Mortal Kombat 12 PS5 PlayStation 5 1

An obviously staged social media photo uploaded – and swiftly deleted – by NetherRealm Studios’ senior production manager Jonathan Andersen has seemingly confirmed Mortal Kombat 12, although it’s possible the developer may just be playing with its fans. The image, which focuses primarily on some artwork, includes the corner of a computer monitor, where ‘MK12_Mast’ is one of the files.

There’s also the bottom of an email on the screen, where Andersen points out “our fans eagerly scrape the Internet” to a colleague. So this is clearly a setup, designed to either raise interest in the sequel or simply troll. There had been some speculation that NetherRealm Studios was working on a Marvel game at one point, but it’s since become clearer that another Mortal Kombat is more likely.

Assuming this is true, it means there’s no Injustice 3 on the cards just yet, ending a cycle of the studio rotating between the two series. We suppose Mortal Kombat 12 is slowly beginning to become an open secret, so a little bit of teasing won’t hurt. Presumably an official announcement isn’t too far off, as it’s been three years since Mortal Kombat 11 launched.
