Considering how much bank Capcom is making, having an additional studio location is a good move to help free up resources among long-running titles and new games. SF6 definitely felt like that for people (those that had an addict itch to buy costumes lol) on the lead up to MH Wilds releasing.
Honestly makes sense they aren't super bothered by it considering their on and off support DNF Duel. Game did ok on launch, but it did kinda drop off quickly for most people but it must of sold well enough for Nexon to greenlight a Switch port and an additional year of dlc, so clearly I think they care less if these games do well, and more if it causes more people check out actual Dungeon & Fighter and get them hooked with micro transactions.
I mean I don't think the CEO stepping down is an inherent sign that the game flopped, CEO shake ups can just kinda happen at anytime. But I will say that obviously Saudi Arabia's marketing hasn't attracted as wide of an audience that this was hoping to achieve, but I will say that I don't think the game is just doomed. They still have the entire year of characters coming, the Championship they have going is still going, and EVO and EWC haven't happened yet so I bet the game could still have some momentum after launch.
@thefourfoldroot1 For fighting games they are. These games are still alive because people have played these against one another for years competively. Having good online is a must for these games, especially even if these games were console versions, most games here would be super content light. Trust me, they're much better if you just try to play them online even casually
Oh wow they're really drip feeding Premium titles now huh. But besides that if I had extra this is a great month. Especially with GBFVSR being a huge highlight imo here, but Sand Land, Soul Hackers 2, Humankind, all games I've been wanting to try, so I would definitely say this is a quality month
I think the fact that we keep having this issue is crazy. I get PS5 has all of the fighting games people are playing and is the "easiest" to transport over a bunch of PC's but there has to be better ways to do this.
I think PS3 and maybe Vita emulation should be figured out sooner rather than later on PS5 because I think that it would good on Sony if they were able to have almost all digital PS3 and Vita games be playable right away because of your PSN Account. I think that would bring lots of goodwill, and would allow Sony to just have almost the entire PS3 PSN Catalog be sold all over again to people.
COD is 100% going to 80 there's no doubt about it. If that sells well this year, then yeah we're just going to have to get used to this if we want to buy new games.
If only people weren't using the worst arguments against this. The graphics and budget comparisons are stupid because cartoony graphics don't mean they aren't detailed, and since when have we been using large budgets as positives? I thought we wanted that to be lower for Triple A games, which Nintendo is good at. The hardcore Sony fanboys don't have a good argument here imo besides that $80 is kinda high, which Sony is going to take advantage of soon enough anyways
I don't think the game is doomed from it's slower start, most SNK games are usually a bit smaller, I just think the marketing budget is being footed by the Saudi Well-Fund big time just to try and see what they can do. Plus I bet that the game as it goes on is going to pick up more steam as it goes on with EVO and stuff. Not to mention a lot of people are now just kinda annoyed by Ronaldo and like Gannaci now.
Pretty good review in terms of the more casual side. Whenever I would get my hands on the game I would probably end up rating it a bit higher but I'm the type of weirdo that is way too into these games (obviously) so it's good to get that insight. I would say my main reservation rn is just that we don't know what the matchmaking will be like on launch, but if the second beta matchmaking is there, I think this would be a worthwhile game for more casuals to try out.
Also sorry @get2sammyb you aren't beating the Mai simp allegations based in your screenshots lol
The marketing they're putting into this is definitely super crazy. Even if it is weird and that they have access to the Saudi's oil money, I do hope it does find great success because the game is super fun and I want more fighters to be able to pierce super mainstream spaces worldwide like MK and Smash since the average person would only talk about them.
Man I'm surprised these regions got the price hike before the US. Sony's lucky they already have lots of systems in homes because once that price hike hits the US substantially, I think Playstation console sales legit might just hault. Definitely going to give Nintendo a leg up there again in terms of pricing
I don't think this is the best place to determine if Switch 2 could become a main console for people, because obviously the die hard Playstation fans aren't going to switch. The casual people that only buy the average triple A titles and stuff I think very much could make it a primary if enough major 3rd party titles come over and it keeps people to stay with them on Switch 2
Yeah these are weirs characters, but lets face it this is probably up to Saudi Arabia's influence rather than SNK. Plus not to mention that the first year of dlc characters are free does kinda make up for it, even if 2 of those characters are more guests
I think that these games simply didn't sell as well as I think they could because A. They are kinda old titles for simple PS5 ports (besides Obsidian's games) in terms of they were past their hype cycle, B. Most of them were too niche in the mainstream besides Sea of Thieves to make the previous point matter, and C. These ports got no marketing so the ones that were going to do big numbers were always the big titles that the mainstream already know about. I will say though Pentiment only selling 14k on other platforms is really bad if that's true. I feel like it just really didn't get enough attention or most people interested in it already played it elsewhere because I feel like that was one of the titles that could benefit most from going multiplatform because it was a game that just felt like it was gonna go completely ignored on Xbox. I feel like it was simply lack of marketing really on this one because I feel like it would of done pretty well for it's size at least on Switch
@arsmolinarc He's actually on the base roster, and the first season of DLC is free with the game so really he's just another character you get to play in the game as a part of the base package.
SNK's master ploy to get people into City of the Wolves is the wackiest but honestly coolest inclusions ever. They didn't have to make him a character, let alone a base roster character, but they did it and he looks pretty cool to play as well. Hopefully this will help Fatal Fury so much.
Ok this is a really stupid move. There's a reason basically every fighter that has throws following Super Turbo has you set back to neutral and avoids chip damage upon techning, because that makes throw, which are already strong, even stronger as you will get a reward no matter what for landing a throw. Like imagine SF6 throw loops with this, people would riot instantly
I think Sega is in a really good place right now with the stuff they still have for the future, so them taking a lighter year to build up their teams is very good. They could very well also use this to buy up another studio if they desired, which in that case I hope Sega would get LizardCube if Shinobi is successful, because they just don't stop making bangers and would probably be a greta asset for Sega to make smaller titles
Really glad to see its off to a great start, because even though I haven't been able to get into the series yet, I know the success of this game is going to allow Capcom's amazing lineup of titles to be even better and more diverse. Now if only they could help transfer this momentum into people buying and playing SF6 lol
I do think its odd these are only being added now, but hey I think it shows how committed Digital Eclipse is to these titles. Hopefully these are included on the physical release!
I think the AA space is much more easily successful now with the rise of ballooning budgets because the reason I feel like games like Gravity Rush 2 didn't end up as successful (besides it being a sequel if a Vita game), was that Sony didn't market them when they were placed somewhat close in packed release schedules of bigger titles with less than proper marketing. Sony is in a huge release drought of titles, so having smaller, cheaper titles like Astro Bot being able to get spaced out between bigger releases would allow Sony to make them look like a much bigger release, and thus more people would check it out. I think that could help a lot if Sony is gonna keep endlessly committing to how they currently develop their triple A titles
Top 3 are Saros, Shinobi, and Sonic Racing. Although Darwin's Paradox and the new Mignight Walk footage coming in close and would be there if it was top 5.
I know people will probably just nag and just beg for a new title in a existing franchise from Konami, but I think them doing new titles is great for them because it shows they aren't just going to coast with what everyone knows, and want to actually try and make some new experiences as well. Really interested to learn more about this one.
Lol I guess if anything this makes owning a PS5 more valuable considering I can be more certain that Sony's games will at least run decent compared to PC I guess lol
@GymratAmarillo KI is actually pretty active on both Xbox and PC. Sure it obviously isn't the biggest game, but it has more than a good number of people playing and there's a good amount of single player content as well.
Bro KI would be the best pick ever to come multiplatform, at least for me. I've been wanting to play it for a while, and if it came over it would be an amazing package to get into.
@FinneasGH I will say Rivals is kind of the other way, as they have a paid premium title, but because of that I believe they are much more kind with their costumes and monetization, and thus all of their future characters and major content are free instead. It's more so about how Rivals wants to be a game that lives on with live service elements, compared to Multiversus wanting to be a live service that has to stand up as a game.
THE PAC IS BACK ONCE AGAIN Been really wanting to play Re-Pac for a while so I'm happy it's here. Been curious about High on Life and the PAYDAY games as well so I would say this is a good month honestly. If this is the point where the months start to get worse from here, then I can be happy with my Plus Sub lasping.
A yearly FIFA underperforming? Do I believe what I am seeing? I must be in a world where some people are wising up to the annual full priced, microtransaction riddled sports title somehow! Either that or just that some other mainstream games have been taking up time and money from casual game players which would explain this dip, since that's usually how most sports titles sell anyways
Man really good games can't stop leaving every month, huh. Well I would recommend checking out the SF 30th Anniversary Collection and DBFZ. Both really good fighter packages that are worth getting into even after they leave
Stanley Parable and Hot Pursuit are games I've been wanting to play for a while now. I know Suicide Squad is definitely not the best choice here, but I will say that I am at least interested in it since parts of it in the trailers looked kinda fun to me, so I would say this is a good way to start the month
@Flaming_Kaiser I mean not exactly, I think quite a few of the stages as is are perfectly good as is. I'm more so saying that there's just a few moments (mainly the bosses) that just need some tuning to speed up more, and maybe just a few level design tweaks. The allocation of budget is more so about getting rid of the multiplayer stuff (which doesn't flow with the game as is), and just using the time spent on that on maybe at least 1 or more new stages and just tightening up the overall game more. And I do think a lower price would of made it sold better because then more people would of been willing to pick up an obviously much smaller game than its contemporaries.
I recently got the game a month or so ago for like $20 physically and played it co-op with my brother and we had a pretty decent time, but I think this game wanted to make itself seem bigger than it really was for its budget. I think the base game is pretty decent, but man it just really was not a good proposition next to Mario Wonder. Because Wonder has better multiplayer, more polished presentation, and simply much more content for the same price. If they reallocated their budget more to maybe fix some of the games' pacing/level design issues, maybe retooled the bosses, and just added more new zones instead of going all in on the multiplayer co-op and battle modes, and maybe made it a bit cheaper if you were going to keep it at around the same content level, then I think it could of done much better, but with how it is currently, I think the only people left interested in it are just going to get it on sale.
Damn Sony sure did pull a fast one on us with the Premium selection this month. Well hey at least I will try and defend Sonic Frontiers here. I quite enjoyed it as a new take on what Sonic could be structurally, and just controlling Sonic made it feel really fun to go through
