PS Plus Game Pass

Hold on, a major platform holder is actually lowering the price of something? It sounds insane, but it's true.

Microsoft has just announced that the monthly costs of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass are being reduced, as of right now.

It's a pretty sizeable drop, too, with Ultimate going from $29.99 / £22.99 to $22.99 / £16.99. Meanwhile, the PC subscription is dipping from $16.49 / £13.49 to $13.99 / £10.99.

For comparison, PS Plus Premium — Sony's most expensive tier — is currently priced at $17.99 / £13.49 a month. So while this isn't quite a case of Xbox undercutting PlayStation, the two price tags are certainly comparable at this point.

There's a caveat to all of this, though, in that the cost reduction of Game Pass is directly tied to Call of Duty being removed from the service as a day one addition.

Indeed, Microsoft previously saw no alternative to increasing the price of Game Pass, in order to facilitate having such an insanely popular property be part of the deal.

It's worth remembering that Microsoft had increased Game Pass prices just last year, in October. But under Xbox's new leadership, it's clearly been decided that a revision is necessary.

What do you make of this? Is Game Pass Ultimate a little more tempting after this reduction? Should Sony be at least a little concerned? Slash your own price in the comments section below.
