Here's Your First Look at Netflix's Resident Evil

It’s certainly a show. Netflix live action sci-fi/fantasy stuff is usually rubbish though, so I guess it’s par for the course.

I think Resident Evil is a franchise that just works better as a game. With that said, I think this looks promising for what it is - another zombie show.

Its Netflix so unless its a mega hit then it will be cancelled after a week or two.

Looks worse than I imagined, and I thought it was going to be pretty bad.

So my understanding is they have rebuilt a city that was destroyed by the government with investment from a corporation who were the reason for it's demise and who ended up going out of business. Oh and they are now experimenting on bio-weapons in the labs of this newer city?

Looks abysmal. You could tell this was a script someone had and to add some interest they just asked Capcom if they could throw it in the RE world.

Looks pretty good to me. Looking forward to people losing their... minds over the existence of black people.

Looks great, more quality than typical horror, love the CG bear so cute. Can’t wait to see the what if scenario of if a major company owned a city…

I swear, judging by the comments here some people would rather face actual zombies in real life than a bit of diversity in a tv show.

Netflix is like Fox. Never try to watch anything that's more than 1 season; it'll just be canned.

Whats up with people here saying "woke" because it has female leads or colored lead people, damn you guys are sad and then others saying they could make better etc,you wouldnt even have the slighest idea how the turn on the camera would my guess.
Netflix has produced some fantastic shows..back when a netflix original was "rare" thing but they just dole out scrap after scrap now its disappointing 😞 😕 but this could be good how about watching an episode before judgement

I'm confused are people calling it woke because there is a black female lead or because it doesn't feature the traditional characters? I guess instead of being called the N word I'd prefer to be called woke I guess.

Being that it's Netflix it will get a season or 2 anyway.

Resident Evil has been given the World War Z treatment. In that, it’s Resident Evil in name only.

I don’t think this is a very good trailer though tbf. They show way too much. Something simpler and more focused would have worked better (and not upset RE fans so much).

As a series, this looks pretty good! As a resident evil series though… oh dear.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out, but it reminds me a lot of the Paul W Anderson films, so not optimistic

It’s definitely not what I expected, but I’ll still watch it. I actually enjoyed Welcome to Raccoon city.

Remove the logo's and you wont even know its even Resident Evil movie its not for me.

I'm not a huge RE fan so maybe my expectations are different, but I thought the trailer looked great. I love Lance Reddick - if you haven't seen The Wire you should totally check it out.

There's a part of me that wants a "faithful" adaptation of RE, but what does that even mean anymore? RE as a series is basically whatever Capcom wants it to be at one point or another. Sure some characters show up again but it often feels like an entirely different franchise.

Is it even worth reacting at this point? What's funny is that by calling it anything else than RE this show would not even have been picked up. They are doing the same thing in comics, nobody gives a ***** about a new characters but change a known one and you make the news. It's all about the clicks and twitter points. It's PR and if you don't like it then you're a bigot, no grey area. The don't give a ***** about the IP. We've seen it again and again. Curiosity brings viewership, sure, doesn't mean it's good.

People obsessed with "wokeness" lambasted The Witcher before it even came out. It became the biggest show in the world.

They did the same to Bridgerton. Both seasons became the biggest success in the history of Netflix and it was (and still is) by far the most popular show in the world.

But yeah, Netlfix will soon be nothing and woke = failed show. Because facts don't matter.

@Would_you_kindly It's fiction based off of a videogame about zombie mutant creatures. That folks get offended, or just shocked, that something as inoffensive as race gets changed is absolutely hilarious given the nature of the source material.

What the hell is with this community? So many backwards and honestly scary views of the world at large. I’ve seen a big shift on the internet in the last couple of years in this regard and as someone who isn’t white or straight, it genuinely concerns me. As if we’re treading backwards in society. I'll give it a go but I don't understand why its so difficult to just make a show around the events of the first couple of ganes and do it well. Though I am looking forward to Lance Reddick as Wesker

@Jimmer-jammer Spot on - you've nailed it. Resident Evil has already found its form - its medium - as a video game. Making movies/TV from games is like making music about architecture: possible, no doubt, but uninspiring, slightly bizarre and ultimately an empty exercise. Taking a thing that depends upon active user engagement as a video game, and rendering it into a thing of passivity for that same audience, is bound to disappoint

Big fan of Zombie related stuff like.." The walking dead...."train to busan"...."all of us here are dead" This might be good.

Yeah, paying my respects to the late David Ward. RIP. Those guys at Ocean definitely made me want to get into the industry. Great memories picking up the latest Ocean Software games on the Spectrum. The logo just hits me with pure joy and nostalgia every time I see it.

@KidBoruto yeah, I mean, I felt the same about Uncharted. It was not a proper Uncharted movie, but it was still fun to watch, so I'll definitely sample it and see if it's worth it.

@ScOott Nick Fury wasn't black either until he was and it didn't hurt Marvel movies in any way, I'd say. Not a big deal, unless the skin of their colour is significant part of who they are.

@naruball I also can't imagine Nick Fury played by anyone else now - casting for the character is so much more important than casting for the look. Henry Cavil in The Witcher it's another example. He's far too good looking if you go by the source material, but he nails the character and that makes it so much more compelling.

Lance Reddick does great complex yet slightly sinister characters, he could easily be the best thing in this show (which doesn't look like the height of intellectual programming), so he seems like a pretty good choice.

@naruball I think it depends on how invested u are in a character, maybe I'm strange but I can't even watch Toby maguires spiderman films because hes just not Peter Parker enough for me lol, think this is why I'm a gamer n not a film watcher.

Netflix does have a fame of canceling shows early. I don't think your reaction here is really justified for something that is common knowledge. Why do you care so much about netflix that you take this so personally? I'm passing in this looks like it's gonna try to be another Walking Dead just with the res name stuck on it no thanks. I'm mixed race and I'm all for black actors having more opportunity's for work. Especially since I'm an up coming actor my self but I don't agree with race swapping. It's lazy and unimaginative since they could of just made a new character who was black for the Resident Evil universe. Also Albert Wesker is dead they should of kept it in the current res time line. This will get cancelled after the first season.
