Re: Opinion: Sony's Disgraceful Bluepoint Closure Should Concern Every PS Studios Fan

Boxmonkey

It’s clear which path Sony have decided to take their gaming division. They won’t say it out load but single player narrative games just aren’t the priority anymore and over the next 10 years we’ll see less and less of them. That’s okay though because we still have many many devs that will make these games for pc and console. Sony give me no reason to buy their hardware anymore though

Re: Memory Crisis Threatening to Delay PS6 Could Last 'Another 10 Years'

@BrockSmith a company could theoretically build a new fab but the problem isn’t just the building. Semiconductor wafer tooling costs billions of pounds and takes years to make, all companies that build the tooling and abatement equipment are already producing at levels above post pandemic (the market was booming after Covid) these shortages will 100% last 5 years before starting to ease as data centres start finishing up and new capacity comes online.

Re: Sony Will Offset Soaring RAM Prices by Further Monetising PS5 Players

Boxmonkey

@Vaako007 the geopolitical situation has changed so much that the west will 100% build enough capacity for themselves. Tsmc will likely fall under Chinese control in the next 5 years (hence the reason it’s rigged to explode in any invasion scenario) America can’t and won’t allow the whole tech industry be controlled by china. But as you say building the infrastructure and capacity will take many years.

@NavalHistorian semiconductor fabs are being built all over america and eventually Europe (Europe was delayed as trump forced companies to prioritise America) these fabs will take at least 5 years to complete.

Right now the world is running all fabs at 100% capacity so unless new fabs come online or we have a massive reduction in demand (ai bubble burst) every tech product the uses a microchip will be effected by shortages.

The “ai bubble” as people call it is highly unlikely to burst due to America and china being in an arms race to produce AGI. The first country to realise AGI will unlock huge economic growth (the likes we’ve never seen before) this will propel the winning nation into the world’s global power possibly forever. Hence the reason the bubble will not burst!

Re: Is Crimson Desert an RPG? Weird Online Arguments Erupt as Dev Refuses to Call It One

The industry doesn’t make many true rpg’s anymore. For example I don’t categorise avowed, starfield, assassins creed and games like that as rpg’s. The reason I say that is because generally you have very little role playing you can actually do. Having a skill tree doesn’t make it an rpg.

Where as games like kingdom come deliverance 2, baldur's gate 3 and elden ring are examples of classic rpgs. The industry wants to kill the classic rpg off because you have to create so much content that won’t necessarily be seen by a big proportion of the players. It’s not cost efficient to the big devs who only care about maximising profits.

Re: Failing FPS Highguard's Concord Arc Seems Almost Complete as Website Goes Down

I don’t have much sympathy for failed games tbh. You build your products in a brutally competitive market, in a cost of living crisis economy and then deliver something with missing features, in a saturated market and we are meant to “give it a chance” sorry my time is a more valuable asset than money and expecting people to spend that time on a subpar product is insanity.

No other market blames the customer for failed products. But for some reason when it happens in gaming it’s all grifters and social media’s fault that these games fail.

Re: The Internet Has Not Been Kind to Horizon Hunters Gathering

Let’s be honest Guerrilla we’re forced to make this game rather than having any passion for making it. Somehow it’s canon but with magic?! There were probably much better ways to make horizon a multiplayer game but they went for the most generic, trend chasing slop they could! It’s hardly surprising that the reaction has been so awful.

But remember they showed this game early so they could gather feedback. I imagine they will either massively rework this or just fire it out asap and let it die a quick death.
