Re: New AAA PS4 Game Releases Are Quickly Starting to Slow Down

STLamy

I don’t do backlogs! I play and complete a game before moving on and buying others, so my game situation is quite dire 😂 I’ve luckily already gone through the phase of playing 15 mins of a game before switching, bored, not knowing what to play, so I’ve decided to start reading the Witcher Books! Can’t get enough of the world, so it’s time I tackle them.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Delayed Again Due to Coronavirus Epidemic

STLamy

@RenanKJ Should have went gold months ago? It’s very common for video games to go gold a month prior to release, sometimes even 3 weeks. Judging by the wording and screenshots on this, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were going to get that Gold announcement within the next couple of weeks, along with a new trailer.

Re: Soapbox: How PS5's Deep Dive Should Have Been Handled

STLamy

This could well be a fatal unforced error for Sony in the run up to launch. The narrative is already set online as the majority don’t have the knowledge of the technical side to understand how their SSD is a game changer. The fact that Sony’s first major showing to the public is a spec list that shows the Xbox is more powerful is enough to stick for this whole marketing push. Seems to me they’ll be on the back foot for the foreseeable future trying to market it in the current Twitter/Forum world we’re in, where teraflops are all that matters.

It’s also a worry how Sony are going to prove that 3rd party devs will actually dedicate resources to the PS5s SSD, and not have it be something we see taken advantage of by 1st party only. Both SSDs in the consoles are fast, and that’s all that’s going to matter to the majority of devs.

All I can say is good luck to them, this’ll be a narrative hard to shake.

Re: After Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red Is Probably Making a New Witcher Game

STLamy

I’d imagine they'd also want to take advantage of the Witcher Netflix series’ popularity. It’s a no brainer. I’m really interested to see how popular cyberpunk really is at release, if it’s as big as I think it will be, they may be forced into developing 2 games simultaneously, which in fact, is why they were expanding so much in the first place.

Re: Paper Beast Brings Its Own Ecosystem to PSVR on 24th March

STLamy

@Nyne11Tyme no nothing I’m afraid! I’m from the UK, and spoke to various retailers, most said they are unsure when they’ll get them in, the rare couple keep pushing back their estimated dates. The most recent date for stock is the end of May....
I’m certainly not a fan of spending double the standard cost just to have a pair, due to the current stock situation! I’ll have to be patient.... it’s just frustrating.

Re: Rumour: Expensive PS5 Parts Could Force Sony to Set Price Point Above $450

STLamy

This article mentions PSN as a way to negate additional costs, as well as Sony selling at a loss, but you aren’t taking into account all the hidden costs with shipping a product, such as retailer margins, shipping etc. The components of the PS4 at release ranged in the $380~ range, later selling for $399 at a LOSS. If we look at this figure, you could take from it that it’d cost similar to the total component cost, when sold at a loss (£449), but that then doesn’t take into account the high demand for certain components, which is something the PS4 didn’t have to deal with!

Re: PS4 Exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn Will Come to PC in 2020, Says Report

STLamy

I’m definitely on the side of believing exclusives are important. Microsoft are quite different from the rest with this, due to the fact that they run the largest PC ecosystem!
The reason I believe they’re important (exclusives) is because of the effect it would have on me personally. I have a good gaming pc, if Sony brings their exclusives over to PC without large delay between them next gen, I absolutely wouldn’t buy PS5 and instead re-invest that money into my PC, where I can play PC, Xbox and now PlayStation games on 1 platform. It’s a no brainer. I also realise there is a lot of gamers that don’t want to spend as much as the cost of a PC on hardware. Either way I would gladly take this, as everything coming to 1 platform suits me, but I also don’t believe it’s the best for Sony’s hardware sales.

Re: Soapbox: The Most Frustrating Thing About Enthusiast Gamers

STLamy

I’m looking forward to the completely different direction of Death Stranding. I’m willing to give games a go, but I’m sure I’ll like this due to the slower pace of it.

I’m also someone that loved RDR2, due to the slower pace of it but also read on the same site that Sammy mentioned about the dreadful controls.

Different strokes and all that...

Re: Red Dead Online's Long Awaited Character Roles Arrive Next Week on PS4 Alongside a Big Update

STLamy

@ApostateMage how much success do you have playing solo? Is it actually any fun? I’ve been really interested in this MP for a while, just because I loved the base game. Now with these roles being added it makes me want to give it a go. The trouble is, I never touch MP games! So I don’t want to spend on PS Plus unless I know I’ll enjoy it, and I always fear the “yeah it’s good, but rubbish solo” outcome

Re: PlayStation Could Have Fresh Competition in Stadia, Google's New Game Streaming Platform

STLamy

Looks like a sleek and fast user experience so far, but I’d much rather see genuine footage instead of PR talk and controlled demos.

Would also be interested in what is actually required for their 4K 60 streaming. Seems like something you’d only be able to pull off in city areas, rather than rural (like down here..... in Cornwall). 25mb was for their 1080/60 streaming in the Project Cloud test, and although i doubt it scales linearly, the most obvious assumption is to put it at 4X those requirements (for 4K vs 1080p).

I ain’t getting anything close to 100mb for a while to say the least 😂

And that’s without mentioning input lag.

Re: The Last of Us: Part II Release Date Speculation Intensifies

STLamy

I think it’s probably 2020, but what would make it more interesting is when the PS5 will release that year.

If TLOU 2 is an early next year release, I don’t think it would carry the same weight being patched for the PS5 compared to ‘launching’ with the PS5 (ala Breath of the Wild on the Switch).

I think if Sony decides to launch them alongside each other in Q2 2020, with strong 3rd party support, it would be the start a fresh console hopes for.

It wouldn’t be the first time a console manufacturer has held software exclusives for a console release, and it won’t be the last. Sony is keeping very tight lipped with its upcoming schedule as well....
