Surprised Sony didn't announce anything new. Maybe their plan to to focus so much of live service MP games that they only release one AAA SP a year from now on? Predictions: 23- Spiderman 2, 24 - GOT2, 25 - new game from Santa Monica, 26 - Horizon 3, 27 - Spiderman 3 etc. Wouldn't surprise me at all. The other games each year could just be live service multiplayer stuff
I think game subscriptions will stay, and maybe get a boost when streaming becomes reliable and accessable to the masses? I think digital sales will be king for the next 10 years. I'm doubtful if any 10th gen consoles (2027?) Will have disc drives.
@Bionic-Spencer I'm probably going to do the same, but have Sony confirmed that all the live service games are going to be MP? Aren't SP games with reasonably frequent updates/add ons technically live services?
@Andy22385 The question is: will 9th gen games released after the pro models run like crap on the non-pro versions? If so then this is essentially halving generation length to 3-4 years. Pretty bad when consoles are costing so much
@Oriion OK. To be honest I don't really like base building in RTS games outside of Age of Empires. I much prefer getting set reinforcements. But that's just me.
As long as Horizon and Ghost of Tushima get full trilogies, I won't mind too much. Live service is a vague enough term that I might like at least one of them, hopefully.
@Shepherd_Tallon The thing is, two of my favourite games are Firewatch and Disco Elysium, so MP and/or LS games don't usually interest me. An SP games that gets regular updates is technically a LS game, so hopefully one or two of them will suit me
@Shepherd_Tallon The weird thing is that these Anthem/Evolve/Avengers/Babylon's Fall type games frequently don't do that well, but they keep making them! I'm just praying that the Sony live service games are good as that could be a large amount of ps5 output
AAA SP games are f**ked aren't they? Publishers want all games to be grindy Destiny clones where the story is the bare minimum to justify running in circles and shooting orbs and/or bland robots. I've never bought a game like this and I'm flabbergasted that gamers are still surprised when games like this turn out to be crap
@Stevemalkpus My guess is that FW originally planned a larger scale OW sequel to Chapter 1, but, err, 'current events' made that difficult for the Ukrainian dev studio. So they made a smaller scale reimagining of an old game, adapted to be a sequel.
@InsaneWade That's not a bad compromise. Current gen, last gen, classic, then retro. Even then it's unclear of where the classic/retro boundary is, though.
I think a good way is that any thing before 'last gen' is retro. Sure it's arbitrary, but what other definition is there? 'Before 1995? 1997? 2000?' no matter what year it is? That's both arbitrary and increasingly meaningless. It kind of reminds me of how our current era from 1979 is sometimes called 'Modern Britain'. Surely every era of any kind needs to end sometime?
Can Devs please stop making menu navigation happen with a pseudo mouse cursor in console games! Having a simple grid/list with the d-pad/ analogue stick is fine. Is this literally because Destiny does it?
@thechetearly I had no problem with the combat in Witcher 3 (PS4), but then again, some of my favourite games are Firewatch and Suzerain. Not exactly combat-focussed!
@Rob_230 I can easily imagine some dumb exec thinking that setting something in the same universe as another thing somehow guarantees sales equal to that other thing.
@Truegamer79 What do the fins actually do? Cooling? The only other answer I see is something about customisable faceplates who seem to far too much about customisable faceplates.
Maybe revision no.4 will fix this. That being said I bet a lot of repair folks get dubious 'i was delicately handling it with velvet gloves and for no reason at all it just stopped working!'
@Uncharted2007 For better or worse, Mirage looks to be a different beast to Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla and the AC Infinity titles look like a new soft reboot, so they're probably worth keeping an eye on.
@somnambulance My guess is that cross-gen will drop off in late 2023 (Usual 2 year period + an extra year due to massive stock shortages etc.). If we're still getting 8th gen games in 2024, then that'd be ridiculous.
I'm already seeing a lot of people saying this gen should be killed off early. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen as it'd lead to a lot of wasted money and even more stock shortages? I think pro/slim versions should be released in 1-2 years with the 9th gen getting a 2nd launch from then.

Re: You Have 20 Seconds to Watch This RoboCop: Rogue City PS5 Gameplay
@durxll123 If we're playing as the robot (Or cyborg? What is RC, exactly?) Then aren't we also playing as the auto aim?
Re: The Expanse, a PS5 and PS4 Narrative Adventure, Brings Back the Telltale Games Label
@BadPlayerOne I liked the slow start. It helped ease normies like me I to the more fantastical parts of the big story.
Re: The Expanse, a PS5 and PS4 Narrative Adventure, Brings Back the Telltale Games Label
@KidRyan To be fair, it's a prequel so you don't need to read the books or watch the series, first.
Re: Spider-Man 2 Map 'Roughly Twice the Size', Adds Queens and Brooklyn
So Staten Island and the Bronx for Spiderman 3?
Re: Shocking: Hideo Kojima Not Involved in Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
It's a shame, but the screenshots make it look like a shot for shot remake? So would it make any difference?
Re: Company of Heroes 3 (PS5) - Veteran RTS Series Enjoys Pyrrhic Victory on PS5
I just hate base building. I get it in Age of Empires etc. but I like my world war 2 RTS games to have set reinforcements on completing objectives.
Re: Work on the Next Main Witcher Game Is Ramping Up as Cyberpunk Expansion Nears Release
@BearsEatBeets I'm pretty sure the 9th gen will last until 2027 with at least a 2 year cross gen period afterwards.
Re: Work on the Next Main Witcher Game Is Ramping Up as Cyberpunk Expansion Nears Release
Who's handling the Witcher 1 remake?
Re: Metal Gear Solid's PS5 Master Collection Adds Two More Titles
Are these coming to PS4? I know we want to leave the 8th gen in the past, but you'd think with ports/old remasters they could make an exception...
Re: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (PS5) - There's Nothing Precious About This
@PenguinLtd I don't think that's fair. Gollum is a really interesting character. I'm surprised the ball could be dropped so badly on such a good idea
Re: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (PS5) - There's Nothing Precious About This
A real shame. I wasn't expecting the Earth. A decent AA stealth game with a few twists and turns along the way would have been just fine. Why

Re: How RTS Company of Heroes 3 Is Handling the All-Important Issue of Controls on PS5
Is this game a 'build stuff to generate units' RTS game or a 'complete primary/secondary/hidden objectives to get reinforcements' RTS game?

Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake on PS4 Is Why Cross-Gen Needs to End
@TrickyDicky99 Won't buy the previous gen version (makes sense) or won't buy it, at all (I don't get that, TBH)
Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake on PS4 Is Why Cross-Gen Needs to End
@PSXDave People love saying PSX so much, they're doing it for every PlayStation! What does the 'X' stand for? I've always called it the PS1?
Re: PS5 Has Been Discounted for the First Time Since It Launched Over Two Years Ago
Hmm. Maybe they're trying to slowly clear stock to make room for this rumoured Slim/D-chassis model?

Re: 'AAAA' Title The Callisto Protocol Reportedly Falls Short of Expected Sales Figures
@SamMR The only possible explanation I can think of is that it includes marketing costs?
Re: Dead Space PS5 Launch Trailer Marks the Return of Isaac Clarke
@Futureshark I'd say DS3 needs a reame more than any of them to make it better. I think they'd need to make a few story changes, though
