I do think its odd these are only being added now, but hey I think it shows how committed Digital Eclipse is to these titles. Hopefully these are included on the physical release!
I think the AA space is much more easily successful now with the rise of ballooning budgets because the reason I feel like games like Gravity Rush 2 didn't end up as successful (besides it being a sequel if a Vita game), was that Sony didn't market them when they were placed somewhat close in packed release schedules of bigger titles with less than proper marketing. Sony is in a huge release drought of titles, so having smaller, cheaper titles like Astro Bot being able to get spaced out between bigger releases would allow Sony to make them look like a much bigger release, and thus more people would check it out. I think that could help a lot if Sony is gonna keep endlessly committing to how they currently develop their triple A titles
Top 3 are Saros, Shinobi, and Sonic Racing. Although Darwin's Paradox and the new Mignight Walk footage coming in close and would be there if it was top 5.
I know people will probably just nag and just beg for a new title in a existing franchise from Konami, but I think them doing new titles is great for them because it shows they aren't just going to coast with what everyone knows, and want to actually try and make some new experiences as well. Really interested to learn more about this one.
Lol I guess if anything this makes owning a PS5 more valuable considering I can be more certain that Sony's games will at least run decent compared to PC I guess lol
@GymratAmarillo KI is actually pretty active on both Xbox and PC. Sure it obviously isn't the biggest game, but it has more than a good number of people playing and there's a good amount of single player content as well.
Bro KI would be the best pick ever to come multiplatform, at least for me. I've been wanting to play it for a while, and if it came over it would be an amazing package to get into.
@FinneasGH I will say Rivals is kind of the other way, as they have a paid premium title, but because of that I believe they are much more kind with their costumes and monetization, and thus all of their future characters and major content are free instead. It's more so about how Rivals wants to be a game that lives on with live service elements, compared to Multiversus wanting to be a live service that has to stand up as a game.
THE PAC IS BACK ONCE AGAIN Been really wanting to play Re-Pac for a while so I'm happy it's here. Been curious about High on Life and the PAYDAY games as well so I would say this is a good month honestly. If this is the point where the months start to get worse from here, then I can be happy with my Plus Sub lasping.
A yearly FIFA underperforming? Do I believe what I am seeing? I must be in a world where some people are wising up to the annual full priced, microtransaction riddled sports title somehow! Either that or just that some other mainstream games have been taking up time and money from casual game players which would explain this dip, since that's usually how most sports titles sell anyways
Man really good games can't stop leaving every month, huh. Well I would recommend checking out the SF 30th Anniversary Collection and DBFZ. Both really good fighter packages that are worth getting into even after they leave
Stanley Parable and Hot Pursuit are games I've been wanting to play for a while now. I know Suicide Squad is definitely not the best choice here, but I will say that I am at least interested in it since parts of it in the trailers looked kinda fun to me, so I would say this is a good way to start the month
@Flaming_Kaiser I mean not exactly, I think quite a few of the stages as is are perfectly good as is. I'm more so saying that there's just a few moments (mainly the bosses) that just need some tuning to speed up more, and maybe just a few level design tweaks. The allocation of budget is more so about getting rid of the multiplayer stuff (which doesn't flow with the game as is), and just using the time spent on that on maybe at least 1 or more new stages and just tightening up the overall game more. And I do think a lower price would of made it sold better because then more people would of been willing to pick up an obviously much smaller game than its contemporaries.
I recently got the game a month or so ago for like $20 physically and played it co-op with my brother and we had a pretty decent time, but I think this game wanted to make itself seem bigger than it really was for its budget. I think the base game is pretty decent, but man it just really was not a good proposition next to Mario Wonder. Because Wonder has better multiplayer, more polished presentation, and simply much more content for the same price. If they reallocated their budget more to maybe fix some of the games' pacing/level design issues, maybe retooled the bosses, and just added more new zones instead of going all in on the multiplayer co-op and battle modes, and maybe made it a bit cheaper if you were going to keep it at around the same content level, then I think it could of done much better, but with how it is currently, I think the only people left interested in it are just going to get it on sale.
Damn Sony sure did pull a fast one on us with the Premium selection this month. Well hey at least I will try and defend Sonic Frontiers here. I quite enjoyed it as a new take on what Sonic could be structurally, and just controlling Sonic made it feel really fun to go through
I'm at least glad that it will remain online because what I did play of the game was actually really fun, but I will be honest and say that after the first few times I played it I never ended up coming back to it. At least it can still be played at the very least so an entire game with said purchases made in it don't have to go away, at least currently
I will once again be here to shill for Judgement once again, as I will always say, it's peak. Mega Man 11 is also fantastic. I played it before my subscription expired and I think it's arguably my favorite Mega Man title next to 9.
I'm always willing to buy and play smaller titles, but I always feel like if it doesn't look like a game I would enjoy big budget or not, I won't play it because I have how many other games I really want to play
Knowing the Game Awards they're definitely going to suck up to From Soft for Shadow of the Erdtree, which feels very out of place. Also interesting that Balatro is here considering the other indie games that released this year that are considered the best that can be offered, Balatro is technically lesser in reviews that Animal Well & UFO 50, so that seem like an interesting inclusion
This is like a Joker moment with how dumb this list is. Like, 3 of the 5 titles are from 2023, and 4 of the titles are the most boring picks you could have. Like there should be so many better picks here. I hope Wizardy wins because at least that's a neat niche pick and would be cool for it to get recognition
@dark_knightmare2 This is probably in relation to the first 9 weeks of sales. I bet with sales and stuff that its sales will gradually increase overtime
@PuppetMaster No honestly I wouldn't think so that plat fighters doing well is just a matter of those factors, it's also about scope and public perception. Multiversus wanted to be the "Smash-killer" to say, but it simply can't kill Smash because Smash is well, Smash. People don't buy it for the gameplay completely, people buy it because it has Mario, Link, & Pikachu in a series that people know they can just pick up with friends for 30 minutes every once in a while. Nick All-Star Brawl I think actually did very well for itself, and the sequel did improve on everything that people complained about in the original, but it was really just like a quick fling with no regard with how people actually see the game as just a Smash "alternative" (considering how the original is still selling more than 2 because of just sale prices). Rivals is really interesting because I think Rivals is awesome, but all of Rivals 1's success with most people doesn't come from the actual game, it comes from Steam's mod support, and considering that 2 launched on Steam without Workshop Support and honestly looks a little barebones (from what I've seen of its features and content) so people are just gassing it up as a Smash killer because people haven't had any new Smash stuff since Sora released. But I think Rivals 2 is doing well as well because its a smaller title that doesn't need to worry about stuff in a similar way to NASB. It's just simply a matter of most people just only playing Smash, and seeing anything else like it as not worth the time.
I thankfully already have the Genesis Collection physically so at least I can still play them for right now hoe they are, but I would have to assume Sega is going to be trying to make a new thing for these games obviously since Sega obviously owns all of these games, so hopefully we can get a fully big boy collection that has almost anything a a Sega fan could want for like $60. Either that or Sega is just wanting to divert us away from old games to just play remakes which is kinda scummy there (probably for Jet Set most likely), but it is what they're doing for that game.
Been wanting to play Ghostwire for a while now and I heard Hot Wheels 2 is even better than the first game which was already pretty good, so I definitely happy there. Not really into Death Note so it's not the coolest day one game for Essential for me, but it's not like its the end of the world with the other two games
I do understand what's being said here, but I think that the after effects of Japan Studio's closure is being felt hard now, and arguably Astro Bot kinda shows that. The market now does want more unique and small experiences, and that is something this generation has lacked big time first party wise for Sony. I think Astro shows that people do sometimes want smaller titles that aren't the usual over-the-shoulder, cinematic, triple A experience all the time. Sometimes variety is truly the key.
Man Astro must be selling super well then. I have to wonder though why Sony hasn't said how many copies its sold. I feel like it has at least sold 1 million copies by now
Always crazy to me how much content RGG is able to always pack into every game, even when the game is a side-story that comes out so close to another game in the series. They really just have a good set-up to make quality titles yearly with no actual quality or content issues
Honestly this selling so many copies so fast so weird when DBFZ sold 2 million in a week. I just don't see much of the appeal here besides being a Dragon Ball fan with wanting to see Goku and Vegeta punch each other in 3D, because FighterZ sells me so much more when I'm not a Dragon Ball fan, because it wants to be a unique and deep fighter while all of the Budokai games just seem like button mashers. Of course if there are other gameplay appeals to others I'm willing to here, but what's actually on offer just doesn't make sense to me gameplay wise.
Honestly the fact they are willing to remaster hated games is good, because even bad games are still worth being remembered and preserved, and if this release can make said maligned games better, everyone wins at the end of the day

Decent month, but honestly I kinda wish Sony would be willing to put in some games to the monthly line-up from pre 2020. I feel like them needing to have super new games and needing to have one annual sports title regularly kinda hinders the line-up for me. Not to dis on anyone that like WWE, but a lot of the other titles like EAFC and NBA2K make the games feel a lot weaker to me certain months
Of course Fortnite is the future of games to Sweeney. It's not like that's his plan or anything, just what he thinks will happen with how consumers change their tastes from big budget games to a free to play game that has all of their friends and wants them to only play that game. No alter motive with him
Lol I claimed it for free during the pandemic instantly and still have yet to play it lol. Funny how a game that can be given away for free like that and was pennies otherwise, can just have a price increase for literally nothing new, and then pay even more for the minor enhancements on PS5
I'm very happy Vanillaware is seeing this level of success. I still want to try the game eventually, but I'm very busy right now with not just my backlog, but also my school work as a whole
I mean with all of the publishers out there wanting to always turn a profit, and risk takers don't mention said out-there endeavors, it's nice that Krafton is mentioning this in reference to a game like Hi-Fi Rush, which means I bet they're probably gonna let Tango go crazy. Can't say the same as a whole with The Callisto Protocol but hey, at least that didn't turn them off from being creatively risky
I feel like Astro is selling somewhat decent in Japan if we found out digital sales, but I think Japan might just be in a position rn where they aren't buying as many games because of the economy, and if Sony's audience in Japan would be wanting to come in with the PS5 and Astro, they are probably being stopped because of said price hikes, making it even more out of reach in their economy
I think he might just be salty his game gets a 70 and no hope from Sony for a sequel while Astro releases, becomes a GOTY contender, and gets showed with love all-over. He clearly just needs his own little room to vent out his personal disappointment from Sony lol
I'm super happy that SF6 is continue to sell pretty well in such a long term. Many people wait forever to actually pick up fighters but obviously SF6 is pulling people in consistently enough to warrent such a steady stream of people hopping on. Hopefully it continues to sell like this well into the future!

Re: Talking Point: Has the Market for AA Games on PS5 Really Disappeared?
