Re: Square Enix Vows to Deny Toxic Fans Its Wonderful Games, Services

Steeleye50

This may be pretty extreme to some people, but I totally agree with it. Fans of media in general anymore have become incredibly toxic and threatening. Take Laura Bailey for example. After voicing Abby in the Last of Us 2, people were sending her messages threatening to kill her newborn baby. Actors and developers have been geting death threats over their work, get yelled at and cursed out on the streets, and are subject to constant harrassment. I don't understand it. It's just fiction. I really don't know why some people get so crazy over it, but I'm at the point where I've deleted all my social media and have just confined myself to gaming sites now because I can't stand the ignorance, toxicity, and the general hatred that seems to permeate our culture, especially online.

I put a good 10 hours into the first game and just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the former mailman in me, but I thought it was just incredibly boring and bizarre. I've been a Kojima fan for decades, but I think he really needs a producer or co-writer to rein in some of his wacky ideas.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Delayed Again, Now Out 20th March

Steeleye50

@Shinnok789 thanks that is a great point. I did consider that but I hate streaming. I have fast internet at my house (I work from home), but for some reason game streaming is hit and miss for me. That's ok. I bought several games on the PS sale in December so I have plenty to keep me busy for months. Besides, I've played almost all the AC games and I'm pretty burned out on them, considering they just use the same formula over and over as well as the same pointless fetch quests. That's why I didn't care much for Outlaws either. Take care!

I also saw today they re-instituted their pricing structure that Outlaws originally had. Ultimate edition is $129.00 USD to get the full game. I'm not supporting this greed anymore, I don't care how good the game is. Would rather play Ghosts of Tsushima or Rise of the Ronin instead anyway. At least they did their homework on Japanese history.

Re: Square Enix Wonders Why Life is Strange: Double Exposure Didn't Work Out

Steeleye50

I started it after buying it at launch but paused it. I will get back to it soon. The game had likeable characters, was fine technically, but my main gripe was seeing Max starting to put her life back together only to have it torn apart again. She's one of my favorite characters, and to see her go through so much sadness AGAIN was just a little much. I'll finish it at some point, but with a lot going on in my own life when things bring you down you need things to uplift you, not to wallow is misery and self despair. I bought a lot of the games on the PS sale in December so I've been swapping those around. It's sad to see the game fail, because a lot of love did go into it, but it's just not what I need right now.

Re: Helldivers 2's Creative Director's Latest Comments Have Landed Him in Hot Water

Most of the complaints I am hearing today about character's skin colors, sexuality, or gender are exactly the same arguments I heard as a kid in the 1970s about people of color being in TV shows and movies. Sure, there are some companies making a concentrated effort to have diverse characters in them. We need that, especially after so many decades of media and art that was dominated by white culture. Sometimes they spend more time with that then character development (looking at you Disney). That's to be expected. But with equality sometimes the pendulum is going to swing the other way, as it should. Didn't think I'd see this much whining and outrage over a slight shift, but I guess all that racism and misogyny is hard to let go.

Re: Stellar Blade Dev Says It Hopes Everyone Is 'Living in Love' After Naughty Dog Artist's Interpretation of Eve Is Unfairly Criticised

Steeleye50

@torquex True, there are legitimate concerns people can have. Such as AC Shadows, I understand the Japanese complaints about the carelessness with the way their history and culture was presented. It's one thing to call it fiction but the game was not marketed that way. But to have people complaining nonstop because of someone's gender, skin color, or sexuality is exhausting. I'm so tired of hearing the word "woke" and these ridiculous complaints.

Re: PS Portal Owners Spend More Time Playing PS5, Says Sony

Steeleye50

@Mu5hr00m_K1ngd0m thanks for the advice. I actually do have a mesh system with the PS5 directly connected to it via ethernet cable. I work from home and the internet is fine for working. I even have a PS4 connected to an arcade machine in my office that mostly works fine if I do PS5 remote play on it. Just for some reason the portal just doesn't work well in the house. It's really strange. Thanks though!

Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?

Steeleye50

I went way overboard with the PS sale this month (and will pay dearly for it the next 2 months but oh well). Going to be doing a 4th playthrough of Astrobot, Nier Automata (never played), Quiet Place, Bang on Balls (really fun so far), Legacy of Kain, the Thing, and of course always Sea of Thieves. Going to be busy for months!

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS1 Memories?

Steeleye50

I was always a Nintendo junkie and didn't have much interest when the PS1 came out. Saw it at a friend's a few months later who showed me Medievel. Meh. Didn't care for it. Few months later was at another friend's house who showed me Metal Gear Solid. I was hooked in the first 20 minutes. During my lunch break at work the next day, I bought a PS1 with MGS and Silent Hill cause it looked cool. Went home and hooked it up (lived very close to work). Called them and told them I had a flat tire and had one of the best gaming days of my life.

Re: Ubisoft Comments on Buyout Reports, Says That It 'Regularly Reviews Options'

This is what happens when you spend years ignoring your fanbase and continually release broken, buggy messes. Last week, a major patch went out for Outlaws that was supposed to fix the major issues. I played for about 40 minutes on Saturday, and in that short time saw all this:
A stormtrooper stuck in a speeder bike on top of a tree.
Was walking in front of crates stacked about 10 feet high and got knocked over by another stormtrooper on a speeder bike that flew over the crates and landed on my head.
Used my grapple hook to climb a cliff, Kay just floated arms down motionless up the cliff with the rope attached to her head. Then fell to the ground when she reached the top.
Found a cave entrance in an Imperial area, where I stayed for over 10 minutes with a pile of dead stormtrooopers I killed a few feet away. Every 25 seconds or so, a stormtrooper would say "There's a dead trooper here! Search the area!" over and over. They never found me even though I was 5 feet away hiding behind a crate, until I got so bored sitting there I went out and blasted them all.
