Cyberpunk 2077 is due to release this September, but once it's out, what's next for CD Projekt Red? Well, we already know that the developer has plans for updates and DLC, and that it's going to add a multiplayer component to the open world role-playing game -- but what about its next full project?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it looks like the company's heading back to the world of The Witcher. During a recent company meeting, as reported by Polish website Stooq, president Adam Kiciński was asked about life after Cyberpunk 2077. His response was that the developer has already started work on an unannounced single-player title, and that CD Projekt Red has two "worlds". "Within these worlds we want to create games, therefore all the games planned so far are either Witcher or Cyberpunk," said Kiciński.
Interestingly, it sounds like this next Witcher game won't be tackled by CD Projekt Red's main workforce. Instead, the company's smaller studio will apparently take the reigns. Of course, the developer has expanded dramatically over the last few years -- there's no doubt that this next title will still have some serious manpower behind it.
So what do we actually know about this next Witcher game? Well, CD Projekt Red has previously mentioned that it probably won't have you play as Geralt, and that it likely won't be called The Witcher 4. In other words, it's shaping up to be a fresh start in The Witcher's existing world.
In any case, we look forward to hearing more.

Really looking forward to seeing where they take The Witcher next.
I could definitely imagine a game where you create your own witcher since CDPR is already implementing character creation in Cyberpunk 2077.
Can’t wait for another installment in my favorite game (can’t say series because I’ve only played III) of all time. It doesn’t have to be Geralt but I won’t be mad if it is.
Hope it’s first person
If they set it a century or two after the original and included a make-your-own-character feature I can see it doing well. The Witcher would do well as an MMORPG, but I just hope they don’t make Geralt the hero again.
More Witcher would be wonderful. I loved playing Witcher 3.
It could be a Cyberpunk follow-up next with a new Witcher game to follow after. Not saying it will be but they said they have two worlds and you could get a spin-off Cyberpunk game before the next Witcher - like we had Gwent for example after the Witcher 3 and its DLC.
Geralts Story was finished - although they could do a prequel of course. They may want to return to the world but having the right story and direction for that world may still be in the discussion stage whilst they may have a clearer idea of where they could take Cyberpunk next so that could have an impact on what we see next. For all we know, they may have some of 2077 that could be the basis for a follow-up making it easier too to follow up on than start a new Witcher from scratch so to speak...
Anyway, I am looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 first and would be happy with either franchise coming next....
@crimsontadpoles Talk about tossing a coin to your Witcher.
Id love nothing more than that. As great as CyberPunk 2077 looks, I've always preferred fantastical settings over cyberpunk, steampunk, or just a heavy focus on technology in general.
Still ff7, Bloodborne, and Xenoblade are some of my favorite games ever, so im not against it. But I really prefer fantasy lol :^)
@kyleforrester87 you magnificent b*stard 😂😂😂
+1 from me to your trollery 🥳
I feel the story of Geralt is done, hope Ciri is the protagonist of the game.
Let it rest and moved on. That series is about as bad as Uncharted. As much as I've loved those series it's time to move on.
What’s more likely a Ciri led game or a create-your-one Witcher game
If they did continue with Geralt, then I’d want it to be a prequel taking place during the events of the books. I’d also be completely fine with a fresh face, or make-your-own playable character type thing happen as well.
Young Vesemir would be cool, we’ve got that anime coming that’s following him too. It would be fun to see more Witchers too, there’s only a handful in the rest of the series.
@nessisonett. Stay safe out there playa.nba season suspended.rudy gobert nba player for the jazz got the virus.and also legendary actor tom hanks.word ☝ up son
@Ken_Kaniff about as bad as Uncharted? So one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time? That's pretty good
@playstation1995 You too, it’s getting scary out there. Word up son
Whoa guys, get this...Cyberpunk IS Witcher. Just way in the future. And no beasts. And it has guns. And oh yeah no magic either. But it's totally the Witcher in the future! Except third person. And no witchers. Thought down father
Hope we can create our own Witcher
would be nice yes, to think that Bethesda have been lazy enough to not release an Elder Scrolls game on PS4 is absolutely baffling, no ESO does not count.
@kyleforrester87 Greta asks "How dare you!?"
I’d imagine they'd also want to take advantage of the Witcher Netflix series’ popularity. It’s a no brainer. I’m really interested to see how popular cyberpunk really is at release, if it’s as big as I think it will be, they may be forced into developing 2 games simultaneously, which in fact, is why they were expanding so much in the first place.
I hope we get to play as arguably one of the best characters from The Witcher 3. Trollololo the troll, professional boat guard and painter.
Ciri series, your own customisation Witcher story or Vesemir Prologue please CDPR!
I really hope they'll improve the gameplay a bit. World-building and script were fantastic, but I can't get into the clunky gameplay anymore.
@ShaiHulud Switch movement to alternative mode and slide the turn speed to the lowest setting. Much better.
@ApostateMage Thanks for the tip!
@ShogunRok I'm one of the few who really didn't like the Witcher series.
@East76landS Me also, I played it for a bit, I dont get the appeal at all. Oh well.
