How many live service games make money? It can’t be a big percentage! But the few that do mange to hook a decent player base make huge sums of money using fomo and gambling tactics to drain the wallets of small percentage of whales. Horrible business model that hopefully gets banned by the eu.

The live service space is a tough nut to crack!

The thing that people seem to be overlooking is that these live service games are multi platform. Even if you are okay with Sony going down this route it will weaken their usp.

Without a big focus on single player exclusives Sony massively weaken their usp and give people a real decision to make. I would certainly consider going pc only next gen. The initial added expense can be offset by cheaper games.

Defending PlayStation and Sony after the mess they’ve made this gen is fanboy behaviour.

If this website doesn’t like negativity in the comments section maybe they should do what all the British news outlets have done and remove the comments section.

@get2sammyb I half agree! They shouldn’t really feel the need to explain themselves but as a fan base most players purchased a ps5 assuming Sony would continue making games similar to the ps4 generation.

If those players/customers feel they aren’t getting the games they expected after spending a decent sum of money on the console they have every right to moan. I imagine a lot of the people complaining will think twice before buying a ps6. That’s problematic for Sony.

Makes you wonder why horizon hunters was announced alone a week earlier than a state of play. I guess they knew it would go down badly so didn’t want it to be the only talking point from the sop.

@PuppetMaster this game isn’t separated from the main game it’s canon! The studio was obviously pushed into making this game hence the reason they start the introduction video in an almost apologetic manner.

The people have spoken! I can see this game being given a new look before being released. In the video the guy even said we are showing this at an early stage so we can gauge feedback.

They will 100% take extra time to reskin this ugly duckling. I still feel the general public will mostly reject this though. The YouTube videos over the next week are going to be brutal to this game (unfairly) because of the generic characters and inclusion of the large set lady. But the internet will internet no matter how much people moan about the “grifters”

@WhoderMan couldn’t agree more! People and publications run defence for games that the general public reject all the time. But it’s the “haters” that are at fault. They should just consume all the stuff they don’t want.

@cainhurst94 I mean horizon 3 could be the last game in the franchise (that’s single player) not that they won’t ever make another single player game again.

Push square should add a poll asking what people think of the art style because I think this one will split opinion quite a bit.

Would also be interesting to see how many of the original single player gamers that like horizon are interested in an online live service version. I imagine the percentage will be quite small which means this game needs to find a new audience

I instantly hate the cartoony art style! Why is this graphical style so prevalent these days? In fact I detest the way gaming is going with the constant obsession with making everything live service. If this is successful horizon 3 will probably be the last single player game we see.

That sounds dreadful! Can’t stand not having a functional button or control stick. The idea of having a flat surface with touch controls isn’t something I’d ever buy. I guess this would be some sort of pro controller rather than the standard type.

Season two was atrocious but they had to work with crap source material! They had no hope of fixing the built in flaws. Let’s be real we all knew season would be a disaster before it was released. Part 2 was probably the biggest letdown of any media product I’ve ever known. Technically part is good and as far as gameplay is concerned! The rest of it was utter garbage

That’s not a bad thing tbh. Season 2 fell off massively and I don’t see it recovering. Same as any third game that comes along (unless they start again with a whole new cast & writers)

This makes sense! It’s a quick easy win the the developers. They have instantly removed people’s biggest complaint.

@REALAIS oh yeah I completely agree! Without Geoff player numbers would have started at 10k. Geoff is guilty of hyping a bog standard (mobile quality) shooter. He tanked his own reputation more than the game.

Watching 2 hours of this game on twitch was enough for me to know this game was crap and will be dead my the spring. Nice to see an honest review of the game rather than the usual suspects giving it glowing praise.

They should be 4 times more interested because that’s how many more PlayStations there are over Xbox’s

Chinese devs are cooking these days. Eventually they will take a huge share of the gaming market especially if western devs stay ideologically captured (don’t @ me)

I really liked the first game until about the halfway mark then gave up. Might give this a go later

@trev666 most people don’t have the money to jus buy and try everything unfortunately. Especially considering the option of buying games on disc has almost vanished

@Oram77 yeah I also don’t use metacritic! YouTube is my go to place for reviews these days. There is far too much of a circle jerk going on with the media and publishers imo.

@Oram77 I have bigger problems with review websites giving artificially high scores for games. This Is scumbag behaviour because it’s aimed at ripping customers off and fooling them into buying subpar products.

This is actually a good idea! So many game review websites are blatantly taking cash for good reviews, or at least giving good reviews so they keep favour with the publishers. Hence the reason most people now only trust a handful of reviewers.

I think the game is still a long way off because of the crunch situation and reported missed deadlines. We’ve seen nothing of the actual game so far. Voice and character acting still happening.

Nothing about the situation gives me confidence of a near release date. I have every confidence the game will be great though.

This will be a ps6 release title! No way it releases this year or next.

Shallow gameplay loop where half the time you are doing busy work! This will be a ghost town by end of feb.

@Oram77 very slow boring game to watch! Looks clunky and quite slow to play. The best part of the game is the horse mounting is very fluid! From what I could tell it only has one game mode. I think this will fade very quickly.

@RudeAnimat0r this was meant to be the generation of live service games for Sony! But they fcked that up so now we get nothing.

Considering how slow this gen has been I think it’s for the best. We don’t need incremental upgrades that cost £700! Apart from quicker loading times the ps5 looks no better than the ps4 in my eyes

The devs going silent gives me the impression that they are confident in what they’ve built! Let the game speak for itself on launch. I hope they pull this off because it must be be so demoralising working for so long on something for it to get the hate it’s been getting.

Highguard has been treated very badly for closing the show. Especially considering the didn’t ask for that slot!! I feel if this game was mid show it wouldn’t have gotten any hate.

@Art_Vandelay anyone doing statistical modelling for future projects that take data from a once in a 100 year event are morons! Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. They expected a huge fall off as people went back to work but believed that the new customers that did stay would all buy their slop. What actually happened is people are now more selective with their disposable income so do research before buying. Hence the reason the slop merchants are all laying people off at record pace.

Probably reworking the monetisation systems 😁 all joking aside it seems Ubisoft will now start releasing games in a more complete state. I almost guarantee that they still make games that are a solid 7-8 rager than aiming for 9-10’s though. I don’t believe they see a problem with the generic, uninspiring games they release.

@Art_Vandelay more money was spent on games last year than any time during Covid! It’s just people are now spending the money on lower cost AA and indie games and avoiding the AAA slop factories. The downturn is only being felt at the top because the guys at the top have abused the customer base for far too long. “Gaming news” websites don’t report on this though for some reason?!

More success from Ubisoft! They can’t stop winning. Cant wait for all the generic open world slop they churn out from now on.

@UltimateOtaku91 why make things confusing. I’m sure anyone buying the collectors edition also wants the game.
