After watching this new Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7 in Japan) gameplay video, we're happy to report that our hype levels have gone through the roof. Not only does the video highlight the game's all-new turn based combat system, it also showcases character classes (!), kart racing (!!), and a ridiculous minigame in which protagonist Ichiban must stay awake in a cinema by warding off men with sheep heads (!!!).
It looks like Yakuza's madness turned up to 11. And yes, as director and Yakuza godfather Toshihiro Nagoshi has said previously, this battle system is completely different from what you'd find in a traditional role-playing title. As you can see from the video, it's fluid and completely crazy, boasting all kinds of dynamic actions.
You can find an extended look at combat below:
We simply can't wait to get our hands on this one.

Why they have gamble automats? Don't tell me they will roll in microtransactions
Wow, I am unbelievably hyped now, this game looks MASSIVE! I’m so glad I was right about the movement during battles opening up area-based special moves such as the cars. It makes the fighting have that extra bit of strategy.
The moves look cool but it's still turn-based. That garbage gameplay style takes me completely out of the experience.
This is looking totally batcrap crazy fun - just what I’d expect from the Yakuza series. As long as the plot is suitably epic it’ll be a winner (Ichiban hasn’t really grabbed me as a protagonist yet though, he seems a bit ‘Kiryu-lite’ rather than a fresh new character - even his outfit is so similar!)
@majklpetr Nah, it's just showing that you can play old school slot machines as a minigame.
@majklpetr
I doubt it. Gambling is extremely popular in japan though.
Although it is negatively perceived of course.
But it kind of belongs in a game like this for the Japanese audience
Was that a Fist of the North Star slot machine? I like what I see in this trailer.
Love how wacky everything is, from the combat to the racing and minigames.
Classic Yakuza charm.
I'm looking forward to this more than Last of Us: Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, and Cyberpunk 2077. I'm greatly looking forward to all four of them, but Yakuza 7 is ticking all my boxes. It looks like a game designed for me.
Looks amazing but could do without that pachisuro nonsense. So much of Yokohama that I know and am keen to see in the Yakuza world though.
This is going to be the best game.
This looks amazing lol
This is everything I want.
So that's what happened to ex-Wolves striker, Don Goodman.
I reckon I would import this just on principle alone
Hell yeah, GOTY.
@shonenjump86 Not quite, Sôten no Ken.
Come to think of it, that wasn't much of an April's fool. It was just a reveal of their next game
