I'm excited for the setting, and the idea of going a bit back to the older games sounds interesting. BUT, although losing the bloat, level gating and padding would be awesome IMO, other RPG stuff like dialogue choices and skill trees seems just fine, IMO. Ripping stuff out doesn't automatically make a game good, and I remember that the older AC games had plenty of padding, too.

TLDR: I'm worried this game might lose the good stuff about RPGs while keeping the bad stuff

I love your optimism, but let's see their games in action, first.
By the way, I'm pretty worried by how many gamers don't know that Telltale are (sort of) back. I hope their new games sell decently. I'm super excited about The Expanse and TWAU2. Especially as I think the team behind TWAU2 has a lot of old TellTale devs and Deck Nine have more than proved themselves with LIS:BTS and TC.

@BAMozzy I think that future is possible at some point. MS and Sony (and maybe others) will still make consoles, but they are essentially streaming boxes. And each major publisher has a streaming service, i.e. everything is exclusive but also nothing is exclusive. I don't think this'll become reality until the end of the 10th gen, though. (Say 2034?)

Edit: Also, I think PS+ Premium and GamePass could eventually become available on their 10th gen competitors, too.

@ChrisDeku I don't mean to sound cynical, but I wonder if the 'real' publishers don't have a similar attitude, TBH.

@IAmAshCohen17 Even the big publishers? (SE, Sega, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take Two, EA, WB, etc.)

This is one of the few things that genuinely annoys me about VG subscriptions. DLC shouldn't be a thing with subscriptions! Any game on a subscription service should have all DLC included!

This is tricky. I don't want to buy something that ends up being on PS+ premium.

@Ichiban I kind of agree, but I think that's more due to VG production being brutalized for at least 2 years due to CV rather than E3 as we know it going away.

Great! I guess a sequel to GF1 would have been tricky. I'd be surprised if a 2024 game had an 8th gen release, though?

@nomither6 Last? Longest, maybe but why would it be the last? I do this everyone will heavily push subscriptions even more, next gen though.

@Futureshark This my favourite order of events, since I'm dreaming:
1. Re-release 8th/9th gen versions of Human Revolution directors cut and a new DC of Mankind Divided as a double pack with all DLC integrated.
2. Release one more Jensen game set a few years after MD to wrap up Jensen's story and set up Deus Ex 1.
3. Remake Deus Ex 1
4. Remake Invisible War (good ideas, flawed execution makes this IDEAL remake-fodder)
5. Make a sequel to IW that bookends the whole thing.

Wow. So I doubt I'm getting a PS5 until Xmas 2023 or even Xmas 2024. I may as well wait for the Slim. (Lord knows if these shortages will cause the PS5 slim to arrive sooner or later than the usual 3 years?)

@4kgk2 Why didn't Sony buy the western stuff? For that price, it was a bargain. Having TR especially as a FP franchise would have been apt.

I really loved Greedfall, an RPG right out of 2005 both in a good and bad (mostly good) way, so I'm excited for this. The weirdness (Steampunk?) makes me a bit hesitant, though. I'd have preferred the protagonist being a normal person, rather than a weird robot.

@Juanalf I'd guess the PS5 would have been out for around 6 years by the time Horizon 3 is released, so I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a ps5 exclusive.

@RocketRaja Most players will muck around with it for 20 minutes then not touch it again. It's a fun, weird little extra, not the end times. Kind of like how you'd imagine playing an FPS with God mode and unlimited ammo would be the funnest thing ever, but actually it's not. I don't see anything wrong with story-focussed games doing something like this. If it gets more fans of SM games, then that's only a positive.

Hmm. Returnal being on there seems to imply all 1st party games will eventually be on the service. The question is when. I'm guess 6 - 12 months after launch?

@Deadlyblack I think if this service does very well, they'll probably do something like that ('success breeds success/good money after good' and all that). It a way, it could work in Sony's favour. Ride the initial 'new service' hype for a year, then create a 2nd hype wave, 1-2 years later with the announcement of PS3 emulation and maybe some more 1st party games on the service. I genuinely think gaming services like this are the future (I may be wrong), so it's only in Sony's interest to keep improving it. The cynic in me also thinks announcing stuff like PS3 emulation could be a good excuse to increase the subscription price down the line.

@PlayStationGamer3919 All are possibilities. Not sure if Sony will buy them all, though.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I almost feel sorry for Sony. Most responses seem to be 'subscriptions/streaming is the devil' or 'subscriptions/streaming is the future and Sony aren't going far enough'. Sony can tweak it as this generation goes along, though.

Why isn't Spiderman MM or Ghost of Tsushima 50% off, yet? They both over a year old! I swear Sony's 1st party stuff used to have better sales

Surely there's no harm in putting them on the service after 3-6 months? Pretty sure the average SP AAA game has made most of it's 'traditional' money by then?

My guess, is it'll be like films regarding cinema - disc/streaming. PS first party games will be sold 'normally' for 3-6 months, then go on PS Plus for 'free' after that.

@Robocod My guess is the Curator will slowly begin to star more prominently in the stories.

@nessisonett 'Years away?' Witcher 3 got its DLC 5 months and 12 months after it's release respectively. Even if we consider Feb 2022 (patch 1.5) Cyberpunk's 'real' release date, I'd expect a small DLC in 6 months and a bigger one in a year or less. After Feb 2023, I don't think we can expect any CP 2077 DLC.

I hope DONTNOD announce something. Their stuff is always interesting.

@GeneticMutation I agree on the preordering thing. No one should ever do it. I'm a bit annoyed at this game being ragged on for being full price, when other games get a pass. I'm pretty sure Until Dawn was full price.

@Weebleman To be fair, I've seen a lot of people asking for SMG to do a larger game more like Until Dawn. Isn't this that? I'm pretty sure Until Dawn was full price. It's not their fault that 'full price' is £20 more now than it was 10 years ago.

Slight more interesting/less likely answer: Maybe a PS5 slim prototype? Sony may be fast tracking it to try and mitigate supply problems.

According to the blog, the game has a sort of codex type thing, too! That's a great idea. 7th gen games used to do that a lot, but the trend died out for some reason.

@ChrisDeku Good point. If it makes you feel any better, as VG streaming and PS's gamepass equivalent becomes more of a thing, physical sales and the used game market will be rendered irrelevant.

Also, why aren't they getting a native 9th gen release, too? It all seems a bit odd, like these should have been the 8th gen versions to begin with. Were the original versions just 7th gen ports?

@DeanySevigny That'll never happen in that sense, as the PS4/5 apparently can't read CDs. Maybe you could make inserting the cd trigger a download though? Someone with more tech knowledge would have to confirm

@Col_McCafferty I get your frustration with the...err.. ''backlash' (I liked TLOU2 as well, but did find Ellie's 'back and forth' a bit unbelievable) but at this pint I'd suggest staying off any comments page regarding TLOU2. It's not going to go away any time, soon.
