Re: Poll: Are You Buying Horizon: Zero Dawn?

Hordak

I want to want this game, but the more I see of it, the more wonky the main character looks and the more I'm afraid it will be too much RPG (I can't stand having a giant inventory of nonsense items) and too little variety to be fun. A big, beautiful world is one thing, but these giant, walled sandbox games are starting to wear thing with me. I'd rather have a new Castlevania Lords of Shadow (or metroidvania style) game.

Re: The Thirst for Crash Bandicoot PS4 Is Real

Hordak

If there is a physical release, I will get it eventually. However, all of my money is going to the Nintendo Switch of the next few months. I'll get the new PS4 games like Horizon, Nier, etc. once they drop to about $20-30.

Re: Ubisoft to Release Fewer Games as Focus Shifts to Long-Term Support

Hordak

@get2sammyb I don't like the sound of that future. I realize game budgets are immense now, but dang. I miss the days of getting a game and actually having the game! All of these patches and extra DLC, pre-order bonuses, etc. are just bogging me down. I swear a company couldn't even release solitaire, mine sweeper or even the original PC version of Tetris without 10 patches and a wall of paid DLC.

Re: PS4 Bundle Prices Plunge Ahead of Nintendo Switch

Hordak

@CliffordB it's simple, really. I have a large backlog of PS4 games also. But I can't take those with me when I'm on the road 6 days a week. The Switch will likely become my go to console as of March 3rd, but I'll still dust off the PS4 from time to time when I'm at home.

I would like to add that none of my Nintendo consoles have ever failed me and I have every Nintendo launch console since the SNES. I got the NES within a year of launch. Every Sony and Microsoft console I've ever owned has cratered at some point in the first two years.

Re: PS4 Bundle Prices Plunge Ahead of Nintendo Switch

I think it would be hilarious if Nintendo included a "trophy system" where you get a trophy every time you turn on the system. Every time you load a game, every time you complete a level or lose a life, every time you...

...wait, no I don't. That's what the participation trophy generation wants! The trophy system is ridiculous. It's creating false replay value as much as DLC is creating a way to make people pay more for the same game. It's amazing to me how dumb we are as gamers these days.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?

Hordak

@leucocyte The entire industry is talking about Switch, Zelda, and more related Nintendo news. It seems the focus shifted away from Horizon, Resident Evil 7, and everything else almost immediately. Then again, as short as the attention span of the average person is now, the next shiny object will probably get the world talking about that by tomorrow and forget about Nintendo.

Re: Review: The Last Guardian (PS4)

Hordak

@dryrain you just described one of my favorite games of all time: Advent Rising for the original Xbox. It wasn't the prettiest or smoothest running game, but it absolutely captured my imagination. Also, the music was simply amazing!

Re: Review: Slain: Back from Hell (PS4)

Hordak

I also love Advent Rising on the original Xbox when it was trashed by reviewers for frame rate and slow down issues. Sometimes the atmosphere of a game makes up for its shortcomings. Kid Nikki Radical Ninja is another example of a bad NES game (to some) that I thoroughly enjoy to this day for many reasons.

Re: Review: Slain: Back from Hell (PS4)

Hordak

I just have to say that I disagree with the reviewer. I have been having as much fun with this game as I have with anything in quite a few years. No, the combat isn't extremely deep and varied, but neither were games like Ninja Gaiden or Ghosts 'n Goblins and those are hard as nails as well. Simply put, the controls are good, the visuals are great, and the sound is stellar. I personally feel this game is an 8.5+. I'll take five Slains over one Call of Duty or Halo any day of the week. That said, everyone is entitled to their opinions on games. Mine is just heavily in favor of this game.

Re: Poll: Should the PS4 Pro Have a UHD Blu-ray Player?

Hordak

...then again, Nintendo supposedly going with some sort of cartridge format versus discs is perfect. Discs have always been loud, hot, and distracting. I don't understand why the idea of a 4K cartridge or flash drive of some sort for movies isn't being tossed around. At least that way, companies could at least TRY to use the cost of production as a reason for charging $30-$40 for UHD movies.

Re: Poll: Should the PS4 Pro Have a UHD Blu-ray Player?

Hordak

I am in no way interested in downloading 10+GB 4K movies to my devices or to stream them. This is exactly why we need physical media. The US has such abysmal internet connections in some areas that it would literally take days to download 1 or 2 4K movies. We haven't quite reached the point where having 10-20 terabyte hard drives is reasonable either. Give me a UHD drive and let me decide; don't give me one and the decision is easy: I'll give someone else my money.

Re: Talking Point: When Will the PS4K Neo Actually Be Announced?

Hordak

@johncalmc makes no difference to me. Nintendo gets my money for the NX on day 1 no matter what. I don't even need to know what it is. Any Nintendo console will always be my first option, followed very closely by PlayStation, but Xbox is essentially not even on my radar anymore after having 3 X360s red ring of death on me within the first year.

Re: Pokémon Go Makes Nintendo More Valuable Than Sony

@NintendoFan4Lyf said: "I was a older when Pokemon first came around: I was in high school and was definitely in that "It's all cutesy, that is for kids" phase of my life, so I never got into the franchise. All this Pokemon GO talk has actually got me interested in getting a Pokemon title for the 1st time. So, if anything, it might actually help sales for those who are thinking about taking a 2nd look at the franchise."

You just described me. I felt the exact same way about Animal Crossing since it came out when I was in college at the time. Now, these two franchises are starting to pop up on my radar and getting me interested in my mid 30's and I'm not at all embarrassed to admit it.

Re: There Are Some Interesting The Last of Us 2 Theories Flying Around

Hordak

It seems I agree with the majority of posts here so far. I was bored with The Last of Us. The story was fine, yet predictable. The characters were ok, but nothing I really got attached to. My biggest Naughty Dog gripe is this: Please fix the feel and movements of the playable characters. While, at the time, it was great for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, they now feel like slow moving tanks. Each iteration has made the playable character seem heavier and slower as everything else has become more and more polished.

Re: Soapbox: Sony Needs to Set the Record Straight on PS4K Soon

Hordak

I have no interest in incremental console upgrades. A fragmented, whether It actually happens that way or not, Sony user base is bad mojo. It bit Sega in the rear, it prevents many good things from happening with Android, and all but made Windows downright laughable until the past few years. VR will also split the users. It happened with Kinect and Microsoft hurt the Xbox brand because of it. However, I'm truly excited, yet hesitant, about whatever Nintendo has up their sleeve with NX. I know the big N isn't as appealing as it was through my rose colored glasses, but what they do is timeless. The Wii U is underpowered and the game pad seems like a gimmick, but that console is where I've had the most "fun" this generation. PS4 games are great too, but in a different way.
