Re: Round Up: Lies of P: Overture Previews Reveal Difficulty Options, Boss Rush Mode, and More

Steeleye50

I watched some gameplay footage and this looks abolutely amazing. I had dabbled in souls games for years and never really got them. Liked the Khazan demo so gave Lies of P a try based on recommendations. I got absolutely hooked, and now these games are all I want to play. I am just really crossing my fingers that the teaser at the end of the game happens for a sequel, I would actually buy a new console if needed just for that game. Can't wait for this to drop, looks absolutely insane.

Re: Intergalactic Recruits New The Last of Us Season 2 Actor for PS5 Game

Steeleye50

@Cornpop76 I don't know how early they cast for this stuff, plus how far in development they are. The trailer was just a standard announcement trailer, all cut scene with no gameplay. I thought it seemed fine, aside from all the product placement. I've enjoyed all of Druckmann's games so far though so I'll most likely be checking it out, especially with Dalton in it. Take care.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last Of Us (HBO) Season 2 Episode 6 - Robbing the Story of Its Genius

Steeleye50

It's always easy to watch something and not like it because it doesn't portray the same events as the source material, but for me although I think the new season is decent so far, I am in puzzlement over certain decisions that the game did much better in a narrative sense. Ellie is almost a completely different character whose motivations are all over the place. Abby is pretty much non-existent in the show, and if we are supposed to either hate her or sympathize with her nothing has been shown to influence that in any way other than killing off Joel. Maybe they are planning that for the next season. I just don't see what the big picture is so far, as narratively it's pretty uncohesive.

Re: These 17+ New PS5, PS4 Games Are Coming Out This Week (19th-25th May)

Steeleye50

@Northern_munkey I really didn't like it at first but I kept pushing. Eventually the combat clicked for me (had to overcome muscle memory) and I enjoyed it more. But I absolutely hate the weapons breaking so easily, plus losing them when you die. Other than that it's decent, but don't think it's worth $60. Maybe around half that.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 581

Steeleye50

The new Doom, which is just blowing me away. I only played a little of Doom 2016 before this and thought it was ok (I'm sure it was a different story when it came out). Aside from that, plowing through Demon's Souls for the first time which I am loving but getting my )#$ handed to me. Am going to try and continue the Midnight Walk as well, but Doom is taking priority right now.

Re: PS5 Action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan Didn't Meet Sales Expectations, But Nexon's Oddly Unbothered

Steeleye50

@Faraz27 yeah I think it is harder than both of those. The only saving grace though is even when you are repeatedly dying to a boss, unlike those games you still get lacrima (Khazan's version of souls) so you can level up while learning their patterns, which will eventually make the fights a little easier. But the bosses in this are taking me a lot longer to beat than in other souls games.

Re: Play One of This Month's Most Promising PS5 Games Right Now

Steeleye50

Played the demo, it's a very niche title that has a lot of rough edges. My main issue is I absolutely hate weapon breaking in video games and the weapons wear down and break way too quickly. On top of that, if you die you lose your weapon and have to go back and retrieve it, which would not be a big deal, except that if there are enemies nearby that are not affected by the weapon you are carrying (some enemies are immune to certain weapon types), then you can't hurt them. Then there is the controls. I like the combat quite a bit, as the buttons are mapped out to different spots on the enemies body. Triangle for head, circle for right side, etc. But then my muscle memory is fighting using R2 to block, and R1 to backstep or dodge. It took a while before it clicked. Story is very basic, and the sidekick is annoying. I also encountered several glitches. Still, it's a demo. I am intrigued enough to play more due to the combat, but I wouldn't go out of my way for this one.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Can't Stop the Ubisoft Rot of Star Wars Outlaws and XDefiant

Steeleye50

Ubisoft used to be my favorite game developer. But there came a point where they just didn't care anymore, and made games based around their formula rather than a good story or innovative gameplay. So many of their games in recent years were just the same derivative mechanics and pointless filler fetch quests over and over. Playing Outlaws felt like playing Black Flag mixed with the Tom Clancy games. AC games have become so repetitive. I was not planning on buying Shadows, but after so much positive feedback I gave in. Played it for about 10 hours, and just got bored. It has a fresh coat of paint, but ultimately it's just more of the same. Except that the story and voice acting is absolutely atrocious. They have gotten so lazy with their game design, and I would say a 17% decrease in sales proves it and is well deserved, except that of course it will be the hard working developers who pay, not the management that encourages it.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing DOOM: The Dark Ages?

Steeleye50

I played a little of Doom 2016 a few months back. Thought is was ok, probably much better at launch but games have evolved quite a bit since. Put about 2 hours into this one and I absolutely love it. And I am not a big FPS fan, but the game is really fun.

Re: Reaction: Game Key PS5 Discs Are a Disgrace, and Sony Should Put a Stop to Them

Steeleye50

I've been buying more digital games lately because of this (cancelled my physical Doom pre-order as well). I know discs will be a thing of the past in the next 5-10 years. I'm just at a point where I'm done with it all. I've been a huge video game fanatic since the 1970s. Owned most of the consoles. Have thousands of games to play. My backlog could probably last a few lifetimes. This is where I jump off the console ship. It's been fun, but I don't need to support this greed anymore from bloated $90 titles, live service games that are carbon copies of each other with minimal effort, filler gameplay, microtransactions, and digital games on disc.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 580

Steeleye50

At the end of Clair Obscur but I don't want it to end so I'm exploring the map. Also started the Midnight Walk last night, incredible vibes. I love claymation, and this one is stunning. Another claymation game that came out last year was Harold Halibut which was a delight, might go play that again as well.

Re: 25+ PS5, PS4 Games You Should Grab in PS Store's Weekend Sale

Steeleye50

I highly, highly recommend Banishers Ghosts of New Eden. The exploration and story telling is absolutely incredible and very moving. Combat is decent, but nothing to write home about. Make sure you also do all of the haunting investigations, they are well worth your time. Some great games here, would also strongly recommend Lies of P as well.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer 2 Is Finally Here, PS5 Graphics Are Jaw-Dropping

Steeleye50

As a Miami native who lived there for 30 years, it is absolutely incredible how this completely fictional city absolutely NAILS the city it's based on. There are so many small details that only someone who has lived there will instantly recognize that are insanely well represented. Can't wait to play this and destroy familiar neighborhoods, just like I used to do with Vice City when I worked in Little Havana and would start insane wars in the fictional version of it to great amusement.

Re: Watch as Astro Bot Speedrun Tears Up PS5's Super Polished Platformer

Steeleye50

@AdamNovice I think the bulk of any changes are done. There are new speed runs, a few tougher skill levels, and the holiday level which I think is the best in the game. I have not seen any real kind of issues with any glitches or gameplay. But yeah, it's totally become my new gaming comfort food, after What Remains of Edith Finch.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for May 2025?

Steeleye50

I've enjoyed Balatro but it hasn't really gelled with me too much, which is strange, because I was a poker dealer for 5 years. It's fun but I'm not quite sure what the ultimate objective and how to get there is. I keep playing waiting for everything to click but it hasn't yet. Decent game selection this month, might give Ark a try but more Warhammer is always welcome.

Re: Poll: Are You Disappointed by the GTA 6 Delay?

Steeleye50

Being a Miami native I am excited for it. The trailer nailed the spirit of the city so well I could have sworn I saw some of my friends in it. The delay is what it is, just sucks because my health is poor and never know if I'm going to be around next year. It's all right though, I have so much of a backlog I will be busy either way. Better to have a delay that is polished than a broken game at release.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for May and June 2025

Steeleye50

@GirlVersusGame That's crazy. I believe it. I've been working on emulating PS2 on an arcade machine, and going through the titles I can't believe how many TV shows were made into games. CSI, 24, Buffy, etc. Never heard of them during that time but it's wild how many were made. I bet you've seen a lot of crazy stuff.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for May and June 2025

Steeleye50

@GirlVersusGame OMG that Shield game was something else. I remember sneaking around a house to plant evidence on some guy while he was on the toilet saying "F***ing burritos" over and over to crapping sounds. My friends and I would say that for years later everytime we went to a Mexican place.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Borderlands 4?

Steeleye50

I really enjoy these games. Looks like some solid additions to this, but a little weary just because of the fatigue of so many entries. Will pick it up eventually, just maybe not at launch. Too much of a backlog and I really need to lay off new games for a while. Wish they would do a sequel to Tiny Tina, I know it was in the cards but have't heard anything for a while.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for May and June 2025

Steeleye50

I have the most insane backlog I've ever had in over 35 years of gaming (thanks a lot PS sales!). Going to lay low for a while on most of these, except maybe Doom. I've only played a little of the 2016 one, but this one looks absolutely insane and badass. It's a great time to be a gamer, but my wallet is crying.

Re: PS5 RPG Expedition 33 Has Some of the Highest User Ratings Ever

Steeleye50

@Puketapu the story is what got me. Not necessarily the premise, but the way it unfolds is really well done. I didn't really know anything about it and that turned out to be a blessing. I've tried maybe 4 turned based games over the years (I tried FF on PS1 and hated it), but this one has QTEs and parrying/blocking in real time during the turns so it's not bad.

Re: Ghost of Yotei's PS5 Price Provokes Fresh Switch 2 Fury

Steeleye50

This is good to hear, but I"m sure when the PS6 comes out, games will be priced at $80-$90, and they will still be full of microtransactions and paid DLC. Can you imagine a Ubisoft game a year from now? $90 standard, $130 deluxe, and $180 premium. It would be one thing if Nintendo was struggling, but they had a net profit of 3.25 billion last year. I've been a console gamer since the Intellivision, but this is where I jump off the boat. I've got enough of a backlog to last years. Not supporting this greed anymore.
