@AI-Generation I think the cross gen period will be at least as long as the PS4/5 one. Was that 3-4 years?

My prediction:

1. $900 without disc drive, $1000 dollars with disc drive
2. Late 2027 release
3. $100-$200 cheaper Slim (ish) version released in late 2030
4. It'll sell like hot cakes until it hits a ceiling, then sales will slow to a crawl. I'm sure there's a fairly cohort on Playstation fabs who'd but the new PS on release if it cost $5000. Not sure the exact number, though.

I won't even think about buying it until I've completed every PS5 game on my backlog and wishlist. Any cross gen games I'll leave until I have a ps6.

@tameshiyaku There's probably 5-10 million gamers who would be the newest box at launch even if it cost $5000. That'll probably be enough for the fairly niche steam machine. But not enough for the ps6.

I'm sure R* are terrified. In about 10 years, these retailers are going to be in dire straits.

@helloim_anthony I think the ps6 will have a disc drive as an optional attachment, and the ps7 won't even have that. Eventually discs won't make enough profit to be worth the effort

@Mjoen I'm a digital gamer, but this take is incorrect. Even if a ps5 game shipped on 10 discs, the only time you'd need to switch discs is when installing it.

I'm not believing any 'no physical, no sale' replies to this news.

I've got so many games on my PS5 wishlist (including this) it doesn't even load properly anymore. Plus about 20 games on my PS5 backlog. I'm not even thinking about the ps6 for a good 4 years! 😅

I'm assuming the Codename Veronica remake and RE9 DLC will get a showcase in a few months time?

I love this stuff, however there is always a risk of it becoming: a) tediously complicated or b) essentially a second job (or both). They'll need to get the design and economy balance right.

I'll enjoy these games. Hopefully the price will be reasonable

Game announcements this summer have been the definition of 'solid'. Nothing super exciting, but plenty of stuff I'll almost certainly buy and have a great time with. Probably one of the better 'not E3's in a few years.

I'm really looking forward to British Silent Hill. To the point where I think the occasional one-off standalone RE game set in other countries would be interesting.

Xbox is worrying me a bit. Sure, reversing poor decisions and being more aware of fan feedback is great, but overreacting to that may not be a great idea. Also, in the nicest possible way, it's not 2009 anymore. Sort of doing what MS did in the 7th gen won't work (by itself, at least).

I never played Origins and Legends, maybe they'll sell the remasters in a double pack?

I know us gamers like our outlandish price predictions, but surely a PS6 wouldn't cost less than a PS5 pro? So $900? I simply can't afford that and I although the tech enthusiasts won't care, I'm sure Joe Public will.

I'll almost certainly get this, but I always wait for reviews. Also my PS5 backlog is massive and will probably get a bit bigger after the days of playing sale! 😅

I remember the series did have some (usually dry) humour and light-hearted moments, so hopefully they don't over-correct into tedious grim-dark territory.

@Haruki_NLI Same here. The only Nintendo games I care about are some Zelda games and some Metroid games. That's probably one game a year at most. Not worth buying a Switch 2 for.

@cragis0001 I don't understand your question. Most 3rd party games will presumably continue to be multiplatform like always. This is talking about PS 1st party games.

I'm not ideologically opposed to every game being on everything, but if so few pc gamers were buying the ports, was it worth the expense and bother for Sony? Probably not. If all their pc port were selling 5M copies each, then you can bet your bottom dollar they'd still be doing it.

These idiots are a minority of a minority. Think of the (relatively) small percentage of people who play AA or AAA 'buy it once' games, the percentage of those who post on social media, and the percentage of those who choose to say dumb things. Tiny. It's depressing that they seem to punch so much above their weight. Normal people who do play GOT (hopefully) don't give a monkey's fart if a free bonus mode isn't updated any more.

Yeah, if these port were selling millions on PC, it'd arguably be worth the expense and controversy from console fans. For these tiny numbers, what's the point? Especially as releasing day-and-date is out of the question.

@MrPeanutbutterz It definitely has a similar feel to TLOU, but 'poor knock off' seems extremely unfair to me. I enjoyed it more than TLOU in some cases.

TBH, if those Sony pc games aren't selling enough to a) offset porting costs and b) offset any 'damage' to the PS brand/exclusivity then they shouldn't bother.

I get that Sony are probably freaking out over the memory price hike, the fact that fewer and fewer people are playing video games instead of smartphone stuff and that an increasing percentage of that video game time is taken up by live services. But how does shutting BP games help?! You'd think a relatively cheap remake studio would be a reliable pillar to keep doing what it does best in the background.
