Is The Last of Us: Part II actually releasing this year? A lot of people are starting to think so, and although we're not quite convinced just yet, it does seem as though the project has hit an important milestone. Over on Twitter, director and writer Neil Druckmann has stated that "the most ambitious cinematic shoot we’ve ever done" is all wrapped up. Included is a photograph of lead actors Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie) on set in full motion capture gear.
"Tears were shed", eh? It sounds like Naughty Dog's got another emotional roller coaster on its hands.
Do you think The Last of Us: Part II really could launch in 2019? Place your bets in the comments section below.

I'm guessing March 2020.
If not this year most likely next year
Now where is my man that said its coming in the 2020, 2019 its coming baby!
Fun fact, once the mocap was finished in Uncharted 4 it came out 5 months later. September - November release imo.
My expertise tells me that a large number of people will die in this game.
@viciousarcanum lol you are crazy.. Sony can't release two exclusive games in same month is this and MLB 20 : the show.. it is possible to come out in Fall 2019 : October to November
@TheLastOfUs2
March 2014: MLB and Infamous release
March 2015: MLB and Bloodborne release
March 2017: MLB and Horizon release
If it's Nov 2019 or March 2020, I really don't care. The most important thing is to deliver the one best games ever, again.
I would actually consider holding off buying this in 2019 if ps5 was going to release early 2020. I’d imagine they would release an upgraded version for a new console release.
At least this confirms that Joel is back.
@Boxmonkey Most people thinking late 2020, even early 2021 for the Ps5 release.
I think there’s a good chance it’ll hit this year. Either way, if their pushed and it hits early next year it’s insane knowing we’ll be playing another ND game in the next 12 months!
A big difference between finishing the mo-capping and a 'game' releasing. All this tells is us that the 'acting' and script are done - that could still be a long way off from converting the acting into video game characters embedded in the world, building the 'linking' gameplay from 'cut-scene' to 'cut-scene' - as well as all the environments etc...
I 'hope' this comes out either at the launch or soon after the PS5 launches. Obviously for those on PS4 still, I would hope it gets released for them too. With BC etc, it shouldn't matter if games get released on both systems as the new console will have a LOT of games ready to play anyway - not necessarily need some 'launch' exclusive to convince people to give up on the Old and jump on board the new...
@ApostateMage But will it only be in flashbacks?! I remember hearing this games jumps about time wise. I can see us playing a while into this game as Ellie without being told explicitly where Joel is but slowly having stuff revealed through flashbacks.
I can see this releasing at the end of this year, but for that to be true we will have to get the release date announced very soon. I think March/April next year is a pretty safe bet.
@Kidfried huh.. Horizon zero dawn released in February, not March
@Boxmonkey no way, PS5 won't be released in March 2020
@Medic_alert looked at Uncharted 4 and The last of us part one finished mocap : 6 or 7 months before both released
I wonder what the story in this game is going to be about. We still know so little.
@get2sammyb Do you think they will keep it a secret up until launch?
@Medic_alert It's a good point, but I reckon the rumoured Uncharted follow-up could be their first-rate PS5 launch title. TLoU is well known, yes, but Uncharted and its characters are pretty much PS's mascots by now.
@TheLastOfUs2 Bloodborne and Infamous :SS both came out in March.
@viciousarcanum
It wont be march Sony are too Savy to not see what happened last year with RDR and not jump on that bandwagon bear in mind this is by a long way the most anticipated game of this generation and possibly all time.
I think October this year which will make its a very busy few months for me
