Hello Games has just unveiled its latest game-changing update for No Man's Sky, available to all players from today.
Entitled 'Cosmos', this free update to the space exploration and survival game focuses on, well, space, making significant additions that once again expand how you'll play.
There are many new features within the Cosmos update, but let's go over the biggest ones.
A new Star Map has been introduced. Separate from the Galactic Map, the Star Map hones in on the current star system you're in, showing you planets, space stations, and other points of interest in your vicinity.
In space, you can now find Hulks, which are vast constructs floating in the void that can be salvaged. Using the gravity gun, you can tear off big chunks of metal and break it down for resources, but getting too greedy could cause the Hulk to go into meltdown, which will result in a big explosion, so be careful.
Outposts are also new space-bound attractions. These are sort of like mini space stations where you can trade with alien lifeforms, take on quests, and learn more about the star system.
Things called Bio-wrecks can be found; these are condemned facilities that have been overtaken by dangerous organic hazards.
The Cosmos update adds asteroid belts, adding even more potential for gathering valuable resources out in space. Apparently, some asteroids may be large enough to land on, and even build a base on.
Speaking of which, you can now build bases in space. The game's base-building is now available away from planet surfaces, allowing you to construct your own outposts in the great nothing.
This update also adds the ability to buy and own a space station. If you have the resources, you can take ownership of space stations and outfit them as you please. Internal and external decoration is available, so you can make it your very own unique hub.
Alliances are another new feature. You can now create an alliance with other players, pooling your resources and working together to expand even further in No Man's Sky.
Finally, the update adds the ability to reach stars. You can now fly directly towards each system's star, which is probably fatal but it's cool you can do it.
On top of all that, Cosmos includes a new expedition called Our Journey Continues!, which essentially charts the entire history of the game's unrivalled slate of updates, including developer commentary and insight.
The full patch notes are here, if you want to see even more detail on the update.

I really wish they'd address how finicky the building mechanics are. For a game where building is so core to the experience, it always surprises me they refuse to refine the wonkiness that's been there from the beginning.
I want more biome variety.
Maybe... it's finally time to play this.
(I did actually buy it as part of my VR spending spree)
These guys are literally “we got one more in us” meme.
Between this, Valheim, Enshrouded, Runscape Dragonwilds and Dune Awakening all in the space of 10 days? Crazy stuff if your into survival games, I cant wait!
@captainsandman There's already an endless amount of biomes. What the game needs isn't more of them but multiple biomes on the same planet.
One of the best Developers in the business with an attitude that if adopted by everyone could change the entire industry overnight. I still have my day one little baby with it's tiny art-book and neat little box. There was so little content, I flew around and did some light building. Gamers erupted and demanded an actual game, it's been years and they still update it. Not just minor updates, huge ones.
I grew-up with that game. It was released one decade ago (going by August) and they are still going above and beyond like no other Developer I've seen. I looked at Rust yesterday, Seven GBP for a pair of underwear, something like double for a Brutalist building skin. Hello Games aren't charging for anything but the entry fee.
I love these devs
@PaperAlien I play both Valheim and Enshrouded on PC and I'm ready to send both saves/progress into the shadow dimension. Survivors are one of my favorite genres and PC is great but I started on console and anything else just feels wrong.
Honestly expected more and feel a little underwhelmed. The stuff included is really cool but its not the space rework it actually needed.
I have to ask : how do they find the money to do this? One game 10 years ago with an incredible amount of completely free updates, no microtransaction. Sine then, just a small game made by 3 people and that didn't bring any substantial profit... So where does the money come from?
This is unacceptable. They can't keep getting away with this.
@Olmaz It sold an insane amount at launch netting them millions what they invested back into the game. Its always been selling well since launch expecially as they have bought it to every device out there netting them more new sales. They have a Gamepass deal what is more money. The game is always on sale especially when around the time updates drop so they get more sales from that.
