Ubisoft has offered up the smallest of updates on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
In a social post, the publisher says it's still "deep in the game", being crafted "by a team that truly cares":
It's not much to go on, but it at least is showing signs of life in the project.
The remake was first announced all the way back in 2020, bringing back the beloved action adventure classic. However, its initial reveal was met with negative reactions, mostly owing to the underwhelming visual design.

Coming from a new studio and with an initial release date of January 2021, it was delayed to March of the same year before being delayed indefinitely.
Eventually, in May 2023, it was announced that development on the remake was effectively starting over, with Ubisoft Montreal taking over from Ubisoft Pune.
It's been very quiet since, with Ubisoft Toronto being drafted in to assist on the game. All we now know is that the game is targeting a launch in 2026.
Hopefully, Ubisoft is able to show more in the coming months, because fans are understandably growing weary after almost five years of waiting.
The series hasn't been standing still, however; last year saw the release of the brilliant Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and The Rogue Prince of Persia fully launches soon, with console versions still to come.

I was looking forward to this remake, and then I was looking forward to it, and then I was looking forward to it, and then I was looking forward to it again...I don't know how I am supposed to feel now.
Wake me up when we finally get Beyond Good and Evil 2 news...
Edit: maybe a hot take here, but the best PoP game was the cell shaded one from 2008.
I replayed this recently and the level design, the puzzles, the voice acting are still all great, stick a fresh coat of paint on that with a few QoL features and you are almost there.
The one thing that needs to be completely reworked is the combat, it's a complete chore and feels very dated. There isn't actually as much as you think, but it's awful, needs a complete rethink.
I really cant remember that much about this game - I know I played it, and at least reasonably enjoyed it, and that maybe it had an underused time function.
i don't understand , so the team working on it before them didn't care? thats what it kind of seems like it from the quote.
@Oram77 Thry should just combine the 2 games at this point.
Beyond the Good Prince of Persia: The Evil Sands of Time
Sounds like an anime.😂
So it's not being made by Ubisoft then?
This remake was not supposed to take that long.word up son
If the game is target for 2026 i assume they reveal at TGA
@rjejr I'd buy it.
Take your time and do it right. Love the original.
I enjoyed Sand of Time, but to be honest my favorite in the series was the 2008 Prince of Persia.
Ubisoft: After the underwhelming reaction to the nameless,cheap porting house we shovelled this off to last time,we learned our lesson & we chose someone well known in the retrogame porting scene....presenting Grove Street Games & their A.I. dev bot army to handle this with the TLC they're famed for!😋😂😱
Aaaahhahahhhaha pffffff haaahaaaha. Right.
Hope it comes out whilst there still is a persian gulf 😐
@Oram77 Who wouldn't?
As long as it isn't GaaS, then no one is. 😝
"Ok I believe you"
You'd want to hope they do, or else why would they even make it? You need enough people invested in the project. Whoever is working on it, how invested they are in the project. They should be.
Could say the same for films and those turn out....awkward.....
Some at Avalanche may not have liked working on Hogwarts Legacy but I mean, enough was put into it and they had a revived company, they needed to make something.
Tell us all they want. Prove it.
Sometimes like Tiny Tina or Watch Dogs Legion you could kind of tell but you don't know staff well enough to tell what little details they made for fun.
Not everything can be like oh yes Starfield's sandwiches..... Uh huh and then the game turns out how it does and works/doesn't for people.
Don't give me a Forza Motorsport 23 type advertising or we put effort in when none of the team gets cars or good progression/ideas and it's the most bland game I've ever seen.
