Developer Supermassive Games has just released a big new update for its latest Dark Pictures horror adventure, Directive 8020.

The free update adds online multiplayer to the sci-fi narrative game, letting up to five players (a copy of the game each is required) enjoy the experience together without the need to be in the same room.

There are a couple of different ways to play the game together online.

First is Custom Mode, in which all players select a character at the start, and control swaps between players depending on which character is the focus.

Round Robin Mode ditches the character selection and simply rotates control between players at set intervals.

Playing online, you can all vote for which choice to make at certain points, either reaching a consensus or voting your own way and seeing what wins out.

The update also adds new customisation DLC, meaning you can kit the characters out in some new outfits. Plus, the update implements 13 new collectable premonitions to find that may help you get through the story a little more easily.

We weren't super hot on Directive 8020 at launch, but perhaps playing it in online multiplayer would prove a more enjoyable way to experience the story.
