Stealth Royalty Thief: The Dark Project Steps Out of the Shadows Remastered on PS5 1

Nightdive Studios, one of the teams dedicated to reviving old classic games, has just announced Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, and it's coming to PS5 and PS4 this winter.

Here's the (suitably dark) announcement trailer:

Thief: The Dark Project is the first entry in what would become a legendary series of stealth games.

Originally launching in 1998, it was highly praised for its innovative first-person stealth gameplay; players had to make intelligent use of light and sound to make it through levels unnoticed.

The Thief games have been very influential on immersive sims as well as the stealth genre; I doubt we'd have Dishonored without Thief, for example.

The remaster includes all content from Thief: Gold, meaning you're getting the full original game plus additional levels and updates from the expanded version.

Thief: The Dark Project Remastered runs at 4K and up to 120 frames per second, and features revamped visuals that retain the old look but have been enhanced.

It also sports some quality-of-life changes, like a weapon/item wheel to make it easier to manage your equipment playing on a controller.

The Thief series has tried to bounce back a couple of times, but nothing has ever quite matched the first few titles, so I'm pleased the original is coming back.

As mentioned, it's due this winter on PS5 and PS4, but there's no firm date just yet.
