Capcom's been on a seemingly unstoppable winning streak for years now, but the company really seems to have hit a snag with Monster Hunter Wilds.
Despite racking up record sales on release back in February, the action RPG has seriously struggled to maintain commercial momentum. Capcom's most recent financial report tags Wilds at just 477,000 sales between the start of April and end of June, which is one hell of a drop off after selling over 10 million copies at launch.
Having described these sales as "soft", the publisher is now being hit where it hurts: right in the stock price. To be clear, Capcom's still making significant profit overall, but concerns surrounding Wilds' underperformance have dragged the company's stock price down by a steep 9.45% in Japan (as reported by Automaton).

This is probably why Capcom has expedited its update plans for Wilds, pulling anticipated endgame content from September's Title Update 3, and incorporating it into August's patch 1.021 instead. The developer's clearly keen to tempt players back into the game, and bolster word of mouth.
Indeed, word of mouth has arguably been Wilds' biggest issue. Particularly on PC, the title suffers from some shockingly poor optimisation, which has led to a seemingly endless barrage of negative reviews on Steam.
Wilds just can't seem to shake its shoddy reputation, and Capcom will know that it has to try and repair the damage going forward. It's got a long way to go if it wants to eventually match up to the unrivalled success of Monster Hunter World.
