PlayStation VR has a gigantic launch lineup, and you're probably wondering which titles to buy right about now. While we still haven't sampled everything – the selection really is that big – we have played a pretty large selection, so we feel like we're pretty well placed to point you in the right direction. But which titles have caught our eye?

Well, we discuss our picks in much more detail in the video embedded above, but The Playroom VR is the first no-brainer. Despite being a freebie, this digital download packs a fair amount of content, and is much better than its non-existent price tag may indicate. It's a particularly good pick if you're planning to play with friends and family, as it has some strong asymmetrical multiplayer modes.

It's the shorter experiences that have really caught our eye, though. Batman: Arkham VR and Job Simulator may be polished tech demos, but they both prove the potential of Sony's hardware, and while they both come with steep price tags attached, you will get your money's worth showing them to friends and family once you're done with them yourself.

Other "smaller" experiences that come with our seal of approval include Rez: Infinite, Thumper, Headmaster, Tumble VR, and SuperHyperCube. While none of these games are going to have you queuing up in the cold for a midnight launch, they're actually among the best that Sony's headset has to offer right now; don't knock them because they're not AAA titles.

All in all, even with so few standouts, the PlayStation VR launch lineup succeeds with a breadth of different experiences, occupying various price points and genres

It's those big games that have proven most disappointing thus far. The London Heist is amazing, but it's just one small fifth of the overpriced PlayStation VR Worlds, while RIGS: Mechanized Combat League has left us feeling sick. DriveClub VR is a valiant effort, but it's a compromised version of a much better game, and the virtual reality doesn't make up for the shortcomings.

Which leaves Battlezone to take the crown of best retail game, though it's pushed pretty hard by the fairly priced rails-shooter, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. Neither of these are going to change the way that you think about games forever, but they're both well-executed in virtual reality, and a lot of fun to play.

All in all, even with so few standouts, the PlayStation VR launch lineup succeeds with a breadth of different experiences, occupying various price points and genres. There have been better launch line-ups, but Sony can be proud of what it's assembled here – and if you're an early adopter, you can rest easy knowing that you're going to be kept busy for a good few months yet.
