Re: Guide: All PlayStation Classic Mini Games

Hordak

How rad would it be if they included the demo discs from the launch Playstation?! The manta ray and t-rex tech demos were so fun to fool around with.

Also...I would love these:
Heart of Darkness
Silpheed
Philosoma
Kileak: The DNA Imperative
Descent
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Loaded
Battle Arena Toshinden
Colony Wars
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Re: This Is One Way to Tease Ghost of Tsushima's E3 2018 Showcase

Hordak

@get2sammyb For me, personally, I found The Last of Us to be incredibly boring. The story was interesting, but it just dragged for far too long and I felt myself just pushing through to get it over with. Death Stranding, on the other hand just looks intentionally jumbled up and vague in a way that Kojima is known for. It’s almost like we don’t know anything about it, but we still know exactly what we’re going to get. It seems to me that Ghosts of Tsushima, on the other hand, is hitting that “playing make-believe in the back yard as a kid” sweet spot just like Horizon Zero Dawn did with robot dinosaurs. Totally my opinions, of course, so feel free to disagree.

Re: Review: Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)

Hordak

I honestly feel like I bought into the hype on this (and Monster Hunter World). I’m 6 colossi in and just not feeling it. It’s so slow, the camera and controls are clunky and seemingly always working against me, and I am rather irritated at how simple the solutions to the “puzzles” are. Don’t get me wrong, the games looks beautiful, but it’s just not my cup of tea.

Re: Review: Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)

Hordak

I'm completely on the fence about buying this game. Mostly, my main curiosity revolves around a question that I'm hoping can be explained without spoilers. My main question is: Why exactly is the protagonist going around and killing these Colossi? Essentially, is there a good reason for it or is it simply, because he can or because they are in the way of something he wants? Are they evil? Did they do something to cause him to have to kill them? Aren't they the only entities in the game other than the main character?

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

Hordak

I’ll make an assumption that games like Shovel Knight and Axiom Verge did not cost $100 million to make. Maybe these giant studios need to stop overextending themselves, trying to make every game the equivalent of a Ferrari or Lamborghini, and then blaming it on consumers when their product doesn’t sell likethey want it to. No chance in heck it costs as much to make a broken, janky, game like PUBG.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn Leads the Way with Five Nominations at The Game Awards

Hordak

I assume Liam meant Horizon: Zero Dawn came out on top for the Playstation brand since this is a Playstation site. In addition to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild getting six nominations, Super Mario Odyssey also has six nominations. Ultimately, it's great to see how many incredible games came out for all platforms this year!

Re: Review: LawBreakers (PS4)

Hordak

I got stuck buying this in a Limited Run Games bundle because I wanted Wonder Boy as a physical copy and the individual regular edition of that game sold out in less than 40 seconds so I pulled the trigger and grabbed the bundle. Not really interested in shooters, but I might give Law Breakers a shot. That or I might just sell the physical copy.

Re: Oh Dear, Middle-earth: Shadow of War Has Loot Boxes and Microtansactions

Hordak

I prefer the "I'll just wait until the price is inevitably dropped to $20 or $30 in about 3 or 4 months" strategy. If these games can be dropped that significantly in a matter of 90 days, then it's clear we are being overcharged to begin with. I've apparently reached the age where I don't need the newest, shiniest thing the day it comes out. Do I run the risk of missing the online multiplayer heyday of a release every time I do this? Of course. Does it matter to me? Not one bit. I don't make it a secret that I want 90% single player games and 99% offline experiences.

Re: Review: Elite Dangerous (PS4)

Hordak

@AlexStinton Thank you for the response. As a consume,r I would love bullet points like I've seen on the back of a box, but I understand that's not necessarily information for a "review" of the game. Maybe it could be added to the "Game Info" sidebar? Things I would love to see added for the convenience of lazy consumers like myself who don't want to "google" it (from my particular buying perspective) are:

  • Single player mode (campaign) = yes/no
  • Multiplayer = yes/no
  • PS+ required = yes/no
  • Physical copy = yes/no
  • Digital Download = yes/no

Believe it or not, those criteria are more important to me than a Review Score, although I understand I might be in a very small minority. Either way, thanks for the excellent writing and the enjoyable reviews.

Re: Review: Elite Dangerous (PS4)

Hordak

@AlexStinton Can you please include in future reviews whether games require PS+ online, have a single player campaign, etc.? I would really love to try something like this, but I am not going to spend money on a game that will be 100% useless when/if the severs are taken offline.

Re: Industry Is Better When Nintendo Is Strong, Says Sony

Hordak

@themcnoisy I hear you on the Mega Drive (Genesis, in my case). Mine took a beating from my friends and still works great. My original gameboy is a monster too. It looks and plays like brand new. It even sucks the life out of AA batteries just as much as it did way back when lol

Re: Industry Is Better When Nintendo Is Strong, Says Sony

Hordak

My original launch Xbox crashed, my replacement caught fire, and my first two Xbox 360s had the red ring of death. As far as I'm concerned, I'm both the unluckiest hardware purchased in the world and MS will never get a dollar from me. Of the 17 home gaming systems I've owned (and currently still do) those are the only ones to ever fail on me. All of my Atari, Sega, Nintendo, Neo Geo, Turbo Grafx, Sony, etc. systems still function just fine. I can't call that a complete coincidence.

Re: Soapbox: Publishers Can't Bloody Win When It Comes to E3

Hordak

@chiptoon I too really enjoyed Other M. Bad writing aside, the gameplay was fun. I still haven't finished Federation Force, but I didn't want that type of Metroid game. I was hoping for a classic series entry.

The thing is, All three seem to be a specific sandbox to play in. Nintendo is great at whimsy/wonder and family fun, Xbox is good at online everything, and Sony has the market cornered on epic/experimental and mostly brooding games.

Re: Soapbox: Publishers Can't Bloody Win When It Comes to E3

Hordak

@chiptoon No way can someone say "Nintendo won E3" with a Metroid 4 teaser, but diehard Metroid fans (myself included) have been absolutely begging Nintendo for a new PROPER installment of any kind (Federation Force does NOT count) for almost a decade and have received nothing but the sound of crickets. This announcement, even though it will be a year or two away from release, at least gives us a reason to stop hating the big N for just ignoring one of their beloved franchises/heroines.

With that said, I personally felt all three showings from MS, Sony, and Nintendo, were fine. They all showed us reasons to play in their playground. Some might seem better than others, but it's truly a great time to be a gamer. Choices are good and I just happen to have chosen Sony and Nintendo, but MS gamers will have their toys too.

Re: Poll: Has Xbox One X Left You Feeling Green with Envy?

Hordak

I really wanted to be excited for the X1X, and I was right up until they showed it. My immediate thought was "Why the hell does it basically look exactly like the One S?" And why would they name it something that is so close in name (sound-wise)?"

Also, the press conference seemed boring and the crowd reaction (barely anyone even clapping after most games) pretty much added to the showing. Too bad. I'm sure MS will still sell a lot of them, but I didn't see much reason for me to buy one.

Re: Hellblade Gets Seriously Stressed from 8th August

Hordak

@get2sammyb When games I purchased started getting delisted from the Wii Virtual Console, then when my PS4 died and I lost my copy of P.T., I realized that the physical copies of games themselves are more valuable than the service that can make my purchase disappear. Digital is a convenience, but definitely not the best case scenario, as far as I am concerned.

@RedMageLanakyn I feel the exact same way about Amazon Prime. It definitely affects my purchasing habits.
