18 years I've hoped and waited for this. Very impressed with how it looks considering the low budget. Although I literally wouldn't care if it looked exactly like the old Dreamcast games. I'm just happy it exists.
I was just about to comment that I hate the music, but great to see that mentioned above. I think Streets of Rage 1 and 2 nailed it. They had such a cool vibe. I hated the music in 3 though it just didn't fit. Hopefully they can sort it out for 4 before release as everything else looks spot on. The music is such a massive part of what makes the games so guuurd.
I tried the Beyond update first on my old 100 hour save. It did seem sluggish and the game crashed on me. I'll come back to that when it's had a few patches. But when I started a new game in VR, I had no issues whatsoever with performance. No motion sickness either. So VR is definitely my preferred option for NMS now.
@LieutenantFatman Yep I've just come off it now. Decided to restart the game for VR (although I'm not gonna erase my 100+ hour save)
My own first impressions playing on a PS4 Pro....
Wow. They really have spent a lot of time on the VR content it's not just NMS 2D in VR. Lots of new mechanics. It feels like it was built from the ground up as a VR game.
Looks great (PSVR headset resolution aside)
Everything looks huge. The trees ships mountains etc.
It took me about an hour to really get the hang of the controls with the Move controllers. I found them quite confusing at first but stick with it and it'll all just start to click and make sense. @DigiTM Movement on foot is by teleportation which I normally don't bother with, but it's actually really fun and quick to get about. After an hour of playing I don't miss playing with free movement at all. First time I can say that about a VR game.
Getting in the cockpit is an amazing moment. Lots of details.
Eventually, once I'd repaired my ship and got fuel I finally did the whole taking off thing and it's incredible. Got the hang of that in a few minutes, then went into space while looking down at the planet I'm leaving behind. Possibly the most amazing gaming experience I've had. The vastness of the game really pops in VR.
To finish, if you liked NMS before then you should love it. Anyone with PSVR should try this. But if you hate NMS then it's maybe not for you. I can't wait to play some more.
I don't really understand the agreement to be honest. Could someone break it down. Are Sony going to be using Microsoft tech for cloud gaming and if so why. Don't Sony already have decent tech for cloud gaming with the Gaikai PlayStation Now?
My point is they could patch the PS4 game to upscale like the Pro since PS4 games will work on a PS5 anyway. Not having to re-buy software for small gains is gonna shift more hardware.
I don't really understand the need for two separate versions of the game. PS4 games will work on PS5 just fine. Just seems a little pointless. I'm certainly not paying for a slightly better version of games on PS5 if I already own the PS4 version.
I'd expect Pro like enhancements to PS4 games running on a PS5 anyways. For example, won't an SSD in the PS5 mean that PS4 games will load faster on it?
@stuzster yep. That was what my point was. I don't feel entitled to anything other than what I'm getting. Thanks for articulating it better than I can.
Whatever the situation. I don't think it was right. As I've already said. My original post had nothing to do with the PC. I was talking about the season pass on PS4. I don't disagree about Epic.
People love to complain. The game is coming and it's looking great. The season pass could help make Shenmue 4. Let's wait and see what it is before judging.
Will definitely be picking this one up. Probably around £15 price range. Job Simulator was my first Platinum trophy so it'll always have a nice place in my heart.
I clicked on this thinking it was the remake but that was my own error not the review. It's very clear. I also think retro reviews are awesome. Nice work @JamieO
@Stocksy Just my opinion but I don't think retro games should be graded by today's standards. The original Metal Gear Solid would be slaughtered if compared to modern games and that's a stone cold classic. It's a product of it's time, just like CTR.
@stuzster Oh I didn't mean that the Kickstarter entitles to a pass. Just that I hope the game sells well. As in, I worry how many copies of the game will actually sell after X amount have already got the game via the Kickstarter (myself included) And the relatively small fan base. So I'm in agreement with your concerns.
I can see I didn't make that very clear at all so thanks for the query. I just want Yu Suzuki to complete his story so I hope enough copies of the game sell for a Shenmue 4 to be possible.
I agree with previous comments. 2020 is gonna be amazing with all the games mentioned already. Not to mention surprises along the way. For example VR games which we tend to hear about nearer release date.
@Nyne11Tyme Yeah I was trying to think of a comparison but it's kinda unique.
Maybe it won't be, but I don't want the later erm games/chapters/installments (or whatever they are gonna be called) to be held back in some way due to what'll be last gen tech by the later games.
@Nyne11Tyme If they are expanding each one like they say they are, and treating each part like a full size game with its own conclusions, then its not that different to say Uncharted 4 being on PS4 but not PS3.
@vitalemrecords 2021 for the whole lot?... Sounds like it's gonna come in more than two releases. The first is coming on two discs alone, and supposedly as big as a regular full game. Time will tell but I wouldn't hold your breath.
If PS4 games work on a PS5 I won't be paying more to upgrade the graphics for a game I'll have already played by then. Especially if these upgrades are marginal and purely cosmetic. The PS4 Pro does this at no extra cost.
(Edit: I'm talking about the Pro patch updates for games, not the console as apparently that's not clear enough already...)
Honestly, I'm done with re-buying the same games every generation. If I can play my PS4 version of FF7 Remake on my PS5 why pay again for some silly upgrades. Just make the game upscale on PS5 with a free patch and give people an incentive to go out and buy a PS5.
I went for the $60 physical copy. Paid for it that long ago that by the time Shenmue 3 comes out it'll feel like I'm getting the game for free. So excited to play it.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Won't Be Playable or Shown Publicly at Madrid Games Week, Sony Confirms
I don't really need to see anything about the game until it comes out. its not like i need any convincing.
Re: Guide: Upcoming PSVR Games in 2019
I feel like we need a few new VR game announcements. It's getting a little quieter recently.
Re: Guide: All PS4 Games With Cross-Console Play Compatibility
I'm just waiting for Apex Legends to get cross-play.
Re: Incoming No Man's Sky PS4 Patch Will Improve Image Quality in PSVR Mode
I was happy enough with how NMS looks in VR anyways so it's all a bonus.

Re: Rumour: Sony Has Something PlayStation-Related Planned for the End of September
As a minimum I'd expect confirmation of a PS4 that can dock like a Switch.
A cheap base PS4 with no disc drive.
A decent PS4 Pro price reduction.
PSVR2 wireless and fully BC.
Brand new Move Controllers with anologue sticks
Full PS5 reveal priced at £399 tops.
Think that's fair enough.
Re: Beloved 16-Bit Disney Games Aladdin and The Lion King Reportedly Getting PS4 Remasters
Oh yes. I would love this. Please be true.
I have very fond memories of the Mega Drive originals.
Re: Control - Was Remedy's Return to PlayStation Worth the Wait?
Will wait for the £20 price range when the patches have ironed things out.

Re: Hands On: No Man's Sky Beyond Brings a New Lease of Life to the Ambitious Adventure
@mantralux apparently NMS in VR does have an option to play with the pad and full movement. So no teleportation or click movement needed.
Re: No Man's Sky Beyond Patch 2.04 Fixes Some Nasty Crashing Issues on PS4

Re: No Man's Sky Beyond Patch Notes Are Truly Gigantic and Game-Changing
I agree with comments about a new review. It's a very different game to 3 years ago. I think the old review needs to go and be completely re-done.
I have a 100+ hour save but I'm starting again for this.
Re: No Man's Sky Beyond Is Available to Download Now on PS4
My mind and body are so ready for this. Gonna be a long day at work today...
Re: Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot - An Unexpectedly Impressive PSVR Excursion
You mentioned in the review it's 4 missions and quite short. How long is the game roughly and does it have any replayability.

@Flaming_Kaiser I agree with you on that. Although I believe they have offered refunds. Still not right to lock Steam out.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Signals the Need for a PS4 Super Slim
The PS4 really need to come down in price now. It's crazy that the RRP of the Pro is still £349. That's what I paid for my OG PS4 at launch.
Re: New Shenmue III Screenshots Show Chai, Fully Playable Arcade
Also looks like a Virtua Fighter arcade behind Ryo's face. Bit blurred but that looks like Akira.
Re: Days Gone's Second Free DLC Challenge Available Now
@AdamNovice Thank you. Much appreciated.
Re: Days Gone's Second Free DLC Challenge Available Now
Not got this yet. Are the DLC challenges time limited or can I jump in and play them all in say 3 months time?
Re: Sairento - A Fun, Kinetic Ninja Action Game for PSVR
Literally heard nothing about this at all until this review. VR games seem to pop up out of nowhere. Will keep an eye out for this on the PSN.

@Deanvon01 will do. Thanks. 👍
Re: Dreams Early Access Now Has Over 100,000 Users on PS4
I worry every time I load Dreams up. My PS4 fan goes crazy every time I play this game. I'm using a PS4 Pro. Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Being Developed as a PS4 and PS5 Title
@Nyne11Tyme Yeah I was trying to think of a comparison but it's kinda unique.
Maybe it won't be, but I don't want the later erm games/chapters/installments (or whatever they are gonna be called) to be held back in some way due to what'll be last gen tech by the later games.
It really is a strange situation.

Re: E3 2019: Shenmue III Will Not Even Hit the Halfway Point of Ryo's Story
So hopeful that this is a commercial success. At least to the point that we get another sequel.
Yu Suzuki needs complete detailed plans for Shenmue laid out for completion in his will, just in case. 😁
Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Being Developed as a PS4 and PS5 Title
@vitalemrecords see you in 2030 then... I joke, sort of. 😆
Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Being Developed as a PS4 and PS5 Title
@carlos82 agreed. That's what I'm thinking.
Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Being Developed as a PS4 and PS5 Title
@manu0 very good, you've taken a quote out of context.
I thought it was obvious but I was talking about the games, not the console.
The games upscale on the Pro and that's how it should work playing the PS4 FF7 Remake on a PS5.
Re: E3 2019: Shenmue III Battles on Boats, Saves Children in Trailer
@Danloaded yeah a small delay to January would be a good idea. So March it is then.
Re: E3 2019: Shenmue III Battles on Boats, Saves Children in Trailer
@stuzster one issue I worry about is that many of the dedicated fans will be getting the game at no extra cost due to the Kickstarter.
Re: E3 2019: Shenmue III Battles on Boats, Saves Children in Trailer
@Danloaded I don't disagree and could see it getting delayed one more time but next year is already getting crowded too.
Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Being Developed as a PS4 and PS5 Title

Call it Final Fantasy 7: Modern Warfare. That title hasn't been used enough.
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Introduce a Game Pass Subscription of Its Own?
No thanks. I have enough subscriptions as it is. PS Plus, Netflix, Amazon prime, NOW TV, WWE Network, Spotify/Google Play Music.
I'm good with buying games that I want. And if I can't afford them, I'll wait for a discount.
Re: E3 2019: Lucky Hit, Toy Capsules Star in Shenmue III's PS4 Gameplay

Re: E3 2019: Final Fantasy VII Remake's 'First Game' Takes Place in Midgar Alone
@johncalmc wow, fair enough. I assumed incorrectly then. That's a real shame.
