@themightyant For sure. I play Europa Universalis 4 for God's sake. The game that's received god knows how much DLC. I buy it (on 50% sale) because it's a fun game and each DLC gives me at least 20+ hours of play.
The issue is, even as a massive strategy game nerd, I am never going to also throw money at a game that's selling point is: 'A bit like EU4'.

@Powerplay94 Even to cover the (presumably major) financial losses on 8 failures? I'm genuinely not sure about this logic. Especially as: a) GAAS seem to be incredibly fickle and I already see people calling them a 'fad'.
b) Sony have Bungie and Destiny. Let Destiny work their GAAS magic for those that want it. Maybe release a couple of GAAS MP games for franchises that it'd work for and leave it at that.

Does anyone honestly think 'MT-ridden quirky heist simulator/massive map Sci-Fi FPS #24' is going to grab peoples attention?

@Howson79 To be fair, I'm not sure I want announcements for stuff 6 years out, either. Still, it'd be nice to have at least a vague idea of what's coming out in 24/25.

Lord knows if it was due to Jim Ryan, but Sony's weird radio silence still baffles me. I can only think of two reasons:

1. Sony don't want to announce stuff too early, so we'll get SOPs in say March and Sept each year starting in 2024 that only cover the next 6 months

2. They're withholding loads of stuff for a sort of '2nd console launch' announcement extravaganza when the PS5 Slim and/or Pro release.

@MagisterMagi Worse, 10 GAAS before a certain year. My maths and memory may be rusty, but I think those targets would have needed Sony to release 2-3 GAAS games a year?!

@UltimateOtaku91 God knows why they didn't buy them of Square Enix. My guess is Sony already had live service fever but that point, and weren't interested in anything that wouldn't work as a LS.

@Americansamurai1 I'd be incredibly surprised if they didn't have a modern analogue option with the game. (Like the REmake and RE Zero remasters). I'd also be incredibly surprised if a sub set of gamers with don't spend a depressing amount of time moaning about how the option 'ruins the game' and is a 'slap in the face' to hardcore/oldschool/whatever gamers etc.

@PixelDragon Remedy will probably make a similar amount of money from your digital deep sale purchase than they would from a full price physical one, due to a higher margin and lack of disc production fees. My guess is once the percentage of physical sales drops to a certain percentage (in guessing 30%), the percentage of physical games profit will be low enough that a lot of publishers pull the plug. It'll only take one to do it and come out ok for the rest to follow.

Is Phantom Liberty a 'Set after the end credits' DLC or a 'Fits in the middle of the main story' DLC?

People need to stop calling this a handheld when it's a peripheral for the ps5.

Would the PS5 slim be announced then?

All I can say is that if this is the slim, god knows what size any 'pro' released about a year from now will be.

@REALAIS To be fair, aren't all the 'slim' models branded by the internet? Does Sony actually call them that?

My headcannon is that if Sony boast about 'x% lighter' or 'x% smaller', I'll call it a slim, if not, I won't.

My guess is that it'll achieve a similar number to the PS4. Hopefully we won't get the 10th gen until late 2028

@Chaosbros But how do you do that in a bounty hunter game? If every single quest is 'kill this guy, steal this thing' with no story twists, like a watered down, bloated version of the newer Hitman games, I'm going to find it pretty tedious after a few hours.

@Triumph741 The sad thing is that the newer RPG AC games could be (if not fixed, then massively improved) by removing half of everything that isn't a main quest or meaningful side quest, and making what's left 'pay out' 50% more XP and in game currency. You wouldn't need to change the story or world map, at all.

I just find these comparing screenshots so dumb. Lighting, facial expression, 'camera' angles etc. make all the difference. You need to see the character in motion to judge. I could take a terrible picture/screenshot and a great picture/screenshot of the same person and they could look like completely different people.

It seems like IG can release 1 game a year at this rate. Surely Sony's other big studios can handle at least one SP game every 2 years? Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Gurellia, Santa Monica, Blue Point, Bend. That'd be about 3 First Party SP games a year for the PS5. Why aren't we getting that many?

Hmm, SH games haven't done brilliantly recently. The movie trend seems to be a bit depressed, too. Hopefully EA haven't missed the bus.

I hope that AC Japan game is set in the 1500's, then ROTR, AC: Red and Ghost of Tsushima will all be set in different eras about 200 years apart. That'd be a hell of a historical video game marathon!

@GeneJacket Very possibly. The praise heaped on the voice acting of the original games tells me that nostalgia is playing a massive part, or certain people are just used to 'english - dub anime voice acting'. To be it sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

@themightyant There's nothing worse than a padded out game. Also a fun, interesting 5 hour game will get replayed by me, many times, so probably will equal 15+ hours. A slow, grindy 40+ hour game will get dropped by me 5 hours in and never touched again

@PenguinLtd I'm worried that 60-80% of what Sony has is LS games. I'd be pretty annoyed if they only release 1 SP game a year from now on.

@Beerheadgamer82 I'm sure the Switch 2 will be physical, but the Switch 3 could be released in 2029 at this rate. Would that be physical? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it.

@UltimateOtaku91 I hate to say it but the physical media shops seem on life support, anyway. The amount of tat they sell that isn't physical media (how many branded t-shirts a d funko pops do people need?) Isn't a good sign

I'm assuming they've done the maths on this? The second the gains outweigh the losses, physical will disappear in a blink, sadly. I'm interested if the physical : digital purchase ratio is different between 'Twitter/gaming news' gamers and Joe Public gamers.

Surprised Sony didn't announce anything new. Maybe their plan to to focus so much of live service MP games that they only release one AAA SP a year from now on? Predictions: 23- Spiderman 2, 24 - GOT2, 25 - new game from Santa Monica, 26 - Horizon 3, 27 - Spiderman 3 etc. Wouldn't surprise me at all. The other games each year could just be live service multiplayer stuff

I think game subscriptions will stay, and maybe get a boost when streaming becomes reliable and accessable to the masses? I think digital sales will be king for the next 10 years. I'm doubtful if any 10th gen consoles (2027?) Will have disc drives.

@BadPlayerOne I liked the slow start. It helped ease normies like me I to the more fantastical parts of the big story.

It's a shame, but the screenshots make it look like a shot for shot remake? So would it make any difference?

I just hate base building. I get it in Age of Empires etc. but I like my world war 2 RTS games to have set reinforcements on completing objectives.

@BearsEatBeets I'm pretty sure the 9th gen will last until 2027 with at least a 2 year cross gen period afterwards.
