Re: Poll: Did Sony's Latest State of Play Livestream Live Up to the Hype?

sword_9mm

I didn't see anything interesting on the game side.

One thing that did cement for me; no real reason to buy a PS or XBS anymore if you are into PCs and have the money for them. A nice PC (more expensive yes but MUCH better for games) is going to get you MS games day 1 and pretty much all Sony's first party stuff within a year or 2.

Too bad chip issues have murdered the PC market and drove costs sky high.

@KundaliniRising333

Yep and it has to run well.

If it's cut down gfx running sub 60 then count me out. Actually probably needs to run at 120 or faster but I'm not read up on the limitations/motion sickness issues these things can bring. I do understand that something like 8k an eye is where it's at due to screen door fx and all that.

Also the headsets need to be ultra light.

@uptownsoul

The min requirements are about on par with the new consoles.

These things are way behind and the chip shortage/covid did MS/Sony no favors.

I'd expect pro models out in a year or so if they want to at least attempt to keep up. Might get them into 2080 territory... Maybe. Also hitching to AMD was a bad idea but I guess Nvidia has a bad track record with supporting old stuff (Xbox). I guess they do OK with the Switch though.

I don't buy it. Both consoles are cheap slow AMD procs/gfx cards. There's no reason say Naughty Dog can't try to wring whatever out of the thing and then Sony port that to PC with barely any effort and it run much better with much higher gfx settings.

Maybe you are still thinking consoles are some esoteric chip/feature sets like that dumb PS3 but no; they're bog standard PCs now albeit slow ones. No reason Sony can't port whatever 6 months/1 year after the fact and it be fine.

Also MS owns Windows so they have a stake in the PC side hence the dual releases.

@uptownsoul

Well games have gotten more 'samey' in the last few years even without whatever you don't like about PC ports. The industry is consolidating hard and who knows what will come of it. Does Sony exit the console business if MS can buy up enough IP? Does the market have another crash/correction? Who knows.

PC ports are a good thing imo. Brings more money in and that's a group these low end machines aren't competing with really.

I think it's a good thing. I also like MS' day 1 release XB/PC but I understand Sony can't really do that; since MS owns Windows it's a win win for them.

Re: PS5 VRR Support Patched into Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

sword_9mm

@Toypop

The PS5 can force it like the XBSX but Sony's implementation is as lazy as they could do. Just the bog standard HDMI VRR. MS at least dropped the floor of their VRR to I believe 42 FPS or something like that. Sony just stuck to the 48fps floor so it isn't as good. Devs can patch in better as gearbox looks to have as I believe insomniac had theirs ready day 1 but if devs just rely on the PS5 OS it's not as good.

I'd have liked to see it dropped to like 31fps.

Re: PS5 VRR Support Patched into Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

@Relygon

Thanks for that info. These games quickly drop in price so instead of waiting for some full edition or season pass I'll just grab the base once it's dirt cheap.

It's sad too because I loved the B2 DLC stuff. I have B3 but haven't really played it as I just burned out after 1/2/pre-sequel.

Re: GTA 5 on PS5 Sells Even Better Than Expected

sword_9mm

@Uncharted2007

I only repurchased because I don't use my PC anymore and I got it when they were first offering it for 10$.

No way I'd have paid full price or anything.

I really want Tiny Tina but I'm waiting on the inevitable 5$ full game with all the DLC.

Re: Feature: What's Next for PS5, PS4?

sword_9mm

Nothing really as I have a ton of games unfinished and plenty to play.

The Playstation 'gamepass' was interesting till Jim Ryan again opened his mouth and made me hate Sony. Also their stupid 'keep all the new games off cause $$$$$$$$$$$' crap.

Honestly; IF I could sell my digital games with my PS5 I'd probably get rid of it and get an XBSX. Microsoft is just doing it right now and Sony is still stuck in a mountain of hubris I just hate to deal with.

Oh well; is what it is. Going to work on finishing Uncharted 3....

Re: PS5 Stock Issues Could Last Into 2024 as Chip Shortages Continue

sword_9mm

@truerbluer

Eh. I'm happy with 60fps on games. I'll take that over 30 any day.

Once we get into the 'unreal 5' stuff resolutions are going to crater as will framerates. Since neither the ps5 nor the xbsx are all that powerful especially now. Not as anemic as the 4/xb1 was (tragic those 2) but still slow enough. I do like the reduced load times.

Re: Just an FYI, PS5 VRR Doesn't Work on PS4 Games

sword_9mm

@nessisonett

Well it's Fromsoftware. Their 'greatest game ever in the world' Elden Ring doesn't run well either and still looks like a mess with poor lighting and some real jank.

One does not play a Fromsoftware game for the visuals; that's for sure.

Re: Video: How to Change PS5 Cover Plates

sword_9mm

I ended up getting the dark plates.

The PS5 looks like dogs!@#. Might be the ugliest console ever released. The black plates look nicer but it's still a hideous design.

XBSX for the win there. After that awful 360 design.

Re: PlayStation Boss Promises More Acquisitions Are Planned

sword_9mm

@4kgk2

I hate everything Ryan says. No one needs back compat? What a jerkoff Sony stooge.

BUT this is how it's going down we all lose sadly. Maybe S buys Square, N buys Capcom, MS has already got Actilizzard.. Who wants Ubi? I think EA is just too big BUT MS has deep pockets..

It's gross imo.
