Xbox flagship franchise Halo will make its PS5 debut in just seven weeks.
Microsoft has attached a 28th July release date to Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of the single player mode from Bungie’s iconic first-person shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved.
While there’ll be no competitive multiplayer in this version of the game, the remake will feature two-player split-screen co-op and four-player online co-op, with crossplay support.
The title will also be updated to take full advantage of the PS5’s various advantages, including the DualSense controller and PS5 Pro.
In addition to all-new visuals, enhanced cinematics, and revised gameplay, this version of the game will feature three all-new prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.
The blurb reveals:
After crash landing on a mysterious ringworld known as Halo, the Master Chief is tasked with helping the remaining humans survive against overwhelming Covenant forces. Alongside his AI companion Cortana, he uncovers Halo’s dark secrets and fights to avert the annihilation of all life in the galaxy.
You can check out a new trailer above, which focuses on a ton of new gameplay footage, including the new prequel missions.

Halo 3 was the greatest multiplayer experience of my lifetime. Definitely be picking this up but the news that Gears is back to an Xbox exclusive is kinda a bummer
It's just laughable at this point, Gears they think is precious enough to keep but Halo isn't. Even Phil Spencer didn't go back and forth this quick.
Yeah but will we see any Halo games after? At this point why would a PS5 only player want to invest when there's a good chance its the only one that will hit PS.
@DennisReynolds Yeah they seriously now risk cannibalising the sales of these games now when they are causing confusion.
I plan on playing it on PC. It looks like fun and like Halo.
@DennisReynolds Unless they butchered it worse than anyone could imagine, the game still holds up after all these years (minus the Library). It’s worth playing at least once, especially if you never have before, and potentially needing to finish the series storyline elsewhere doesn’t really ruin what this game can offer.
Here we go, can't go any more tent-pole than Halo but we need the mp part too. Hopefully PlayStation fans will now like Xbox games again...until they don't.
I'm boycotting this game and if I want to play any halo games I will just play the copys i own on 360.
Agreed with many of the points in the comments. I personally don't care about any of their more identitary series but the messaging (and strategy) is confusing and weak.
@AdamNovice To be fair, these are old Halo games coming to PS5. I think we’ll also get a standalone multiplayer game (for crossplay, and profit), as well as the rumoured Halo 2 and 3 remakes, but a new Halo campaign may be an Xbox exclusive. I do think it’s silly, especially what they’re doing with Gears, in terms of walking back their multiplatform strategy, but we’ll see. The. Again, if Campaign Evolved sells well…it could wind up like Forza Horizons (which, I’d imagine, was too profitable to NOT put future instalments on PS5).
@Nei …and won’t make a difference, other than allowing a few Xbox fanboys to sleep better at night.
Halo was already announced for PS5, whereas Gears E day hadn't been would be my logic - assume that if Microsoft are serious about exclusivity, a new unannounced title wouldn't be on PS5. Be interesting to see how e-day sells later this year
Dang, I said if it was priced properly I'd pick it up, and $50 is fine for a Remake. Zero chance I'm paying $20 extra for Early Access, cosmetics, & art books I'll never look at though.
@Juanalf Low stakes conspiracy. Xbox knows Gears won't shift on the Xbox either, in either sales or increased GP subs. It's a franchise that was last relevant in 2011. They can point to figures and say "look guys we tried" and carry on making money on PS5. Halo is guaranteed to shift copies and won't support that outcome.
There is no competitive mode. Do we know a price or if the whole game is even on the disc?
At this point in time it seems fair to presume that no more Halo ganes will ever be on the PS5 (until MS changes their minds again, that is). So this is basically "part 1" for the series as a whole that you have to pay for. Essentially a an ad for Xbox that you pay for.
It would be like Disney+ charging you to watch season 1 of Game of Thrones and then you would still need HBO/WB to see the rest.
This is just odd and it surprises me a little bit to see anyone excited for this now. Before, when it was just a half-baked experience with the idea of more Halo on PS, I could understand somewhat. But now... that's a no from me, dawg.
Can't wait to play this for the millionth time.
@WhoderMan Standard Edition will cost $50, other Edition with Early Access, Art Books, & cosmetics will cost $70.
You really should have had an option for "No, I've already played it and don't feel any need to buy it again.
I’ll definitely be getting it, just not on day 1. Probably wait for a sale like I usually do with most games.
@AdamNovice I mean, it's not like they've gone back amd forth on Gears, they never said which platforms it was on.
And as for the overall direction, this is basically the first we've seen of the new leaderships direction. Halo was already announced for PS5 before they took charge, they were hardly going to unannounced it.
@Lysterao Except State of Decay, Minecraft Dungeons, Spyro and Senua were never announced yet all are coming to PS5, hence the confusion.
I’ll be playing this for sure, looks great 🙂
Unless I get wind of something weird it seems like a day 1 game for me.
What is "Halo PS5"?
@DennisReynolds its actually a strategy, PS player try for the first this old games (Halo, Gears), and if you really like and want to continue playing you need to buy the other console.
Can you imagine a racing fan PS only player, trying for the first time Forza. If Forza 7 became a Xbox exclusive again next generation, maybe they can atract some players for their side, who knows.
Was very welcome seeing Xbox classics Gears and Halo coming to Playstation. Now that Gears Reloaded is now potentially the only Gears on PlayStation, I doubt I'll bother with Halo as this might do the same as Gears. Don't really see the point in checking 1 game out of a series when there's 6 or 7 other games in the series that I don't have access to. No big deal at all tho put moneys elsewhere on plenty of other fun games
@AdamNovice Ermm this is pretty smart if u ask me. They want halo to be their trojan horse.. sony struggling with fps mulitplayer.. boom microsoft comes over ps store with theirs instead. Halo is up there with COD(in terms of recognition) so they are probably expecting the fps shooter boys on playstation will turn up for that, we will see but wont suprise me if this sells well. Alot of guy who migrated to ps from 360 will probably be there for this, who knows. Gear just isnt halo so why bother
@AdamNovice Minecraft Dungeons 2 was previously announced for PS5, to be fair. Its release date actually leaked on the Nintendo eShop a few days prior. There's no way Microsoft would make a Minecraft game exclusive to Xbox
But I do agree with the rest of your statement. What Microsoft is doing with Senua, State of Decay 3, etc. is definitely confusing
I was not sure about buying this game after the announcement that the new Gears is going to be exclusive fearing the next Halo is also going to be exclusive, but the remake looks awesome and a fiends want to play it with me so I will bite the bullet.
@DennisReynolds I'll still try it. For all we know, this is the only Halo game that'll get a full remake, anyway
Microsoft just announced any ports like Halo, FH6, will still come to PS. Sounds like the rest of the games may never though.
This isn't an Xbox exclusive like Gears E-day? I guess MS believes Halo isn't as precious / important as Gears huh.
@DennisReynolds cause one is better than none? I bought Forza for my godson. If that's the only one we ps gamers are getting, so be it.
@Lukeaj93 there's no multi player in this
@AdamNovice it's a remake of a 25 year old game it's not a new eventry in a franchise like gears
@DennisReynolds do people invest in games? You buy a game and play it. Such a bizarre mentality to have I'm not going to play something because I can't play a sequel? How does that work for stand alone games like bloodbourne
@PSXB judging by the sales of Xbox games on Playstation, PlayStation users do very much like Xbox games. Only loud online fanboys will tell you otherwise
@DennisReynolds exactly, this is why I will sit on the fence and not buy as I originally intended. No point in owning just 1 game out of the halo series
excellent i look forward to screaming at my tv and chucking my dualsense on the sofa because the library is still rage inducing.
@Toot1st Bloodborne doesn't have sequels while Halo has tons.
