PS5's Fairgames Dodged State of Play, But Could It Be Rebranded at Summer Game Fest? 1

While I was hoping it wouldn’t happen, I semi-expected to see Fairgames rebranded Break In at the State of Play this week.

Obviously we already saw the trademarks pertaining to this, and social media accounts have been discovered as well.

But outside of a Marathon trailer, Sony didn’t show one live service game during its broadcast this week – perhaps predicting it’s just not the right venue anymore.

If it’s not going to cancel the game, though – and all of the aforementioned suggests that’s unlikely – it does need to re-reveal the title at some point. So could Summer Game Fest be the right venue?

Sony often will give Geoff Keighley something to announce; its support for his shows has oscillated between small things like DualSense controllers through to massive unveilings like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The crucial thing here is that I think SGF’s audience is a little different to the State of Play; expectations are generally lower and we will be seeing plenty of live service games throughout the presentation, with Fortnite et al already confirmed.

I think if the game is ready to be re-revealed – and it got a big closed beta test recently, so surely that’s something Haven’s going to want to open up more broadly soon? – this is probably the right place to do it.

What do you think? Will we finally see Fairgames again during Keighley’s event this week? Do you even care? Let us know below.
