I always choose performance mode (or whatever is equivalent) because it doesn't matter how pretty something looks if the stutter of moving around in it gives me a freaking headache...
PSVR2 sold worse than New Coke, there's no way a new Astro Bot game would be VR only. They would improve their cash flow simply by not bothering to develop something like that.
I think the fact that we're even talking about a potential PS5 Pro just illustrates that Sony isn't really reading the room on this one. I mean there's still a LOT of games releasing on PS4 still so why do we need a mid-gen refresh exactly, when we haven't even fully left last gen behind? I bought the PS4 Pro at launch but I'm sitting this one out.
@NEStalgia For me, the guild questlines and magic in general were far superior in Oblivion, and I also preferred it's deeper RPG elements as opposed to Skyrim doing away with attributes, etc.
Also, the cities in Oblivion felt much more distinct from one another, for example I can still recall Anvil, Cheydinhal, Bruma etc. quite clearly but not so much with the cities in Skyrim. I preferred Cyrodiil as a setting as well, much more vibrant and colorful.
The long wait wouldn't be as frustrating if the games they had developed instead weren't so bad. At launch Fallout 76 was an abortion that almost nobody wanted or asked for, and Starfield is painfully average on it's best day. Personally for me the high point of the series was Oblivion.
Yeah, cause that's what the masses are clamoring for, right? More AAA, or dare I say, AAAA Live-Service games! Those protesters you thought were fighting for human rights? No, they just want more hot garbage that will have it's servers shut down within 14 months of launch. Excellent use of resources fellas. If that doesn't work out, I've got some swampland in Florida for sale and I'll give you a deal...
This kind of garbage does not belong anywhere near a single player game, and is evidence of the rampant greed that has played a major role in why a significant portion of the industry has lost their jobs since the start of 2024.
Back in early September, my sub for Premium ran out and I downgraded to Essential, and I have to say in the 6 months since not ONE game I would be interested in came to Extra or Premium that I hadn't played already. Literally, if only one had come through I would have gone back up to Extra, but nope...
@PerpetualBoredom Well, a physical game you either have to leave your home and procure, which takes time, or buy it online and wait for it to arrive, which again, takes time. Digital I have that s**t in what, 30 seconds? So go ahead and consider it a convenience fee and stop your whining lol
This reminds me of the one idiot that we all know, who never has money because instead of sticking with a consistent job they're constantly blowing their money on get rich quick schemes.
It's on a much grander scale, but otherwise basically the same thing.
@ILikeStake I agree the characters were very memorable, but the whole project reeked of "release this is 12 months I don't care how" with how many environments were reused and such. I remember looking through a strategy guide and seeing all the maps there emphasized how copy-paste it really was.
This mess isn't all on BioWare. We could have had a new Dragon Age in 2018 or so, but EA butted in and made BioWare scrap everything and start over with an emphasis on Live Service elements. Then, from what I've been told, the success of the single-player Fallen Order game made EA change their mind again, had BioWare scrap the Live Service crap, and they started over from scratch AGAIN, going back to the single-player focused project they had been working on originally.
If any of this info is false, please correct me. But from what I can tell EA is just as responsible for the mess that is Dragon Age currently as BioWare is.
Valhalla was just too much, of everything. I've never been more ready to move on from a game than I was when I finished Valhalla. I greatly preferred Odyssey and personally think that is the best AC game.
@BolkaRover I see your point about GP opposed to spending $60-70, but that would only apply to the very small percentage of people who own both consoles. For someone looking to buy their first console though, why on Earth would anyone choose an Xbox, sure you got GP but you're missing a TON of excellent Sony exclusives, when you could get a PS5 and have access to everything? It almost becomes like an idiot test at that point IMO.
I know I've said it before, but this is just the beginning. I don't care what MS says right now. They've seen the writing on the wall, and they're finally realizing that their master plan to buy up publishers and make their games Xbox exclusive is only going to result in those games selling 30% of what they should and it's going to cause them to hemorrhage money essentially. The only way forward, or eventually out, for MS at this point is to sell as many copies of their games on as many platforms as they can. Game Pass has peaked, and they've already lost the most important gen (when people began to seriously invest in digital ecosystems), so really what else can they do? So yeah, we will at least see a Starfield announcement for PS5, among others, by the end of the year, at minimum.
I don't buy for a minute that this will be it. Keeping Starfield and Indiana Jones on Xbox means leaving a TON of money on the table, and for what, to keep fighting a war they've already lost? Mark my words both games will be on PS5 by mid-2025.
Out of the 4 mentioned, I'm not likely to buy any of them, because I've already played 2 of them on GP, and the other 2 don't interest me.
I literally kept an Xbox 360 until last year because my account had NCAA Football 14 on it, and it's not BC. So suffice to say I'm looking forward to this one.
I remember thinking it sounded like it could be a cool idea, but the reviews upon release were in the 6-7 range (the ones I read anyway) and it was just too much of a gamble to buy at full price, and sadly I've never gotten around to trying it. I know they included a free trial at some point, but by then BG3 had me and I didn't really care anymore.
@Stickleman That's like saying Lambo owners want Hyundai to stop making cars...I can only speak for myself, but I couldn't care less if Xbox makes consoles or not.
If I opened a psychiatric practice specialising in people who are emboldened to act like complete trash online because they think it's anonymous, I would have clinics on all 7 continents within a month and the waiting list would be 2 years out. Trash will act like trash.
Admittedly, there's not many Xbox exclusive games I'm interested in, outside of Starfield and maybe Avowed. But I feel terrible for everyone who was on the fence and went Xbox based on statements made during the ABK acquisition, only to have the rug pulled out from under them now.
Joke is on me for buying a Series S to play Starfield in September, and then falling in love with BG3 and spending the next 4 months playing that and only that. Tried Starfield last week and it just feels weird playing on Xbox, like what I would imagine it would be like to drive in a country where it's the opposite lane. Hopefully it comes to PS5 and I'll just play it there, where it feels like home lol
@gymratAmarillo Yeah I don't care about cloud at all, so while I commend you for trying to pull off the illusion that you have the authority to speak for all people, you missed the mark pretty egregiously.
Anyone who didn't see this coming hasn't been paying attention. I think for some games this may have been the plan all along, as in have it release as a Xbox/PC exclusive, mop up all the sales dollars you can, and then release it on competitors months later to maximize revenue.
I don't remember if it was here, but I literally said this exact thing would happen back in September. It's America my dudes, money rules all else and there's no way M$ was going to leave all that sweet, sweet PlayStation money just chillin on the table like that.
So yeah, I'm not shocked lol. Microsoft might as well just make the Series their last consoles and just focus on getting Game Pass as many places as they can (meaning PS5 and Switch for starters.)
Imagine having such a meaningless and insignificant life that you have the time and energy to even get mad that a video game doesn't have enough updates, let alone to follow through and send threats to the developers over it...
One of the better months I can remember out of the last 8 or 9 probably. I've heard great things about Rollerdrome, and Steel Rising is probably worth a try.
Of course, I probably never will get to either of them, since I'm still working through stuff I actually paid for pre-COVID. But at least this month I don't feel insulted, so I'll take it.
I will forever cherish childhood memories of looking at my 6 NES cartridges and feeling like the richest kid in the world in 1988, and I recognize and respect that physical games mean a lot to some people. But I'm all digital these days baby, between PS4 and PS5 I probably own no joke 300 games and they're all digital, every single one.
@Northern_munkey he doesn't need to think about anything, what he stated was a simple opinion, devoid of anything remotely insulting or insinuating that he was happy people are losing their jobs. While we're telling people what they need to do, YOU need to stop being so sensitive and reading too much into benign statements.
HL was a solid 8/10, I finished the main story after about 30 hours or so. But I had no desire to finish anything else, and haven't picked it back up in nearly a year. Baldur's Gate 3 ended up hitting the way I expected HL to.
It's a solid 8/10, but it was a disappointment for me considering the expectations I had. There's not one thing I can point to exactly, it's more like I just had no motivation to continue playing it once I finished the main story. I usually try to Platium a game if I'm having a lot of fun with it, but with HL I haven't touched it once since I finished the story almost a year ago, and have had zero interest in going back to it. Baldur's Gate 3 ended up hitting me the way I thought HL was going to.
