Re: Jun 2025 USA Sales: PS4's Record Launch Month Stomped by Switch 2

Steeleye50

@mrbone Nintendo initially reported on their website when they announced the Switch 2 that games would be $80 digitally, and $90 physically. We haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I know with Xbox I've always thought the consoles were the superior one, but there's only been a small handful of exclusives I've wanted to play of theirs over the years. Fortunately, they are now available on PS5. I hope that pendulum swings the other way though!

Here's An Updated PS5 Launch Title List
The PlayStation 5 launched with several exclusive titles, including Demon's Souls, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Destruction AllStars, and Astro's Playroom. These games were either exclusive to the PS5 or offered enhanced versions for the console.
Let's also not forget Astro's Playroom was FREE.

@Haruki_NLI that's a good point and I do agree with you. Just for me, this is where I jump off the bandwagon. I've been a console gamer since the Intellivision. I've owned every Nintendo system except the Wii U. I just can't abide by this greed anymore. I know Playstation and Xbox will follow suit. It would be one thing if we got complete editions of games, but you know there are still going to be broken, buggy messes at launch with a greater price point and still paid DLC. Can you imagine how expensive the next generation's batch of Ubisoft games will be? Do you think they are going to improve? Of course they will eventually fall back to their model of releasing broken, buggy messes that are carbon copies of old games, and they will charge $80 and up for it.

@Haruki_NLI Nintendo confirms US$80 to US$90 price hike for Nintendo Switch 2 games
The US$90 price tag on physical copies of Mario Kart World has proven controversial.
Nintendo has officially unveiled its next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console, replete with all-new mic and voice chat features, mouse-like capabilities for the Joy-Cons, and more. Unfortunately, the reveal has not gone down without any controversy. While the console’s US$449.99 price tag has already stirred up online debates over its value, the pricing of its games might be a bigger problem.
According to Insider Gaming, games for the Nintendo Switch 2 will cost up to US$80 for digital and US$90 for physical.

Crazy Switch 2 sold that well considering it has, what? 2 exclusives? Then topped off with the absolute greed of charging $80 for digital and $90 for physical, nothing done to address joystick drift, and overcharging for peripherals, it's amazing I guess. I think another factor though was the limited supply of PS5's at launch. For the first 3 months, I checked online and couldn't find one. Then read an article that stated 3 AM was the best time to check at Target. My dog woke me up to be let out the next night at that time, I checked while waiting, and sure enough it was there. When I picked up it later that day, the cashier told me I had the golden Wonka ticket.

Re: 'Increasingly Selective Consumers' to Blame for Underperformance of Blades of Fire

Steeleye50

I played this. It was mediocre at best. The fighting was ok, although every time I picked it up i had to get used to the control scheme because I like to alternate games that I play and the control scheme for this is very unique (each face button is a body part). The forging was ok at first but got old really quick. But my main issue was the level desgn. It was absolutely atrocious. I can't tell you how much time I spent wandering around in circles looking for a passage or door. The map didn't help as it's just a large view of an area. There was nothing organic to it. It just was more trouble than it was worth.

Re: Ubisoft Reckons Microtransactions Make Games 'More Fun'

Steeleye50

Could there be a games company more detached from reality than Ubisoft?
"At Ubisoft, the golden rule when developing premium games is to allow players to enjoy the game in full without having to spend more."
Every game they make has 3-4 price points. Every game they make has the most pointless filler fetch quests. Every game they make is a carbon copy of a previous game, with little to no innovation or effort to make something unique. Go away Ubisoft. You're drunk.

Re: The Last of Us TV Show Team Split on One More Season or Two

Steeleye50

I'm checked out. I rarely watch TV, and the 2nd season was a disappointment. I don't mind changes to the game (the first season I thought there were things the show did better), but the change to characters was baffling. So much was shoehorned in without any weight behind it. So they can make 1 or 2, I am not going to watch it.

Re: PS5 Pro Support Live for This Month's Best PS Plus Game

Steeleye50

This was one of my games of the year last year. The combat is decent, nothing to write home about, but the story is very moving and exploration is incredible. Make sure you do all the haunting cases, as it is really easy to miss them and they are the best thing about the game. Time for me to jump in and play evil this time.

Re: Astro Bot Has Added Its Most Wanted Cameo in Huge PS5 Update

Steeleye50

@Avishayafriat I think this is probably it. After you beat the first 4 new levels, it opens up another similiar to the Master Challenge that is really tough. On beating it, all the bots float around you and it fireworks blare with a "Thank you for Playing" message. Can't complain though, as they added tons of new content for free. Game has been an absolute joy.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Ghost of Yotei?

Steeleye50

I had already pre-ordered it as I loved Ghost of Tsushima. I was expecting this to be good, but based on this demonstation it looks like it wildly exceeds my expectations. This looks absolutely incredible.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 588

Steeleye50

@Rich33 Thanks. I am finding it much more difficult. One issue though is I beat the game twice, then bought the DLC. Sadly it didn't work. After some online research, it turns out that the copy I bought off Amazon was actually from the UK (I'm in America) so it was not compatible with the DLC which was on the American PS store. So I bought the game again digitally on the last PS sale. I then had to start everything from scratch since my save file was also incompatible, and play through the game again until I got to chapter 9. It's been really frustrating. So I'm not leveled up anywhere near what i was previously, along with having to re-earn weapons and items. I've been stuck on the first boss the last day or so and think I am just going to tamper down the difficulty, because it's just getting really frustrating at this point. Take care!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 588

Steeleye50

The First Bezerker Khazan. The addition of normal mode has made this game playable for me, finally. I had made about 25% progress on hard difficulty, but after getting slammed continually for about 2 weeks I put it aside a few months back. It's tolerable now and I am loving it. Also finally working through Lies of P Overture and getting reamed in that as well. But after beating the main game on hard mode I'm going to keep plugging away. Is it just me or is Overture way harder? I think I need a breather and need to play some Astrobot or something. These brutal games are killing me, but I can't stop playing them.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Series: How to Get Started and All Games Ranked

Steeleye50

I have such good memories of these. When the PS1 came out, I would occassionally go to friend's houses that had one and nothing really impressed me. Until a friend put MGS1 in my hands. I went on my lunch break the next day, bought a PS1 with MGS1 and Silent Hill (just because it looked good), then went home (lived close to work), hooked it up, then called work and told them my car broke down. I then had one of the best gaming days of my life. Except my work hated me then. A few years later I was like 40 minutes late to work because of that damn hour long cutscene at the end of MGS2 - you couldn't pause it. I'm in the minority here, but I much prefer the Solid Snake entries over the Big Boss ones. MGS4 is my second favorite.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Death Stranding 2?

Steeleye50

It's probably because I'm a former mailman, but I absolutely hated the first DS game. Delivering packages in the game was even more boring than it was in real life. I used to be a huge Kojima fan, but not anymore. He's just gotten too pretentious and self obsessed. Absolutely zero interest in this one, but I hope everyone else enjoys it.

Re: Feature: Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025 So Far

Steeleye50

Great list, I've actually played most of these. But just started the Alters, I'm only about 5 hours in but my God, is it good. I bought it just for the premise alone, which is really interesting and thought inducing. Gameplay is fun and I feel mechanics are introduced slow enough to not get out of control too quickly. I'm really enjoying it.

Re: Feature: Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025 So Far

Steeleye50

@Jrs1 I get that. Just I've tried turn based games in the past and never get very far. I really could not put Clair Obscur down until I beat it. To be fair though, I did play it on easy mode. Even then, there were still some challenging fights towards the end. Take care!

Re: Feature: Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025 So Far

Steeleye50

@Jrs1 I hate turn based games too but actually enjoyed Clair Obscur. You also have to parry and there are quick time events during the fights so that makes it completely tolerable. I actually ended up really enjoying the combat, and the story is incredible.

Re: PS5 Sales Sensation Black Myth: Wukong Gets Its First PS Store Discount

Steeleye50

@WafflingHearts Yea back when I first tried them I would run into a wall with a hard boss or section, and then put it aside. It's hard to find time the older you get. But then I remember the kind of games I beat when I was a kid. Ghosts n Goblins, Battletoads, Mike Tyson's Punch-out, Castelvania, etc. That's why I gave Wukong a try. Now I've played so many of them. I've only beat a few, but I'm getting there!
