Re: Review: Batman: Arkham VR (PS4)

@JoeBlogs I do and it does. I've always had a soft spot for Nintendo stuff from my younger days. If you've ever got a spare £200-£300 lying around they're fairly easy to get from eBay

I'll have to check that episode out!

@JoeBlogs I do, kind of, which is where I had a fiddle with the Rift. Sod it. You only live once. Even if it ends up being a disaster it'll probably be a collectors item in 20 years like my Virtual Boy is now!

It's weird, because the reviews I'm seeing for both the games and the hardware seem to be predominantly positive, however there are some websites (kotaku for instance) who feel the PSVR is essentially broken. They referred to it as an "island for Sony's misfit toys."

I'm really excited for the launch next week, but it is unusual to see numerous writers giving it high praise, and a minority of others stating it's a waste of money and time. Normally I would just form my own opinion, but the admission price to do that in this instance is quite high.

Re: Soapbox: I Played PlayStation VR for Over an Hour and Didn't Chunder

@aric201812 yeah, I gave it a shake. To be fair to Oculus they provide a plethora of lens caps and other gubbins that you can pop in the headset, to help accommodate the visually challenged like myself. Unfortunately my eyes are a bit odd (an astigmatism in one eye plus short sightedness, and long sighted in the other), so wearing the headset without my glasses or even with the wonder-lenses that Oculus provide still proved a no go as everything was too blurry. This is why I've thought ahead and will give contacts a try.

It's not uncomfortable to wear a headset with glasses, it's just irritating when my lenses keep steaming up. Saying that I've also considered using motorcycle visor wipes on my specs for VR sessions, which are purposefully designed to prevent steaming in the materials. The point is, I'm prepared

Re: TGS 2016: Ogle Some Off-Screen PS4 Pro Images

AhabSpampurse

@Pinkman yeah, I was initially looking at these 4K Hisense sets as they were affordable and apparently good value for money. That was only £450. I noticed just before completing the purchase though that HDR was missing from it, so I dodged a bullet there!

I've been meaning to get a new TV for years now. Panasonic have got a swish 4K UHD set of 50 odd inches for about 600. I might treat myself to that and a Pro next bonus pay day in March 2017. I get that this product is quite niché, but I don't have many other hobbies so why shouldn't I indulge?

Re: TGS 2016: Revisit Resident Evil 7's Free PS4 Demo Now

AhabSpampurse

@kyleforrester87 yeah, agreed on all points. I'll give it a shake and see how it goes. The only thing I've been vaguely concerned about was an eyes-on impression a few months ago, and apparently the game was totally naseua inducing. I'm sure they'll iron that out, but it'd suck for something as trivial as that to ruin the VR experience.

Re: TGS 2016: Revisit Resident Evil 7's Free PS4 Demo Now

AhabSpampurse

@kyleforrester87 is it really shoehorning it though? I love me some classic RE, but the newly adopted first person perspective fits VR perfectly, and takes "brown trousers time" to an entirely new level. I get that it could probably have been marketed as a new IP, but I remember similar arguments when 4 was revealed which was a dramatic change as well. You never know, when we play it it could feel very like it's predecessors in terms of aesthetic. Either that or it'll be Codemned 3 and you can tell me to bugger off

Re: Reaction: Shrewd Sony Looks to Continue Market Domination with PS4 Pro

AhabSpampurse

@get2sammyb I know, right?! Amidst all the negativity, does any of it really matter? They've got a huge number of consoles out there already, and now they're poised to release an upper and a lower tier product to cater for more. It's not even like the Pro is THAT expensive that it'll become a niche product.

Yeah, it sucks that it's missing some aspects, but I still think Sony is going to walk away with this given the lead it already has. It's just reassuring that someone has similar sentiments given the overwhelming backlash!

Re: Review: Obliteracers (PS4)

Christ, the overwhelming majority of digital games recently have been pretty substandard. I like a AAA title as much as the next game buff, but I also appreciate the bite size nature and pick up and play nature of a lot of digi titles. Disappointed.

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Scared of Xbox's Scorpio?

AhabSpampurse

When they announced Scorpio at e3 (for 18 MONTHS in the bloody future!!), I personally interpreted it as desperate willy waving. I think ps4 is too much in the lead for MS, Scorpio or not, to catch up. With the PSVR and Neo (supposedly) also launching shortly and VR being a hot trend, I think that those two things alone will catapult them well into the lead by holiday 2017. By the time Scorpio comes out it'll all be moot.
