Those launch day PlayStation demos stick in my brain to this day. The T-Rex, Manta Ray, the rotating 3D shapes…pure memory overload. Also, the game demos! Kileak the DNA Imperative, Jumping Flash, and the super cinematic voiceover for Philosoma - “Can you Survive?” - sends a chill down my spine. That PS startup sound!
I could go on and on and then the first two games I bought with my own money were Battle Arena Toshinden and Warhawk.I sold me SNES and about 15 games at a pawn shop so I’d have the money to pre-order the PS and waited in front of Electronics Boutique with my mom in Wichita, Kansas for the doors to open so I could get my day one preorder go home and take over the living room tv for the weekend. I really miss those days!
I've been on the PS Direct site in the US for going on 9.5 hours. I was through and my "spot in line was secured" then the site refreshed and kicked me in to the waiting room where is said "the line is paused". 10 minutes after the sale was supposed to happen, my waiting room message changed to "Your estimated wait time is: more than an hour" and hasn't changed for nearly 15 more minutes. This is maddening.
Unpopular opinion: I did not enjoy TLOU and by a little over half way through the game, I just wanted it to be over and finished out of stubbornness rather than enjoyment. I found the Uncharted games more interesting but even those got a little longing the tooth in the last third of the games.
I really hope there is a 30th anniversary PS5 console/dual sense that is all done up in the original Playstation color scheme. I love and miss the gray boxes of old!
Original Playstation classic gray is the only extra Dual Sense controller I would be willing to purchase. Sadly, the 30th anniversary of PSX isn't until 2025 so I won't hold my breath.
Unpopular opinion: I didn't really like The Last of Us. I found it slow and tedious and really just wanted it to end by about halfway through the campaign. The story was good but definitely didn't make up for the slog of trying to complete the game.
A legit, full remake of the original RE game would be an instant buy from me at this point. Ditch the tank controls and go full out on 4K, HDR, Ray Tracing, etc. The Spencer Mansion would look amazing with modern visuals.
20 hours in and I can truly say that I simply do not like Elden Ring. I can’t get into the story, the systems, the mechanics/controls, etc. character movement is odd, and it’s not as visually impressive as I had expected. I get a similar vibe from GTA games.
Would have made more sense to use J.K. Simmons as Sully if they were so intent on using Tom Holland for his popularity (definitely not his acting ability). At least that way you could get even more Spiderman vibes from the movie.
If emulation of PS1 and PS2 games is easy, it's too bad games from that era couldn't be re-released on a Blu-ray disk in a way that is both affordable and seamless to work with PS5. Maybe a company like Limited Run Games could be the distributor. I know this all sounds dumb but I'd probably buy them.
I could care less about different endings in games. I just play the games as I see fit then move along when finished. If I absolute MUST see different endings, I'll spend a few minutes watching on Youtube instead of sinking another 100+ hours into something.
@OmegaStriver I also have an office in my house that is for work and I don’t use it as a place for entertainment. It’s called compartmentalization. My initial comment had a little bit of joking in it but it must not have come across in print.
It’s fine for people to use their PC for gaming. I, however, never have and never will because I spend my time using it professionally for work and absolutely want a complete disconnect from it when I need entertainment. My choice, my opinion yours is not wrong and neither is mine. I don’t want or need it connected to a tv.
I still cannot fathom ever sitting down at my PC to play games. I, conversely, cannot imagine ever sitting down with my Playstation to do work. I also still purchase albums and music rather than steal or stream it so maybe everyone can just get off my lawn and move along from my comment.

Settings, settings and more settings!
I still appreciate the times when we just popped in a game and played.
Re: Valve's Steam Machine May Not Be As Affordable As a PS5
I've somehow managed to never create a Steam account.
Re: PS5, Xbox on Speaking Terms in New Forza Horizon 5 Car Design
Will there be a physical release of this on PS5?
Re: Switch 2 Fans Can’t Stand Seeing Nintendo’s New Console Compared to the 12-Year-Old PS4
I've never cared what Digital Foundry says about any system. They have clear biases and ultimately, if something is fun, that's all that matters.
Re: Shuhei Yoshida on the Switch 2 Direct: 'Underwhelming Until FromSoftware Showed Up'
I thoroughly enjoyed the Direct and am extremely excited for Switch 2. Also currently enjoying my PS5 Pro.
Re: PS5 Players Drive Xbox's Forza Horizon 5 to the Top of the PS Store Pre-Order Charts All Around the World
I will only purchase this game if it gets a physical release. Period.
Re: Poll: Will You Be Watching The Game Awards 2024?
I find it nearly unwatchable because of how bloated, self-indulgent and cringy it is.

Re: Sony Brings Back Iconic PS1 Startup Screen on PS5, But Only for a Limited Time
Pretty sure a big part of that PS1 startup sound was made on a Roland D-50 synthesizer.
Re: 74% of PS5 Fans Would Be Interested in a Handheld
Fool me once (PSP), fool me twice (PS Vita), fool me thrice (PSVR)...
Fans have simply never shown "enough support" for those extension devices in the Sony ecosystem so why would it be different now?
Re: Ex-PlayStation Exec Shawn Layden Says There's Been a 'Collapse' in Gaming Creativity
I haven't seen a collapse at Nintendo. Maybe there is a management problem.

Are the Kameo characters playable? Looks like the MK take on Smash Bros. in a way.

Re: You Can't See Him, But John Cena Confirms WWE 2K23 for March 2023
Will I be able to use different era versions of the Undertaker? If not, I don't want this game.
Re: Dead Space Remake Trophies Demand at Least Two Playthroughs for the Platinum
I have never understood trophy and achievement hunting in games. Just play the game and enjoy the escape/experience. After all, isn't that the point?
Re: Naughty Dog Is Against Announcing Its Secret Project Too Soon
Hopefully they use better running animations in the next game. Most games can’t seem to get that right.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing The Witcher 3's PS5 Upgrade?
The combat was so off-putting for me on the PS4 that I don't plan to repurchase on the PS5. With that said...the visuals do seem to look better.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Guide: Walkthrough, All Collectibles, and Wiki
Is there anything that I should NOT sell to Brock and Sindri? I'm about 2/3 of the way through The Path and I have yet to sell anything.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Update 2.04 Is Available Now, Here Are All the Patch Notes
The blurry box behind the on-screen dialogue in this game is driving me nuts!
Re: God of War Ragnarok Director Would Love to Work on Castlevania Next
I would be more than happy to play a God of War 2D Metroidvania.
Re: These Could Be All the Atari Anniversary Collection Games on PS5, PS4
Sadly, a lot of my favorites from the 2600 on were made by Activision and others besides Atari.

River Raid
Moon Patrol
Cannon Fodder
Kasumi Ninja

I’d buy a classic PS1 gray controller and plates but no other color option.
