Finally beat Viper in Khazam the First Bezerker. Ashamed to say how long it took, but it's done. On to the next boss. Also playing Mandragora, that was a suprise that came out of nowhere. Very enjoyable so far, and hilarious. Such as beating one of the bosses who asks you for a last request, then tells you to "F your face with a rusty fork."
@somnambulance Sorry to hear about the strep. You probably don't have to worry about this, but this is just an FYI just in case. If you have any dark, red skin anywhere, get yourself to a hospital ASAP. I had a severe case of strep back in 2017. On the 3rd day, my right leg from the knee down turned a dark red. I had just lost my health insurance, so I avoided going to the doctor. After 2 more days it became completely unbearable, and my wife forced me to go to a hospital. I really didn't want to go, but I did. I flatlined 52 minutes later. Turns out, I had a rare disease called toxic shock syndrome which came from the strep. I spent the next 3 weeks in the hospital. There was sepsis, and they were not sure if I would have to be put on dialysis for my kidneys. Fortunately they recovered. A week after I got home from the hospital, I got a staph infection on my leg which put me out of commission for the next 6 months. I hope you get better soon, just wanted to give you a heads up in case you see something like that. Happy gaming!
I've been playing so much Indiana Jones this week I decided to slow it down and tried out the demo for Mandragora. It's a cross between the last Prince of Persia with soulslike elements. I don't particularly care for Metroidvania games but this one has me hooked. Such a great time to be a gamer.
Extraction shooters are a dime a dozen these days, so if you want to be successful you really need to stand out. But charging for this, while so many others are free to play, plus looking EXACTLY the same as most of its contemporaries, this is pretty much a guaranteed failure. The only question now is how fast it gets taken down as compared to Concord.
@Leetware1 this is interesting because Warner Brothers just had an issue where several years of DVD that they issued are now unplayable. I think they are offering replacements, but knowing WB I would not be surprised if this was used in a case to establish a new precedent similar to Ubisoft's argument.
What Remains of Edith Finch is the best $5 you will ever spend. It's my gaming comfort food, I've beat it so many times and still notice new details on every playthrough.
@Buckster Thanks, I know. I think I'm going to sit this one out though. It's just a combination of things - the price of the games, paying $90 for a physical copy that most times will be a download, not using Hall Effect for their joycons (drifting was a HUGE problem for me with the Switch), online service subscription to play certain games, etc. It's just a bit too much, and now being in America with tariffs, it's probably going to be a lot worse than all that.
@ATaco The problem is, just like with the $60 price point of the last generation (which didn't take long to go to $70), if the games were priced accordingly it wouldn't be so bad, but they won't be. I can understand a game like GTA 6 being priced that high. But when you get games like, let's say Ubisoft or WB games, charging the same price for lazy game design, broken games at launch, plus added fees for DLC plus microtransactions, it's just getting all too ridiculous. I'm just getting really tired of all the nickel and diming, and if it's this bad now, towards the end of the new console generation it will be a lot worse.
I've owned most major consoles since the Intellivision came out (I'm old!). The $450 price tag for Switch 2 is a little excessive, but not too bad. But when you add in all the peripherals and the average cost of a game, I think this is where I jump off the console bandwagon. The greed is just becoming far too much. Besides, I have enough games and older systems to keep me very busy till the end of my days. I can't support this anymore.
@luke88 I think the Game Pass is definitely the better deal, and the Xbox is technically superior to PS5, but Sony exclusive games for me have always been superior. In the last 2 Xbox generations, there were maybe 4 games I was jealous of. Now they are coming to PS5 - Indy, Forza 5, Sea of Thieves (already there), and Flight Simulator. That's it.
@EfYI Robocop was way better than it had any right to be. I loved Crimes and Punishment, but could not get into any of the other Sherlock games. There were just too many confusing mechanics that did not gel for me.
I've been avoiding the souls games for years but they finally clicked with me. Beat Lies of P last night, incredible game. Now on to Khazan the First Bezerker. Already about 8 hours in but will spend the next few weeks tackling that bad boy. Another banger so far.
This looked interesting after I first saw it, but after watching some gameplay I'm going to skip it. Being a God of War clone (watch the sidekick in action) and the fact that I hate, absolutely hate weapon breaking like this in games, this is a non starter.
I've had most consoles in my life starting with Intellivision (I'm old!). I think this is where I jump off the boat, $80-$90 is completely ridiculous for a single game, especially when you know they are still going to microtransaction the hell out of everything and still charge extra for DLC. It's out of control. Thank God I have plenty of older systems and games to play, way more than enough to last me for the rest of my days.
Going to take a wait and see approach. Most games shown were already on other systems, the ones that weren't were underwhelming except Duskbloods, but not really into PVP for those types of games. My biggest issue will be if the controllers drift again. My Switch would have gotten a lot more playtime if it was not for that. I ended up buying 3 separate joycons - they ALL had the issue. Sent them in to be fixed, and within 1 month they had it again. Not biting this time.
@Dissident Yeah I'm one of those dummies that fell sucker to the PS sales the last few months. I bought more than I can ever finish. The worst part is, I don't need any of them. I spent the last 6 years building a mini arcade in my office - 6 Arcade 1-up machines that I modded to play console and arcade games (and even digital pinball). There are over 20,000 games between them all. It's fun to just try new stuff and cycle through them. I have an addiction and need a Video Game Addict Anonymous group!
@Dissident Yep. Only interested in Indy and Forza. Compared to the last 3 months of Split Fiction, KCD 2, Khazan, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dynasty Warriors, AC Shadows, MLB the show, Atomfall, Sniper Elite, etc. I just don't have anywhere near the time to play them all.
My kids are just as addicted to games as I am (how can they not be?), but neither of them has any interest in mobile games. They play PS5 mainly, with the Switch being used occasionally. What's really sad, is I built them a dream arcade that I always wanted as a kid, with literally ever game imaginable from console to arcade games. There is a sit-down driving cab, a digital pinball machine (with a Switch attached), a cab with a PS4, and a light gun. There are 6 cabs in all (took 6 years to build), and yet they NEVER play it. I took them to a local arcade yesterday and I watched them gleefully play all the games that we have at home and never touch. Kids are weird.
@Northern_munkey well stated, except for one thing. I've tried a few Souls games on and off over the years, and they never clicked with me. I don't mind the difficulty, but being 50, working around 55 hours a week and having a family they are a difficult time investment. However, after playing the demo for this it has finally clicked and now those games are all I want to play. I bought this but haven't dipped too far in (maybe 5 hours) as I'm on the last chapter for Lies of P, but will be getting into this after. With my time with Khazan so far I think an 8 or 9 is completely accurate.
@thechetearly God, Odyssey was hilarious, especially that one mission where "You killed my mather and F'ed my pather?" I had to pause and hit the floor in a laughing attack at that one!
@Dodoo I thought the reputation system was a brilliant idea, but the implementation was really poor. If you are on the outs with a syndicate, you can easily fix it in a mission or 2. No real stakes there.
This is a shame. I haven't finished the new game yet but I am enjoying it so far. Strange to think of a social impact award, but I think it applies in this case. I'm an old (50), straight white man (who was actually raised in a white supremist household). To say I am not the target audience for these games is an understatement. But I played the demo for the first LIS, and it introduced me to a whole slew of issues that young people today faced that I never had to. Sure, there were bullies in my day, but you settled your issues with a fight and that's typically where it ended. We didn't have to deal with online harrassment, or a world stacked against them, mentally and financially. I feel for kids coming up today, and the LIS games gave me an understanding of that that I would not have gotten otherwise. The only other game I've seen like this was the Town of Light, which completely changed my thinking about mental illness. It's a shame the developers were laid off, because we need more games like this.
What Remains of Edith Finch is my gaming comfort food. I've played through it so mahy times yet still uncover minute details each playthrough. Truly incredible. Also love Rapture (mainly for the soundtrack), and Thank Goodness You're Here is pretty hilarious.
@Ninjadeath2023 Yea, but at least it was somewhat playable. I never played it, and haven't heard much about it, but from my understanding people were upset over the game being advertised as something it was not. The Day Before had completely fake trailers, showing "gameplay" that did not exist at all.
@Mikey856 Yes, definitely avoid it. The gameplay itself is by the numbers, completely uninspired, and after about 3 hours playing it I didn't even so much as chuckle once. It was terrible.
@Diowine I totally agree with you, but sadly this is the internet culture these days. You could have someone like Mother Theresa alive today, trying to help and feed people, and she would be demonized on the internet every single day. Our culture is so stupid.
Finished it last weekend with my daughter. It's her favorite game now, and one of mine. Total 10. It's a roller coast ride from start to finish, and somehow even though you feel it peaks in almost every new section, it somehow keeps getting better and throwing completely creative and unique gameplay elements after you. The Day Before was the biggest scam in gaming history. The trailers were completely faked, the environments were just a colection of assets from other games and websites, and the gameplay was broken and pretty much non existent. When your game is delisted and refunds given out to every player in less than 2 weeks, what other word would be used to describe it?
@Cornpop76 I don't think the idea is to appeal to us older gamers with remakes, although we typically eat them up (I'm 50 btw), but to introduce classic games to a modern audience with updated graphics and gameplay. If the right care is taken, it can find a new audience and be successful again because it has already been tried and proven. Look at how many new gamers bought the Silent Hill 2 remake. Look at every Nintendo launch. There is a reason there is always a new Zelda and Mario game every time.

@SoulChimera that was one of the only games I was envious of Xbox users for. Though I have one of the Arcade 1up machines, a sit down Outrun driving one, and I just put Forza 5 on there and it really is absolutely fantastic. Will be getting on PS5 as well.
