Of over 2,500 enthusiast PlayStation gamers surveyed in a recent Push Square poll, an eye-watering 92% believe PS Studios needs new management.

This follows a slew of own goals from the current hierarchy, which has seen games cancelled, studios closed, and a lot of time lost.

As I wrote in a recent article, Naughty Dog hasn’t shipped a new game yet this generation, and neither has Sony Bend.

Bluepoint was assigned an online God of War game before the project was cancelled and the studio was subsequently shuttered.

Meanwhile, Guerrilla Games finds itself in a race against time to reboot its Horizon Hunters Gathering game, which has broadly been dismissed by fans. It has a “tiny team” prototyping a new single player Horizon game, which is reportedly years away.

Of course, it hasn’t been all bad: Astro Bot unanimously won Game of the Year, sequels like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have been commercially successful, and upcoming releases like God of War Laufey look great.

But outside of established franchises like Gran Turismo and MLB The Show, current management has failed to deliver on Sony’s live service ambitions.

I personally don’t believe it’s the wrong strategy, I just think the platform holder has failed to put the right tastemakers in place.

Couple all of the above with Sony’s decision to stop manufacturing physical games in 2028, and it’s clear the fanbase is frustrated.

But whether this will lead to any change in a term when the firm is forecasting a record breaking fiscal year remains to be seen.
