SEGA has just announced a metric tonne of stuff for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which looks as though it's going to have a truly bumper second year.

There's a lot to get through, so let's get into the thick of it.

Year Two begins on 3rd November, and even on day one, there's plenty of stuff to enjoy. So, let's start with all the year two content planned for the game. Some of this we already knew about, but most of it is new.

Year Two - Free Content

Alongside the previously announced Bayonetta, two more freebie SEGA-adjacent characters will be added to the game.

  • McLaren Racing - SEGA and McLaren are buddies, in case you didn't know, and so Sonic will be dressed in the team's racing gear. A machine based on its F1 car is also being added.
  • Aigis - From Persona 3 Reload, Aigis is set to join the CrossWorlds Roster. She will also come with her own vehicle, the Palladion Dressy.

As well as characters, CrossWorlds will gain a new mode for free. It's called Duel Match — a 1v1 race in which each competitor can see the items currently held by their opponent, the gadgets they're using, and how far away they are.

This feels like something geared more towards the competitive scene, but the offline version against CPU opponents has a reward if you beat them all, so it's worth playing.

Year Two will also introduce 15 new gadgets to toy with, as well as a new Grand Master Plate with a seventh gadget slot.

Year Two - Premium/Season Pass Content

SEGA has also outlined the slate of premium DLC packs coming to CrossWorlds throughout year two.

  • Godzilla - Previously announced, this pack introduces a series of Godzilla/kaiju-inspired vehicles, as well as Godzilla Escape, a course that brings the monster to Sonic Adventure 2's beloved City Escape.
  • Evangelion - Also previously announced, the Evangelion pack includes the Tokyo III course, two new characters in Asuka and Rei, and a trio of EVA-inspired vehicles.
  • Hello Kitty - The world of Sanrio joins CrossWorlds, with Hello Kitty and Kuromi joining as racers, matching cars, and a new Virtual Sanrio Puroland course.
  • SEGALAND - While most SEGA-themed stuff in CrossWorlds is free, SEGALAND bucks that trend. This pack's course is stuffed with references to the publisher's history of arcade and console games, plus it adds three classic arcade machines as driveable vehicles.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake - No further details were revealed about this, but yes, CrossWorlds is bringing the world of FF7 to the game. According to the PS Store, the pack will contain a course, two playable racers, and one new car.
  • Reload Revival Royal - A pack themed around Personas 3, 4, and 5, this will introduce another new course, two characters, and two cars.

Year Two - Bonus Content

Those who buy Season Pass 2 will be treated to some bonuses.

  • SEGA Consoles Pack - A trio of vehicles based on beloved SEGA hardware. It adds cars based on the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast.
  • SEGA Controller Decals Pack - This is a set of cosmetics you can apply to your machines, all based on Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast controllers.
  • Super Shadow and Super Dark Flare - If you own both Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2, you'll unlock a new character — Super Shadow — and his vehicle named Super Dark Flare.

On top of all this, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has received a permanent price reduction.

On PS Store, the base game has moved from $69.99/£64.99 to $39.99/£34.99.

The original Digital Deluxe edition goes from $89.99/£79.99 to $59.99/£49.99.

Season Pass 2 will set you back $29.99/£24.99.

Finally, a new version of the game is coming to physical retail, also on 3rd November: the Year One Edition, which includes the base game alongside all the DLC and updates introduced in the game's first Season Pass.
