries so should be nicely rested from the standard Lego format to enable me to enjoy this one)
Allriiiiight! Loving this, really seems to have captured some of the original Devil May Cry magic - OTT action and cheesy one liners. Looks like Dante’s rocking a little bit of Geralt style grizzle, and rocking it well 😄
@huyi alas my willpower is weak and it’s probably only a matter of hours before I cave and some irresistible bargains find their way into my shopping cart 😄
@bonbonetti I’m late to the Saints too, not sure how I overlooked them but it was a lovely surprise to get stuck into the series and have so much fun - I agree about the trend for dark and serious; there’s nothing wrong with that but a bit of silly too works wonders. Just nabbed SR2&3 in the Summer of Plus sale to catch up!
I don’t know if I dare look - it’s taken all my willpower to avoid temptation of double discounts in the Summer of Plus sale! (though I couldn’t resist grabbing Saints Row 2&3 full editions - that’s a helluva lot of content for just over a fiver). Must. Resist. Must. Resist. Must.... I’ll just have a quick look, honest.
Missed the early rounds as they were before I became a regular reader but joined in with a few votes where I felt I had a fair awareness of both characters and overall it’s been good fun and I’d happily join in from the start for a new one - perhaps something a little more restricted, either by console gen or genre, would bring out some interesting choices, especially for those of us old enough to remember back to PSOne days 😀 Nice work @ShogunRok, look forward to the next one, when you’ve recovered! 👍🏻
Having a blast with Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding for sure. Days Gone looking interesting too. Such a great line up, for me Sony always deliver the best exclusives and a huge roster of games right up my street.
