Re: Bungie to Layoff 220 Employees, Will Be Further Integrated into Sony

nolifebr

@WhiteRabbit - Yes, if they didn't reached some milestones ($), Sony would have the right to take control, what probably happened. It makes sense that Sony's first step was to reduce the company's workforce, Bungie had more employees than Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Sucker Punch combined.

And quite interesting that they are forming a new studio, Sony still has two more "secret" studios that have not been formally announced (one in San Diego and the other formed by Jason Blundell)

Re: Rumour: Sony's Still Working on PS3 Emulation for PS5

nolifebr

Talking/working with emulator devs won't change much. The team responsible for bringing these PS1/2/PSP games to PS4/PS5 is built by former PCSX2 folks.

I do believe that Sony is working on some type of PS3 emulation, but it will be exactly how it has worked with the classics so far: Just a few games per month with minimal/non-existent improvements.

Re: Tomb Raider Legend Unearths 480p, 30fps Performance on PS5, PS4

nolifebr

It's kinda funny since the studio doing these ports/emulators (Implicit Conversions) is formed by one of those folks who created the PCX2 emulator on PC, which could do way more than the official PS4/PS5 ones.

Sony must give these people a very low budget to work with, otherwise we would have much better results (or Sony itself would do everything in-house)

Re: PS5 Fans Beg Sony for a More Fulfilling Livestream in the Aftermath of Xbox Show

nolifebr

Sony is DOOMED (also coming to PS5).

Sony isn't even worried and everyone knows why. They will 1000% continue doing what they have been doing for the last 4 years and it will only change if Microsoft shows a real threat (selling more consoles)

Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just how they're operating. I don't think any online outcry will change that.

Also, it's going to be the best time of the year to see everyone complaining that Microsoft simply showed more games but purposely forgetting that they bought half the industry. Sony will only have big games to announce from time to time, and it's good for people to get used to it.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

nolifebr

@TrickyDicky99 - I'm pretty sure most of those games would end up being on PS3 if the hardware as similar enough like PS4 and PS5 are. Sony had games GOW Ascension, Puppeteer and Gran Turismo 6 which I'm sure would have been produced for the PS4 if it was something "easy" to do.

But I was also comparing about the quality of games. PS5 had Miles Morales, GT7, Demon's Souls, Rift Apart, Horizon FW, Ragnarok, etc. in the first years.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

nolifebr

By the way, this was the PS4 lineup of releases back in 2014:

  • Deadnation (Remaster)
  • Infamous Second Son/First Light
  • MLB
  • The Last of Us (Remaster)
  • Hohokum (indie-esque)
  • CounterSpy (indie-esque)
  • Driveclub
  • The Unfinished Swan (indie-esque)
  • LittleBigPlanet 3.

I don't specifically remember anyone complaining that the generation was trash, that Sony didn't pay attention to its audience and so on at the time.

Unless they push a Microsoft and acquire a publisher or two, Sony will ever have a year or two in every generation where they won't have so many releases... It happened with the PS3, with the PS4 and now it's happening with the PS5. The big difference is that they are no longer selling the dream of playing a game 3 or 4 years before it is released.

It is exactly because of this that they are relying on third party exclusives and I think they should do that even more from now on. They need to stop being so protective of their IP and start reaching out to other external studios to produce more games. No one gives a ***** that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (just to use an example) is not developed by a Nintendo studio.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

nolifebr

@RainbowGazelle - To be fair, Sony's own audience was responsible for the closure of these studios. If Gravity Rush, Concrete Genie, Everybody's Golf, WipeOut and so on had sold well, these types of games would still be being made. Everyone says they want more smaller games, more unique games, etc. but they complain when there's no new God Of War or Uncharted -esque games being announced.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

nolifebr

It's kind of funny to read all this after having spent the entire PS4 generation reading that Sony "should vary its portfolio", that "they should go back to making some multiplayer games like they did in the PS3 generation" and so on. Last two years, everyone was shouting that Sony needed to make more multiplayer to combat Microsoft's purchase of Activision at the time.

The problem isn't that Sony wants multiplayer games, the problem is that they don't have enough studios to make the number of single player games that everyone expects. If each studio is going to be able to make one or two games per generation from now on, they need to rush to have another 4 or 5 studios, but in the current scenario, we will probably see a Media Molecule or Firewalk being closed instead.

Re: PS5, PC Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if Concord Is Free-to-Play

nolifebr

@Deoxyr1bose - Lots of people who started on PS2/PS3 were crying for some multiplayer games from Sony since last gen. You could say that isn't something the PS4 audience wanted, because Sony really created an audience solely based on single players on that gen. Also, this is the first FPS from Sony in 11 years (which is sad).

Wasn't yesterday that Sony revealed that more than 50% of the revenue on PSN is from a handful of games (all of them live services, of course). Maybe those are the real PlayStation fans tho.

Re: Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement Backtracked on PC After Brutal Review Bombing Campaign

nolifebr

I'm really curious to see how they'll handle Ghost Of Tsushima on PC now. I'm pretty sure Sony will make it VERY obvious that the game requires a PSN account for the multiplayer mode (I'm talking about non-skippable splash screens, posts on Social Media and so on) and they probably won't sell the game in some countries because of that.

Will that be enough to please the "public" on PC or will the game get review bombed anyway?

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

nolifebr

@FullMetalWesker - In terms of development, the PSN requirement was probably for cross-play. There's a reason on why every company that offers cross-play these days requires an third party account.

But Sony's real reason behind this must be to have more monthly active users with PSN accounts (I don't know exactly why this is an important number, but shareholders seem to care a lot about it - Microsoft, Netflix, etc. always report the number of monthly users)

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

nolifebr

@KundaliniRising333 - The cross-play system on Helldivers is terrible. You need to use random codes generated by the game to invite someone from another platform, the PSN thing would probably solve that by allowing people add others by using nicknames, just as every other game that has cross-play these days.

Anyway, Sony's relationship with Arrowhead probably died after this whole ***** show. Arrowhead released the game knowing that the PSN requirement would exist and is now acting like it didn't' know anything. Arrowhead community managers acting like any other fanboy on Discord will not help their talks with Sony going forward.

Re: Fallout 4 PS5 Next-Gen Update Now Unlocked for PS Plus Owners

nolifebr

Why exactly is this on Sony and not Bethesda? There have been publishers that offered upgrades to the most basic Plus plans and others didn't, why should Sony have any decision on this?

The Fallout 4 Upgrade is exactly the same on both platforms: Those who pay for the Game Catalog (Game Pass/Plus Extra) on their platform and those who purchased the game can receive the upgrade. That's it.

Re: New PlayStation CEO Hiroki Totoki Starts Temporary Role Today

nolifebr

What we will probably see with him in command since he's addicted to company growth:

  • Sony releasing more multi-platform games (Sony will definitely try to release some of their single player games Day 1 on PC, and probably release some live service games on Xbox and Nintendo as well)
  • More live service games (Sony needs to have an recurring revenue throughout the year)
  • Games being produced faster (probably resulting in smaller 8~12h games)

Re: Sony Studio Firesprite Accused of Alleged Toxic Culture in Exposé

nolifebr

What exactly has Hermen Hulst been doing (besides licking Kojima's balls, of course)? Wouldn't it be his job to supervise all PlayStation Studio projects, giving deadlines, goals and objectives to which studio from time to time? Or does he really let each studio run wild without any sort of control while he travels and surfs around?

Re: Reaction: The Problem with PlayStation Right Now

nolifebr

Making smaller/shorter games may not be as good a solution as everyone says. How many people bought their PlayStations to play Gravity Rush or Concrete Genie? I know there will be people arguing that these are smaller games to fill the calendar, but isn't that exactly what Sony is doing with indie/third party games? What's the point of Sony having four Gravity Rushes a year if they simply don't sell to the point where they make sense to exist? Lost Legacy and Miles Morales worked because they're part of huge IPs and I doubt these games would take less than 4 years to make nowadays. Hellblade 2, which will be a "smaller" 8~12 hour game, is taking more than 5 years to be made.

I'm very curious to see how Sony will react to this "bad phase". There is no shortage of options:

  • Increase the price of games to 80, 90 or even 100 dollars.
  • Focus even more on live service and microtransactions.
  • Invest in cheaper markets (Finland, Sweden, Canada, etc.) and reduce their attention to studios like Naughty Dog, Insomniac and Santa Monica, which must be extremely expensive to maintain because they are located in California.
  • Pull a Nintendo and stop focusing on cutting-edge graphics and technologies.
  • Focus on PC with every game being released there on Day 1.
  • Give up on the console market and simply become a publisher.

Re: Xbox Is Bringing Four Exclusives to PS5, But It Won't Say Which

nolifebr

Microsoft confirming everything at once was nothing more than a wet dream for many people.

Microsoft will NEVER confirm that it will release everything for all platforms, even if that is what will happen. No one would be so stupid to announce this with a clear face with the possibility of the company's shares falling dramatically as a result.

Re: Sony Slashes PS5 Forecast to 21 Million for Fiscal Year

nolifebr

In case anyone hasn't read between the lines: Addressing high costs = Major layoffs coming.

Also, they pretty much confirming that we won't have any "major" title within the next 14 months is kinda sad to read. I just hope they finally announce the games that everyone wants to know about (Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, etc.) later this year.

Re: Rumour: Xbox Console Exclusive Starfield Is Setting a Course for PS5

nolifebr

Well, as I was chatting with some friends, the Xbox brand as a console will never be as strong as PlayStation or Nintendo in some parts of the world (damn, PlayStation is actually synonymous of video games in some European countries). If Microsoft's goal is to truly take Tencent's place as the largest company in terms of revenue in the industry, the only way for them to achieve this will be to release their games on more platforms.

I don't know if it's something for people who play on PlayStation (I'm included in this) to celebrate as if it were the end of the competition. If the strategy works for MS, I am absolutely sure that Sony will follow as they claim that their strategy is lagging behind compared to MS's.

I like exclusive content and would like to see even more, even on platforms I don't play/have no interest in. This industry would be aweful if all platforms had the same content.
