It’s clear which path Sony have decided to take their gaming division. They won’t say it out load but single player narrative games just aren’t the priority anymore and over the next 10 years we’ll see less and less of them. That’s okay though because we still have many many devs that will make these games for pc and console. Sony give me no reason to buy their hardware anymore though
@JackiePriest it won’t burst! The building of these ai systems is encouraged by nation states! This isn’t a consumer bubble like the internet or bitcoin.
@BrockSmith a company could theoretically build a new fab but the problem isn’t just the building. Semiconductor wafer tooling costs billions of pounds and takes years to make, all companies that build the tooling and abatement equipment are already producing at levels above post pandemic (the market was booming after Covid) these shortages will 100% last 5 years before starting to ease as data centres start finishing up and new capacity comes online.
On the plus side I’m certain the whole team will easily get funding to start a new studio of they wanted. I’d laugh so hard if they somehow rebranded and went on to make multi platform bangers
They probably weren’t see as capable of making live service slop for Sony. What’s happened to this brand. I’m definitely buying steam machine and ditching console
Sony are only selling this many ps5’s because Xbox have effectively dropped out of the market. With healthy competition the ps5 would be way way behind the ps4.
@Vaako007 the geopolitical situation has changed so much that the west will 100% build enough capacity for themselves. Tsmc will likely fall under Chinese control in the next 5 years (hence the reason it’s rigged to explode in any invasion scenario) America can’t and won’t allow the whole tech industry be controlled by china. But as you say building the infrastructure and capacity will take many years.
@NavalHistorian semiconductor fabs are being built all over america and eventually Europe (Europe was delayed as trump forced companies to prioritise America) these fabs will take at least 5 years to complete.
Right now the world is running all fabs at 100% capacity so unless new fabs come online or we have a massive reduction in demand (ai bubble burst) every tech product the uses a microchip will be effected by shortages.
The “ai bubble” as people call it is highly unlikely to burst due to America and china being in an arms race to produce AGI. The first country to realise AGI will unlock huge economic growth (the likes we’ve never seen before) this will propel the winning nation into the world’s global power possibly forever. Hence the reason the bubble will not burst!
The industry doesn’t make many true rpg’s anymore. For example I don’t categorise avowed, starfield, assassins creed and games like that as rpg’s. The reason I say that is because generally you have very little role playing you can actually do. Having a skill tree doesn’t make it an rpg.
Where as games like kingdom come deliverance 2, baldur's gate 3 and elden ring are examples of classic rpgs. The industry wants to kill the classic rpg off because you have to create so much content that won’t necessarily be seen by a big proportion of the players. It’s not cost efficient to the big devs who only care about maximising profits.
It will be discless as standard with the option of buying a disc drive. But let’s be honest 95% of games for the ps6 won’t have a physical disc on release anyway.
@Fyz306903 arc raiders had no problem finding an audience. I’m sure marathon will find an audience. Truth is highguard was a very middle of the road game! The reason it failed is 100% because of this and nothing else.
I don’t have much sympathy for failed games tbh. You build your products in a brutally competitive market, in a cost of living crisis economy and then deliver something with missing features, in a saturated market and we are meant to “give it a chance” sorry my time is a more valuable asset than money and expecting people to spend that time on a subpar product is insanity.
No other market blames the customer for failed products. But for some reason when it happens in gaming it’s all grifters and social media’s fault that these games fail.
I watched the video on YouTube last night and to me it’s hard to see what’s going on during a lot of the match. The graphical style is so unique but for some reason just doesn’t look appealing to me watching.
I was a day one purchaser of dreams because I wanted to support the project. Creatively I’m useless so I knew I wouldn’t play it much but I did fine some gems to play.
Gatekeeping a game mode like this is stupid. Most people that like coop want to experience the game with someone else for the first time. I’m sure they’ll remedy this by making it available day one with a patch. Or cynically they could paywall it
When games get criticised by the general public people brush the comments off as trolls and grifters! When it’s one of the main original creators of the franchise it’s a lot more difficult to brush off.
@UltimateOtaku91 making games that your customer base aren’t interested in is a sure way to lose market share or worse. I don’t think anyone would have problems with Sony pushing for 3-4 live service games. People are pissed that they forced nearly all their devs to make one. Either way complaining about complainers is moronic
@UltimateOtaku91 why is criticism trolling? People are genuinely not impressed by this game. This whole narrative about grifters and trolls is ridiculous.
We’ve seen the poll results in this very website be dismissed as “just a load of people that never had any intention of buying the game” that’s cope on an industrial scale.
If its gameplay loop is fun and the loop has enough content this will do fine. The art style will certainly drive some people away though. Is the game going be watchable like pubg and arc? We’ll see I guess.
It’s certainly not true that all live service game streams get negativity during live streams! It’s just a lie that gets told so the media can blame players for developers failures.
The world of creative media is very simple! Find an audience fast or you’ll be in for a career change! Same for television, novelists, musicians, comedians, actors and game devs. It’s a buyers market!
Let’s be honest Guerrilla we’re forced to make this game rather than having any passion for making it. Somehow it’s canon but with magic?! There were probably much better ways to make horizon a multiplayer game but they went for the most generic, trend chasing slop they could! It’s hardly surprising that the reaction has been so awful.
But remember they showed this game early so they could gather feedback. I imagine they will either massively rework this or just fire it out asap and let it die a quick death.
The rom hacking community really do some amazing work with these old games. Some of the best 2d Mario content comes from the community. Some of the hacks take years to complete

@Number09 I work In the semiconductor industry I can assure you these shortages will last years. Maybe 5 years

@TrollOfWar so many people will either give up or pay a little extra to move into the pc ecosystem.

I’m sure Sony would love me to spend a small fortune on a new console with virtually zero difference to game performance and graphics.

They will 100% remove them! No one has the guts to make any media that is edgy these days. We live in a sterile society run by whiners and wimps.
Edit: also gta6 will likely remove the ability to sleep with hookers. I just don’t understand why we bother with age ratings tbh.
Re: Sony Considering PS6 Delay to 2028 or Even 2029, New Report Says
